Over the last few days, we have shared some of the invaluable video footage we got with Jim, while spending a week visiting with him in Maine during his summer market season. We offer these special highlights as our gift to the growing community who are working together to create an even better grass roots food movement.
Jim has been a pivotal role model of ours since 2011, not long after we first began to grow food. We can truly say that he was a big catalyst for change in our lives & we owe the foundation of our success to Jim's influence. Now it is your turn to spend a week with Jim, at your own pleasure.

In early August 2017, We took a trip up to Maine to visit with our favorite farmer friend, Jim Kovelski! We got some epic footage that we are so happy to share!
Each year in late spring, Jim travels up to a little town just outside Eastport, Maine, to grow the most delicious, clean & vibrant food you can find. Then in early fall, he packs up & heads down to Florida to repeat the same plan.
Jim does not follow rules, He creates his own evolving adaptations; a mixture of pure refined classic agriculture (the scythe), techniques passed along by elder growers, elements from books that have proven their worth & the intrensic download from living with the land & slowing down enough to read it's own suggestions.
He is able to make an honest living doing this very thing he loves so much. His days bring him joy, purpose, connection & peace. The insights & techniques he has collected are invaluable. He plants, harvests, preps & markets in a way that naturally flows & the whole natural farming process is just waiting to be shared with you.
We have been to visit Jim before, but had never been able to come during the best & most productive time of the year for Jim. Everything is growing, blooming, ripening & the scenery around his camp is pure magic.

I think what really impresses me about Jim is not only his vast knowledge but also how easily he adapts to whatever the conditions seem to be.He seems to flow along with the natural instead of fighting it. And what also very impressive is that hes always learning and seems to be a very humble man. Thanks for sharing this American treasure with us all Pete. Looking forward to the additional info from Jim that you are putting together.

I love his "I'll take what's given" philosophy. Too many people impose their will on nature, which works for a while, but then it doesn't; until the soil fails. This dude is a treasure!

Gareth Evans hello! Elliot Coleman is a famous farmer out of Maine. He was very well known for taking the summers off and farming the winters in a very temperate climate. He wrote the book “the new organic grower”. I believe he’s still around and the kids are still running the farm. I visited it a few years back myself.

I raise perennial Russian Comfrey to feed my ducks and chickens. Humans are Obligate Carnivores so I only grow plants to feed my birds. When I go to the Farmer's Market it is with 30 dozen eggs. 15 dozen each chickens and ducks. If it isn't healthy for humans I don't sell it. I sell live meat birds here at my farm. After the sale I can butcher them for a customer but cannot butcher them before the sale. I do grow mushrooms but they are mostly volunteers. The mycelium grows throughout my duck pasture and fruits whenever it rains.
