The Polish helped out the Hungarians against the Habsburgs, when Hungary was part of the Austrian Empire. During the revolutionary war of 1848 Józef Zachariasz Bem, or Bem Apó in Hungarian, a Polish general and many Polish soldiers helped out the Hungarian rebels against the Habsburgs. It was so effective, that Hungary nearly won the war, until, you guessed it, the Russians joined the party.

The Russians helping Austriaks to suppress the uprising was huge mistake
@-Eisenfaust-
@-Eisenfaust- 2 жыл бұрын
@@fedorkuz637 Why? It was also in Russia's interest. All the great powers of the time, despite their rivalry, promised to protect each other against revolutions because it was in everyone's interest. All were multi-ethnic states (UK and France through their colonies) and successful revolutions inspire others to do the same. But if you mean it because of the Crimean War from later, I'll tell you something. As Russia's closest ally, Austria was put under pressure from all sides. Austria has posted troops on the border with Russia to pacify Britain and France. However, they have remained neutral and have not attacked Russia. Also, there is a big difference between helping a country beat down an revolution and intervening in a war that already involves Russia, Britain, France and the Ottoman Empire, which could have provoked a world war. Russia later saw it as a betrayal, but also as a distraction from its own defeat.

Our love for Hungary is best shown during the worst times. Hungary's pro-German government during WWII outright refused to fight Poland and sent aid to the Polish resistance. Poland's Communist government unofficially condemned the crushing of the 1956 revolution and send aid to Hungary.
@GreatPolishWingedHussars
@GreatPolishWingedHussars 2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, the Hungarians decided too late to help the Poles. In fact, the Poles could have won with the help of the Hungarians and Romanians. Because the Germans were not nearly as invincible as is constantly claimed. Franz Halder Chief of the German General Staff of the Army documents this fact in his war diary. "The Wehrmacht had been on the verge of a military logistical catastrophe in the Polish campaign. The happy ending after a few weeks saved her from having to stop the fight because of insufficient ammunition." So with Hungarian and Romanian support, a victory for Poland in 1939 was possible even without the support of the French and British! What few know is that Romania was an ally of Poland in 1939. Romania has also offered Poland support in the war against Germany. But Poland refused, the Poles confident of victory due to the clear superiority of the Polish, French and British forces. Poland could not have guessed that the Polish allies would betray Poland so shamefully. The Hungarian and Romanian armies were not that strong, but they would have been enough to defeat the Germans together with Poland. Because the German army was not nearly as superior to the Polish army as is always claimed. Because without ammunition, the Germans would certainly not have been able to win. If Hungarians and Romanians would have attacked from the south, it would be a two-front war and the Germans were not prepared for a two-front war. A victory for the Poles with the Hungarians and Romanians would therefore be very likely!

The Hungarian Uprising of 1956 actually started with rallies of solidarity for the Insurgents in Poland, because before the Hungarian uprising there were massive protests in Poland against the imposed communist dictatorship. In order to put down the uprising, the Soviet henchmen also used tanks and killed 100 people and wounded 600. Many were arrested. The memory of the events was preserved by Polish opposition figures. After the Gdańsk Agreement in 1980, the Solidarność movement decided, as one of its first actions, to erect a monument commemorating the 1956 events. That this was possible made clear how much the communists in Poland were already in the devensieve. 8 years later in 1988 they had to agree to negotiations that meant the end of their rule in Poland. The success of the Poles in the fight against the Soviet henchmen was then the example for the other nations oppressed by the communists in Europe that resistance can be successful so that in the end everyone followed the Polish example and overthrew the communist regimes. One should not forget that without the success of the Poles there would have been no the fall of the Berlin Wall at the end of 1989. But unfortunately most associate with the victory over communism the fall of the Berlin Wall at the end of 1989 and not the previous victory of the Poles over the communists. An interesting aspect is also that in At the time of the Polish king Stefan Batory/Báthory István in the 16th century there was a fashion for Hungarian clothing in Poland. An interesting aspect is also that the Polish language also contains hungarisms! Because during the reign of Stefan Batory/Báthory István, the Polish language incorporated numerous hungarisms which continue to be in active use. Most of them have military connotations, such as: szereg (row), orszak (procession), giermek (squire), dobosz (drummer), hajduk (highwayman), hejnał (bugle call), and puchar (goblet). Another aspect is that even the famous Polish winged hussars have Hungarian references. The characteristic hussar helmet Szyszak, for example, had its origins in the hungarian sisak helmet. The Hussars wore when they don't wear armor a coat which was called czuha (szűr in Hungarian). The forearms were protected by karwasz vambraces karwos in Hungarian. Also another element of weaponry with the Hungarian origin was also the koncerz a type of a long thrust sword. However, two other elements were the most characteristic of the Hussars, and later of the entire nobility of the Polish empire. The first item is the traditional magierka cap, which had its origin in Hungary as the name clearly shows. Made of thick broadcloth, the cap was worn by the Hussars away from the battlefield later it became fashionable among the entire Polish nobility. The second characteristic element is the famous Hussar sabre which originates from the Hungarian sabre. Magierka caps and sabres became inseparable attributes of the Hussars and, following their example, of all Polish nobility. Before that, sabers were frowned upon by the nobility as weapons used by robbers and peasants. To this day we consider them to be a permanent element of the national dress of the times of Polish empire, on equal footing with żupan and kontusz.

@ voskwy "Poles seem to be completely oblivious after Western whitewashing that Ukrainians worship Bandera and their murder of Polish majorities" LOL you have no idea what Poles think. Nobody forgot about UPA crimes and Polish government reminded Ukraine of that numerous times. Also no Ukrainians celebrate massacres on Poles, they mostly have a twisted view of Bandera as an anti-russian fighter. Lot of them are not even aware of those massarces. Most Poles consider historical relations as "mixed" or "complicated" but if we would just refuse to collaborate with any neighbour that massarced Poles at some point we would have noone left to collaborate with. What Hungarians seem not to understand that Poles see Russia as an arch-rival that once again is moving into "our yard" that are Ukraine and Belarus and feel directly responsible to see them fail in anything they try Both Russian and Polish geopoliticians agree on one thing - Polish-Russian conflict is imposible to avoid It is easy to not fear Russia while hidden behind Carpathians In Poland, not wanting Russia to get spanked or even better removed entirely is considered as pro-russian stance.

My great grandfather was a Hussar Captain in the Royal Hungarian Army during the Warsaw uprising. My grandfather always shared his stories every Christmas at the dinner table about how his father helped the Poles that time. I grew up with this unique love and friendship to Poland in my blood. My fav story when my great grandfather pointed his gun at an SS officer to make him stop beating a Pole civilian front of him and escorted the civilian to a safe zone behind the hungarian lines. According to my grandfather, my great grandfather always got tears in his eyes when he told this story to him. I couldn't get to know him unfortunately, cuz he died before I was born.

Thanks to it my mather and grandmather have alived the wola massacre- germans has murdered 40000-60000 people. Theerefore for me hungarians are true humans and brathers of Poles. Apart from it i like them because i am Polish- we love Hungarians, it is in our cultural code, sutch as drinking, making uprasings and "a nobleman on a homestead equal to a voivode"- Hungarians have the same. Our languages are from different planets, but we have the same spiryt- we are brathers. Hungarians are honoris causa Poles.

Not only that! There were other things not mentioned too! You missed an important historic event, that predates the Mongol invasion by around 195 years. Right after the death of Stephen I of Hungary in 1038, a foreign 'bad guy' named Peter from house Orseolo followed him on the throne in an attempt to vassalize the Hungarian Kingdom into the Holy Roman Empire from the inside. This was possible, because Stephen I married Gisela, a daughter of Duke Henry the Wrangler of Bavaria, who was a nephew of Otto I, Holy Roman Emperor, therefor they had claim to the throne. Long story short, the Hungarian crown princes were called back from their chill time in the Kingdom of POLAND in around 1046 and promptly executed Peter, and restored the Hungarian Turul Dynasty (bloodline of Árpád) to the throne. Béla I of Hungary then in about 1033 married the daughter of King Mieszko II of Poland named Richeza. You can see that a deep Hungarian Pole alliance was starting way before the Mongol invasion.

Dude. First of all, the direct impulse for the start of Polish nation building process was the Magyars invasion of Great Moravia in 906. Thanks to that chain of events the dukes of Wielkopolska maneged to emancipate from the influence of Czechs/Moravians and eventually created a state with the capital citiy in Gniezno. So, you may very well say Hungarians assisted creation of Poland. Well done guys!

Dear Hungarians, we love you regardless of times, governments, politicians and circumstances. This enormity of friendship and warmth towards you cannot be explained in words. Every Pole considers the Hungarian a brother. And it is not a lofty invention of the kind of false "brotherhood of the Slavs" promoted by stupid and honorless Russians, but real, everyday proven for many centuries brotherhood and mutual, huge respect and joy of common company.

Not entirely correct! István Báthory/Stephen Báthory reformed and so improved the winged hussars but not created the winged hussars. By the way, in 1576 Stefan Batory/Báthory István issued an official instruction which was sent to the commander of the hussars, in which the detailed conditions were specified for the standardization of the weapons and armor of the hussars. The document even contained the order to wear Hungarian clothing. However, at that time there was already a fashion for Hungarian clothing in Poland. So the order was actually superfluous. As for the term the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, that's a wrong name for the Polish Empire! To call this state Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth is wrong. This term is wrong because the term Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth is a modern invention in connection with Poland. A nonsensical invention by historians that does not correspond to reality. Moreover, the term is being used incorrectly because the Polish term Rzeczpospolita has been mistranslated as Commonwealth. So the term Commonwealth is used because of an incorrect translation. For that reason alone, one should not use this term. In addition Australia, The Bahamas, and Dominica - have the official title "Commonwealth". If one compare these states with Poland of the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries one can see how absurd the term Commonwealth is instead of Rzeczpospolita. So it would be best to use the Polish term Rzeczpospolita to denote this state. The term Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealt was not used at all in earlier times. It would be appropriate to speak of Rzeczpospolita is the traditional and official name of the state of Poland as a whole, including all duchies i.e. all areas dominated by the Polish Parliament and the Polish King . It is a combination of rzecz "thing, matter" and pospolita "common", a calque of the Latin res publica (res "thing" + publica "public, common"), so the republic, incorrectly translated as Commonwealth in English. By the way, in Poland, the word Rzeczpospolita is used exclusively in relation to the Republic of Poland, while other republic is referred to in Polish as "republika". Used in international treaties and diplomacy, the state has been called the most serene ( most high) Rzeczpospolita Poland (Polish: Najjaśniejsza Rzeczpospolita Polska, Latin: Serenissima Res Publica Poloniae or also Rzeczpospolita of the Polish Kingdom or Rzeczpospolita of Poland. Its residents simply referred it in the everyday language as Rzeczpospolita or Poland occasionally also the crown. But the state was never called Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Never! The term Rzeczpospolita seems difficult to pronounce for non-Poles. But that is not the case at all. With a little practice, anyone can pronounce the term correctly, even you. A little help: Rz is pronounced like the "isi" in vision. So virzon sounds like vision. Cz sounds like the "ch" in church. So Czurcz sounds like church. But if one just use "sh" instead of "rz", that sounds close to Polish. "Ch" can be used instead of "cz". So Shechpospolita would be written in English, which could be pronounced without problems. So there is no reason not to use this correct term. By the way, the Polish Empire could also be used as an alternative to Rzeczpospolita for this state if one wants to use a modern term. The term Swedish Empire is also used, or even Danish Empire.

We should also add the fact that some polish and some hungarian monarchs were realated and sometimes were even wearing both crowns. - Ladislaus I (king of Hungary and Croatia) was son of Richeza of Poland - daughter of Mieszko II Lambert (king of Poland). - Elizabeth of Poland was a sister of Casimir III the Great (king of Poland) and daughter of Ladislaus I Elbow-high (king of Poland) married Charles I Robert (king of Hungary and Croatia). Their son Louis I the Great was both king of Hungary and Croatia and later also king of Poland and his daughters were crowned as kings of those two countries - Mary I of Anjou (king of Hungary and Croatia) and Hedwig I of Anjou (king of Poland and grand duchess of Lithuania). - Sigismund of Luxembourg (king of Hungary, Croatia, Germany and Bohemia, prince-elector of Brandenburg and Holy Roman Emperor) was great-grand son of Casimir III the Great (king of Poland), he was also a husband of Mary I of Anjou who also just like him had a blood of Piasts. - Ladislaus of Varna - king of Poland and Supreme Duke of Lithuania was also later coronated as king of Hungary and Croatia, his death was actually connected to the fact that he accepted hungarian crown. - Vladislaus II (king of Hungary, Croatia and Bohemia) was son of Casimir IV Jagiellon (king of Poland and Supreme Duke of Lithuania) and nephew of Ladislaus III of Varna (king of Poland and Hungary and Supreme Duke of Lithuania). - John Zápolya (king of Hunagry) was son of Hedwig of Cieszyn (polish princess). - John Sigismund (king of Hunagry) married Isabella of Poland who was the oldest child of Sigismund the Old (King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania), sister of Sigismund Augustus (King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania but also the first ruler of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth) and Anna I of Poland - who together with her husband Stephen Báthory were co-rullers of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and what is also important Stephen was also Prince of Transylvania and member of the Hungarian Báthory noble family. - Maximilian (King of Hungary, Croatia, Germany, Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor) was a son of Anna Jagellonica who was a daughter and a grand daughter of both Hungarian and Polish monarchs (honestly too much connections, it deserves it's own comment). Those aren't even all the connections but those are the most important I think.

Sorry for grammar mistakes in Hungarian if I made some.

He was Polish. He started talking in Hungarian and I was shocked. He told me that we are brothers forever. That's when I found out about tge polish-hungarian friendship. One of my best memories ever.

Polish-Hungarian friendship goes much longer into the past than what you stated. Hungarians entered European arena in X century and when they started invading and pillaging German Reich, it instantly became obvious to us Poles that they are people of honor. Polish-Hungarian cooperation against Germany was already taken place as far as XI century.

9:00 A little known political fact: out of all EU members Poland is the one who takes the most refugees per capita. The catch is, majority of them are Ukrainians. And the second thing that I'm very proud of as a Pole is that Poland is also a country in which the biggest percentage (again, out of all EU members) of refugees and migrants decides to get a job. So not only we take more refugees than any other nation in the EU, they aren't a problem for our country because they work instead of living off of social programs.

Great stuff! Just some correction: as others mentioned John Hunyadi wasn't king, but regent. On the other hand Vladislav was the king of Hungary at the time (well one of the kings since civil war stuff..) And one other aspect is the rulers of the kingdom. Through the ages Hungarian and Polish royalty married with eachother, and there were times, when the same ruler sat on both thrones of the two kingdoms (like Hungarian-Polish personal union)
