Holy Shit! Everyone is talking about the ThunderCats Roar, even you guys are talking about it. Today I was thinking "Wouldn't it be funny if LMTYA made a video about ThunderCats Roar" immediatly followed by "Nah, they'll never make a podcast about that," but I guess I was wrong. I expected Swole-quest 3 more than this.

Aleks was legitimately really funny this episode. Particularly when he was ranting about Steven Universe. Good show, boys.

Honestly, rather than calling it “The CalArts Artstyle” since not everyone who uses that artstyle went to that school (ex: Rebecca Sugar), I think a much better name for it, which I’ve heard used online, should be “The Bean Style”. It’s a simple name that doesn’t point everything to ONE school, while also accurately describing how it looks.

My biggest beef with the new Thundercats is that dem cowards didn't call it, "Thundercats HOOOOOO!!!". That would've gotten props from me at least.

The calarts art style has been a deep meme in the art community, to me every one is the normie.

TTGO stings because Young Justice was actually pretty mature and had a lot of character development, a fairly interesting ongoing story and some great action and it was replaced with that bright colored lol so random XD garbage. You're not wrong that it's biggest problem was that it's very comics-based and no one but comic nerds were excited to see characters like Roy Harper and Jaime Reyes (although they made him super annoying) be important to the plot rather than the usual suspects. It didn't help it happened right around the same time Marvel scrapped Earths Mightiest Heroes, which also was really comic-reader oriented, and Spectacular Spider-Man. So, yeah a lot of people were pissed that YA got canned right as it was getting incredibly interesting and replaced with a mindless comedy banking entirely on "people liked teen titans right?" despite tge fact that the TT cartoon is based on the Wolfman/Perez TT and much less representative of the IP's total life - but there I am being the exact kind of comic nerd who despises TTGO just for what it represents as money-grubbing cynical corporate oversight stepping on art.

Holy shit, Aleks was on the warpath in this one. I love it. Tangentially heard of or seen some of these shows, maybe an episode or two and at first it was just like "oh okay thats not so bad." *2 similar shows later* "okay please." *2 more* "but why?" Its like you said, not so bad but when its applied to a new concept and with an actually entertaining story; but when you decide to remake something or your story goes to shit then what are you left with? Similar to x looking garbage plot bullcrap.

To be fair I've quite a few fans of the 2011 reboot of Thundercats. My biggest issue with TTG is that it's a comedy that's not funny. There was a series of shorts with the same concept that I actually like called The New Teen Titans. The difference being it tried to have cleaver humor. I could say more about Roar, but I already made a short video with everything I could say.

It's at times like this I wish I could do more than thumbs up a video.

The thing about the "Calarts" style is that I can like it, I didn't mind OK K.O., but when it's used for a show that did not previously use this style like Teen Titans, Thundercats or whatever, I always get the distinct feeling that it's gonna be one of those shows in name only and nothing else. My point is, if someone's gonna make a show, use the style you want if the show is it's own thing, an original, but if it's supposed to be related to any of the previous shows, the better thing to do is to stick to the previously established artstyle or a close equivalent.

Main problem with the new Thundercats is that it follows a trend of taking serious action cartoons and making them into mind numbingly stupid silly comedies.

I'd love to see an episode on Adventure Time! It gets swept under the rug with stuff like Steven Universe due to mild progressive themes and a generally simple art style, but the over-arching story and heart behind the show is the most genuine telling of A Hero's Journey for kids I've seen since Harry Potter (which also gets undeserved shit for it's fanbase). I think we need to address the Hanna Barbera cartoons. I can say it was perfectly acceptable for them to do things cheaply and reuse assets. Back in the '60s, '70s and early '80s it was almost impossible to make money from cartoons. Animators had shoestring budgets and some of the guys were working on 4-5 shows at the same time. So I can forgive Hanna Barbera's kind of bad animation. Nowadays, there is no excuse unless you're independent and need to get something done fast. There are so many tools and computers to make even an amateur look like a master.

here's the thing about the Cal Arts style people are talking about... im not seeing it. yeah a lot of cartoons are bubbely nowadays... and yeah i would like to see a show look a little more gritty and serious (with a tone to match) but just because most of the shows have a smilar B head shape on the main character doesnt mean each show doesnt look unique. regular show's characters are usually taller than they are wide than the other shows... steven universe has a variety of character shapes. adventure time has each character kinda based off its own shape (fin is a rectangle, jake is a circle, etc. its just this show's art style is BAD. it looks cheap. the proportions are off. the characters look like they are covered in grease. at least the intro was animated by actually competent people so they dont look so disgusting in the into.

Part of my issue with TTGO because of how as a whole it feels like such a corporate move rather than any merit for integrity. It seemed like CN wanted a money maker a mass produced cartoon that would act as a catalyst and a fall back similar to Nick's Spongebob. The easiest way to garner attention is to take a property that could exceed a decade in how long its been since an iteration. Doof it up a bit and throw it onto a time slot again with no merit for integrity it's just a derivative piece of entertainment banking off the YOUNGEST audience which will consume anything that bounces and makes no real sense. This is the mo with making a cartoon modern you strip its focus appeal to an older audience and make it for a younger crowd essentially watering down the experience so it's "acceptable" to that target crowd.

My problem with Thundercats Go is the fact that its yet ANOTHER Cal Arts reboot of a previous good show but now is a comedy and written by a guy who clearly doesnt care or like the original source material.
