- Christmas is coming so we visited a place where an adult can feel like a kid again!
Anyhow, we ‘started’ the day doing a diagnostic on a Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 Petrol. Customer states that the vehicle does not start. An RAC technician diagnosed the fault and found that fuel-air mixture is running lean, but obviously not the cause of it not starting.
We then moved on to replacing a Gearbox, Clutch and Dual-Mass Flywheel on a 2016/2017 Ford Transit- EcoBlue Ford Transits. You guys already know, it is very common for the gearbox and driveshafts to go on these vehicles, so we replaced it… or did we…?
Finally, we diagnosed a customer’s vehicle as he’s got his ABS, Traction Control Light, and Amber Parking Light on his vehicle. Local garage advised him to replace the driveshaft, ABS sensor and ABS, which I found odd; it’s almost like he’s just removing all the parts that may cause those lights to come on. Anyway, we diagnosed it and found out what’s actually wrong with it, without playing the guessing game. Watch the video and find out.

Seems that someone has swapped a faulty sensor for a new one & took it straight back to ECP & they’ve booked it back in without checking ? Hence pulled a fast one cheeky git , I don’t really buy from ECP as just to expensive for retail customers, trade are looked after but not retail so not worth buying crap at retail prices . BTW please keep theses vids coming , you do an exceptional job & seem an honest guy who is happy to share problems for all to see in case we have same issues ⭐️👍🚗🤗

Not that I'm criticising, but rather some friendly advice. The reluctor rings on those driveshafts expand from corrosion in the C.V. joint and cause shine spots on the ring from contact with the sensor. This inevitably rubs down the sensor till it stops working. You have resolved a problem by replacing the sensor which is not a hard diagnosis but you've neglected the cause of the fault. This will happen again and if you scoped the wave form after installing the new sensor you would have seen an inconsistent waveform. The other garage is pulling their luck though, you can just clean the joint and install a new reluctor ring.

Old sensor was not rubbed down, fortunately enough. I am aware of this common fault but as you can see, the reluctor ring isn’t silvering like what you mentioned, still rusty just like anything on this car. It was scoped after and the waveform is perfect and consistent. This is one of those things that I always look out for to make sure I don’t go back to the job Edit: Thank you for the friendly advice mate. Everyone in our industry should be like this imo. so I've watched a few of your videos and from someone who's got over 40 years in the motor industry it's nice to see some youngsters getting their hands dirty and getting on in the trade. I have one criticism thought and that is that in almost every video that I've seen of yours you seem to criticise the work of garages and people that have worked on cars that you are fixing and I wonder if that's such a good idea. anyway I wish you all the best with your business and hope to see it build into a very successful career for you and I will continue to check out your videos 👍👍

Agree, I hate when those youtubers do that to big them self's up! The garage did right to advice driveshaft replacement on that bimmer. The abs pick up is rusty and can brake up anytime then damaging the new ABS sensor fitted. Is a common issue for those abs rings to brake up. You're young, new in the trade and you will learn. Please don't do that!

@pgtips1199 definitely not new in the trade. I look young but I am not. Yes I know how common this is but not with this one. ABS ring is perfect and not shining. I mean, if my diagnosis is wrong, that customer would have been pestering me by now to get his car fixed again 😬👀

Agree, He will come unstuck one day, I have been doing it 35 years and we see alot of stuff that others have got wrong, However we don't broadcast it, We all make mistakes in the trade and being big headed on youtube cristising other mechanics is going to land him in trouble.

It may not need a new driveshaft but if definitely needs a new reluctor ring, you can see the shiny bits.

Had to do this on both in mine. What happens is it rusts from underneath the reluctor and expands it to the sensor, which ruins it. After replacing only the reluctor on mine, be prepared to glue the new ones in cause after cleaning the rust away, the new reluctor is actually too big to fit the axle shaft

Hopefully you'll be able to go back in the shop and buy any tools you fancy at some point mate, you proper graft your arse off. Would love to see you with 250k subs and making plenty of cash out working in the future. I'm 100% a believer that you change the plugs with a new coilpack, I know plug prices are daft now but it's a false econemy to scrimp on a set of plugs. The customer is always right though, even when they are wrong lol.

Coil pack should be checked for input before condemning. Many faults can cause no spark.

I cant believe how bad Fords are nowadays, I thought it was just the Fiesta ECO Boom, but transits as well, I was going to buy a MK7 fiesta 1.2 but when I looked on Autotrader there were just 12 in all the UK in my price range, but there were about 400 1.0 ECO Booms, I'll stick with my Corsa SXI for now.

1st rule of buying a car should be replace anything thats over 5 yr old ---- plugs filters and coil pack. dont wait till they fail -- if you can afford it -- do it. peace of mind.

Hi good video my friend she has a vauxhll corsa 1.2sxi and not long ago it started running terribly and it turned out to be plugs and coil pack and i cleaned the throttle body and breather pipe I've done a few other jobs on it running fine now my grandad son had a BMW and that had abs fault and it was on the drive shaft i was going to bo it but he whent to the BMW garage it cost him a fortune he had other jobs done im just working on my mondeo mk4 2.0 i have changed the gearbox but i have not finished it yet i know is awful in bad weather

Just a quick one with that 1 series abs issue. Those ‘ tone ‘ rings on the driveshafts corrode and swell up , eventually shaving the abs sensor down. Probably why the other garage said it needs a driveshaft. You can actually get the tone ring from Eurocarparts , driveshafts are a piece of cake to get out.

Other comments mentioned that they saw it in the video (which at the time of filming I didn’t see, or at least it’s what I always look out for as I know how common it is. Funny thing is, old ABS sensor was not shaved or even scratched). I reviewed the original clip and saw some shine on the ring BUT the shine is too shiny for a car that’s not been used for 2-3 weeks. I know it’s not on the video but I did brush the ring a little because it might’ve been just the rust. I digress, I scheduled a check-up for this job next week with the customer so will be posting here again Thank you pal

Have you done a video/mobile workshop tour about what tools you use? I know you're not a dewalt guy but their new impacts are beasts, even the itty bitty 921 can pile on the pounds. The 891 mid torque almost negates the need for a high torque.

Put a set of starline wheel bearings in a car for my mate, felt like the wheels were falling off. 1k miles later big wurring sound from em. Told him to buy skf, put them in. Drives like new. I will never buy anything starline again.

That sensor just poped out for you lol , i had to change the ABS sensor on the wifes mini , it snapped , put a screw in to pull it out however it was in there so tight the screw snapped ended up having to take the wheel hub off and drill it out , cleaned up the hole the sensor sit in with a dremmal and the sensor just went straight in with no fuse.

I now try to use GSF as I have had to return faulty or used parts back to Eurocarparts multiple times. Once ordered a Delphi coil pack for the Corsa and tried to give me a Starline one🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Then they will same “Same quality” 😂 Tbh, obviously this is just my experience, I’ve fitted starline stuff in the past but never had an issue with them. That being said though, I don’t vouch for them, nor I think they should be an alternative for the good brands 🤷🏽‍♂️

They are very common to cause non-start on all Vauxhalls. Common sign, misfire, lack of power and then kaput, non-start

well people dont seem to think about changing spark plugs i put stock spark plugs on my kia picanto at 80k and 110k i was getting delay on the throttle took spark plugs out and there was a big gap so i put new ones in again i didnt think of bothering using iridium at the time as i thought they would last till i sell the car but didn't and i sold it at 135k because clutch bearing was failing so i wanted something faster so sold it

Solid man! Thing is, when the gap gets too big, what will happen is that the coil pack is forced to produce more voltage, which in turn can overheat the pack and kill it. Probably the reason why this one failed

14:13 I’m almost certain you won’t but don’t make the mistake I see on these vans on a weekly basis at the roadside…make sure you replace the mirror complete with ambient temperature sensor! So many have had new/replacement mirrors fitted and then they are having DPF issues in a weeks time after haha…always a hole in the new mirror housing where the sensor should be! Trying to convince them that’s the reason for their reduced power mode and warning lights on dash issue is always difficult! Haha

Looking at the AllData wiring diagram, they have 1 common driver and if that driver fails, that whole pack fails. Correct me if I’m wrong though 🤔

Totally safe as long as you use wood or something of the same material. It is actually on many manuals to support by the sump. If you’re worried about it, engine crane can also do the job

My Mrs has a Citroen c3 auto oh my goodness it was spitfire g not pulling and lean no mechanic could diagnose it I replaced the crankshaft sensor no joy I bought rubbish dealer spark plugs even worse I tried one last thing the coil pack it was Delphi and new spark plugs Bosch and bingo it was like original car again irony is to be careful loads of them mechanics who didn't know said scrap it although it took 3 weeks to resolve lamba sensor nah catalytic converter nah what jokers out there

1. That means we will lose time for when have to come back, let’s say, a month later, if it breaks. Time = Money for us mobile mechanics 2. Travel Expense, again, we will lose money. 3. Letting them know that cheap parts doesn’t come with warranty will sway them closer to buying better parts, which is a good thing anyway… 4. Reputation is very very very important to us. Selling cheap parts to customers is not ideal because they tend to fail quicker than the more expensive counterparts

Euro car parts are crap! I made two trips today as they sent me the wrong oil filter, then the wrong sump plug, the the website wouldn’t let me order oil for collection and the shop tried to charge me £10 more even though I was picking the oil up! GSF from now on.
