In this first video on internal ballistics Rex introduces the topic by walking through the outline of the series. Understanding Internal Ballistics is fundamental to the successful deployment of your long range rifle system. There are many interrelated factors that can affect the way your rifle vibrates which can dramatically affect the axis of your bore changing your point of impact from round to round. In order to develop the skills necessary to deal with these unseen variations, one has to study how different conditions inside the rifle affect the motion of the projectile.
For those of you who want to keep this all organized, here is the basic outline of what this portion of the series will cover:
Advanced Internal Ballistics -- by TiborasaurusRex
I. Intro to Internal Ballistics
A. The sequence that occurs within the chamber and barrel
B. Opposing Forces -- 2 opposing forces act on a projectile within the bore.
II. Bore axis shifts
A. Harmonic / Vibratory Inconsistencies
1. Rifle System Rigidity
2. Poor Rifle Deployment
B. Muzzle Break Pull-Off
III. Muzzle Velocity Variation (MVV)
A. Bore/projectile Dynamics and MVV
1. Bore wear
2. Fowling
3. Coppering
4. Bore Temperature
5. Projectile Temperature
6. Barrel Memory
B. Rifle manufacturing tolerances and MVV
1. Chamber dimensions
C. Ammunition Inconsistencies and MVV
1. Minimizing Ammunition Inconsistencies that increase MVV
a) Factory Ammo
b) Reloading
COMPONENT ISSUES
RELOADING EQUPIMENT
RELOADING BASICS & TIPS
D. Ammunition Temperature and MVV
1. Propellant Burn Rate Changes with Temperature
2. Causes of Ammo Temperature Changes
3. Dealing with Ammunition Temp Issues
4. Also, copper jacket lubricity changes with temp
All the music, animations, and photography in this video were created by TiborasaurusRex, and unsigned artist.

If I made money on this, that means someone would have to pay for it. I want to make sure you guys get this all for free, without having to jump through anyone's hoops. :-) Peace.

'Rex: Yesterday I figured out what is so interesting about your tutorials. After watching close to about 1200 minutes of your Sniper 101 series, it's now clear that your informative instruction leads to your viewers feeling empowered. This past spring I spent a very short time doing my first engagements past 500 meters (except for 3 targets on iron sights with an M16 at Stewart and of course gunning on an M1A1) and considering all the factors that I was able to, given limits in equipment, I hit a milk jug and several center mass shots with a cheap cheap 30-06 and a decent mil dot scope. I have a lot more to do and learn but I know that engaging targets anywhere below the supersonic limits of any caliber I shoot will yield the results I'm looking for. Who knew someone could put it so plainly? Thank you for your service.

Thank you, sir. I'm glad you guys are liking this series. I was worried it would be too detailed. But we'll get through it eventually. Ted??? Anyone who is a hard working American who respects the Constitution and loves this country is a blood brother to Ted!

Absolutely remarkable information you have provided. Nowhere on the web have I seen so much accurate information offered up for free!! Thank you for raising the consciousness of the shooting community by detailing the science applied to long range shooting. Ranger Sniper Scout School? These videos just keep getting better and better. I am so thankful for the opportunity to watch these. I have been all about the AR platform for so long. Oblivious to this fine art. I will be starting from scratch with a bolt gun, and be following these instructions exactly over the next year or two.

Hi Rex, man you are takin the mystery out vid by vid. These are conditions that I knew had an effect, but saw no consistent approach to solutions. Your systematic formulas, dynamics log charts and work flow is explained so well you are taking us way beyond the field manual while building confidence in the physics. Thanks

GREAT QUESTION - I just sat down to do the video on rifle bores. I will answer that question in full detail in my next vid. I almost forgot about that question, thanks for reminding me. Hang in there.

For the purposes of extreme long range precision shooting you will still need to log your MV at your different operating temperatures as they will be significantly different from the manufacturers data at different points.

Rex this is the third time I am going through watching the sniper 101 series. I can't tell you how helpful this has been for me. The amount of time and work you have put into the series is apparent through each video. This is the most thorough and extensive instructional videos on elr shooting I have ever seen. I would love to hear you talk more about yourself and your experience in developing your skills. Too me it sounds like you had some pretty advanced training from Uncle Sam

Absolutely love the vids! I've been reading and researching for a couple years while I get my gear together, and you've condensed several books into a condensed video version that takes A LOT of the mystery out of the subject when it comes to solutions.

Holy Smokes! A Friend of mine recommended this series to me and I watched the first 25 or so videos without learning anything now we are getting to the meat of it and I don't know if I can handle it, lol. you have me on the edge of suspense as I try to figure out how to adjust for actual vs horizontal range without having to crawl through the ticks and chiggers with not only a drag bag but also a drag binder that requires hardware store upgrades to carry all my cards with differences and changes. I am super excited to see how you conquer this feat simply and to continue learning more. Thanks again for the time you have invested into this project for all of us, it is a true charity. I am very happy I started at the beginning so that all of the back references are clear to me. The time I have invested is so little compared to the time, knowledge and wisdom that you have put into this.

Hey Rex. Just wanted to send a big thanks for taking the time and effort it has clearly taken to put this series together. I've been looking for a technical treatment of this topic for a long time and what you've produced here is, in my opinion, the best available...by far. Also, are you related to Ted Nugent? You look like a young Ted and sound just like him ;) Thanks again for the solid gold resource.

Although tape should not negatively affect accuracy potential, it may slightly change the POI when it is added, so you may simply want to re-verify your zero after your wrap it up.

Thanks for the great series, Rex. A question... if using a standard off-the-shelf round, is it still necessary to chrono them or can you just use the manufacturer's velocity data as a basis?

lol - Actually that would be pretty good, minus the NcStar scope. If you put a SS10X on one of those bad boys you could rock it at a pretty good distance. I’ve thought about doing that, believe it or not.

Does camo thin Scrim wrapped over the barrel (and therefore the rest of the rifle) effect the harmonic motion to an extent to change the bullets POI? I'm really not to keen on painting my system.
