I am so pleased you commented about distance, Robert. Archery is a close up game. I've killed only a smaller proportion of animals you have taken but they were all at 8 yards. I have had them even closer, but those did not present a clear shot, so I got to enjoy looking at the dimples on their noses as well. Please keep these videos coming. You are a great storyteller and teacher.

Those tips you just gave are worth a million dollars, especially to a new hunter. Never had trouble picking my spot. My trouble was allowing everything to come to a solid stop after I hit my anchor. That stop might be just a split second and might be more mental than physical but you gotta do it. Otherwise your bow hand might still be moving. A man is slow and so is his arrow while an alerted animal can beat you for reaction time every time. Ive often wondered how we survived for so long. Boy! I wish I could sit down and have a confab sometime. I'd tell you a story or 2, true ones too. Well, maybe?

Awesome content! So refreshing to find a channel I can save videos for my daughters and know its wholesome with out all the cussing. Instinctive archery is so pure and natural..just getting back to my archery roots myself and teaching my daughters instinctive with recurves..so long ago in my yputh, running around with a Little Bear bow and having a blast..got lost in compounds and took a 30yr hiatus.. Back with gusto! And having so much fun learning and teaching my girls..can't wait for October!

as always, enjoy your down to earth videos. as you already know, having health issues and being older sure makes everything more challenging. I am crippled in my right foot from a botched operation and am on my second cornea transplant with half of my left eye's eyelids sewn shut. this makes my depth perception quite a challenge but one has to deal with it as best as we can. I sure hope that you heal up and are able to get back out in those swamps, my walking like that are over and my tree climbing is over too. But still a very blessed man. that is a good looking Osage bow, I now have 4 Osage and one Hackberry. It is an awesome thing to make your own bow and arrow, a lot of satisfaction. So now I am pretty much a ground blind hunter with some limited ladder stand. it is what it is and you learn to make do with what you can still do. So don't ever slow down and keep on being you.

45 years of trad archery and this season I've really struggled. I lost one buck and missed 2 all under 15 yards. Going to have to get back to some basics and stick to one bow. perhaps my eye surgery 2 years ago has changed my sight picture and I've struggled with my anchor.

Bow hunting was meant to be at close rage for sure. And remembering to pick a SPOT on a live animal has always been a challenge for me. Its probably the hardest to master.

I really enjoy your tip videos. Could you make a video about your favorite way to cook deer or hog.

My rule of thumb is to pick a spot where I want the arrow to exit not where I want the arrow to enter. Works all the time

I like your use of the plain cardboard as it forces you to pick that spot. I’ve used myself but unfortunately it’s only good for one shot. I’ve tried black color too with black electric tape to cover the hole so you’re forced again to pick that spot.

If you watch very many videos shooting from like 20 + feet high many will be spine hits. For two main reasons- the deer dropped or the shooter doesn’t understand where to aim from an elevated position. There are several videos using 3-d targets for reference on these type shots. Another good video here with great information. 👍👍

Great lesson on shooting! Interesting information about shooting deer and hogs using the " Right angle formed by the leg intersecting the edge of the chest cavity! Great shot placement that you made other cardboard target! Have you made any videos depicting the difference of shooting from the ground as opposed to shooting from a tree stand? Also noticed that you have quite an assortment of camo bucket hats! Are all of these from different manufactures or all from the one source? Enjoy your videos!

Robert, what type of quiver do you prefer?

Aiming low on a treestand can actually lead to a wounded animal. One time I hit a deer low, I coulda sworn I hit him mid chest but it was lower 3rd. I missed both lungs. He slowly walked away 100 yards and layed down and died of pneumothorax. Now arguably that's better than spining a deer aiming high still.
