Using an example, this video explains the procedure for calculating the longitude of a ship based on the 'long by chron' method. The example uses the sextant altitude of the MOON as a celestial body. The position through the position line (P/L) passes and the observed longitude is calculated in this video.

Did I miss something? You're in GMT -6 time zone, using an almanac based on GMT -0, so why is the watch even set to GMT -12 to begin with???

Sir plz make a video when time gaining n slow. Example- The chron was 01m20s slow @12 hr GMT on 25th feb 1992 and gaining 4s daily

sir i have a doubt on the part where u relate P and LHA. As per u, if before merpass, LHA = 360 -P and P= LHA in case of after merpass. But somewhere i have seen another method that is :- If P 180 then LHA= 360 -P . Can you please clarify the difference as i am confused in this.

Sir, Here is giving AM of the ship , that means morning time , so it should be before mar pass. how it can be after mer pass? pls explain

The celestial body is Moon, not Sun:)

A small conformation sir . We are supposed to check mer pass time of moon every time while calculating the value of LHA ? I was solving a question where in the sight was taken in the evening PM time which gives us an indication that LHA lies between 0 and 180 . But the merpass time was another 1.5 hrs after the sight was taken hence . Which i guess implies LHA lies between 180 and 360 ?
