Hi Ilkka, could you please do a tutorial on structure, mechanics and hip rotation in longsword? It's very apparent in your sidesword cutting drill videos but I'm really struggling to work it into my longsword practice without overbalancing myself.

When new video?

When practicing we learn to move the weapon first but when I see cutting it's always body first...

Yes, it often is because it is easier to cut that way. I generally don't emphasize too much the sword first aspect when practicing just cutting, because cutting is fun and to me it is okay to do it the way it is most efficient. The big thing is to be aware of the differences though. Even when fencing with someone sometimes these rules can be broken, or bent. Not all needs to be "combat simulation". That said, of course using less distance for accelerating cuts and less body power can be a useful exercise too.

Who's the maker of that sword?
@ilkkaouto7 жыл бұрын
It's an Albion Earl. Why does someone always ask about the maker of the sword in a video? I've never done that myself. :D

I'm just fascinated by what people use for training. I'm still looking for a good (and affordable) sharp, that's why I ask everytime if I see a video like this. :)

CampeadorHUN I borrowed the Earl but can only say goid things about it. It is perhaps not the cheapest option but cheap and good don't always match. :)

Except when it's Regenyei. :P Jokes aside, unfortunately I don't have 1,500 bucks to throw out the window, so I guess I gotta make due somehow. Like borrowing an Albion when I get the chance. :D Until I grow up and become rich ennough to buy one. :P

The sidesword I have (I have two, and have cut with three others) is made by Vladimir Cervenka of www.sword.cz. He also makes longswords, so I suggest you contact him. The sideswords handle extremely nicely, so probably his longswords would be great as well.
