Thanks for the quality video. I have always called the rope below a descender the "brake rope". I like your term "control rope" better.

When you add the short link in this demo, is there any specific reason why you connect from the casualty chest point, into your waist D ring, rather than your descender karabiner? On the final decent, the casualty looks to be pulling you down as the weight is on your waist D-ring and not the RIG karabiner. Your videos are fantastic by the way. Many thanks

Hi Jason, I connected directly to my D ring with the short connection as it's a little more efficient climbing out, if you connect to the karabiner on the descender it tends to slide up and down the on the descender karabiner. It works either way though. With the Petzl Astro harness I now use a progress adjust from the bar on my D ring as the short connection and everything is loaded in a nicer way.

@@independentropes4922 Yeah I had thought it was due to the climb out. Makes sense. Many thanks for the reply. Your videos got me a perfect score on my level 3 assessment yesterday after 5 years off the ropes lol. Happy days...

Would you not put the short connection onto the spine of the ID carabiner? Great rescue, Jim

0:20 when you are connecting yourself to loop ropes for guidance, is 2 x points mandatory, or you can be on 1 carabiner for guidance? Thanks

The chance of a single karabiner failing and taking the swing are very small but for the effort involved to add a second point I would do it. An assessor is going to want to see the double connection.

I thought that the short link would always have to be connected to your descendents carabiner instead of your D ring. With the petzl new harnesses that would be a no no
@independentropes4922
@independentropes4922 3 жыл бұрын
The D ring on this harness can be loaded in multiple directions although it is stronger with an end to end pull. Pull tests have shown failure at 26kN end to end and 15kN sideways. I find less potential to cross load the descender karabiner this way and it feels more efficient when climbing out. If using the Astro harness a progress adjust from the removable bar on your harness to the casualty's D ring would be ideal.
