When the Civil Rights movement began, Martin Luther King, Jr. catapulted in the spotlight as the pioneer for equality for African Americans. Now, as presidential candidate, Bernie Sanders uses his time marching with great activist to gain minority voters, Lord Jamar says he's not too impressed.
The Brand Nubian rapper says he would have affected more if the politician marched alongside Malcolm X. During this sit down, the rapper says the movement led to conscious rap that could have led to a revolution, but was later clouded by Gangster rap.

Probably because MLK was a bit easier to digest than Malcolm X. But i'm sure there's some underlying conspiracy to all this. Like when i dropped my toast butter side down this morning.

Jamar got a good point when he talks bout black men in Chicago not sure about living past 25 but the black experience isn't just in the hood. It's that mindset that is holding us back as a people. We need more positivity and optimism in our community because not all of us came from the hood and do have hope that 1 day we will get where we want to be. That's why Cole and Kendrick are on top of the game cuz they don't just talk bout hood shit

I get both sides of this convo. On one hand living pay check to pay check it does seem worthless to invest money and let it work itself up. Plus large sums of money don't just fall in ppls hands. My account is the fullest when taxes come around and when financial aid comes. I think it would help if poor communities were given financial literacy programs to teach and encourage using money to build wealth. Great talk Vlad

I'll just call it what it is. I don't consider Martin Luther King Jr. to be my hero or the greatest black American to live. So many other civil rights leaders did a lot too and they died as well. I'm more of a Malcolm X guy too, he spoke the truth and his message transcends time. Call it what you want but Malcolm X will always be the guy that I look up to. His message may have changed at the end but I prefer what he was saying on both ends of the spectrum. I'd just say that Malcolm is that guy that taught me to love myself for what God made me. I'm not a fan of Islam (or any other religion for that matter) but I respect what he was through and through. Regardless of whatever bigoted crap is said, I stand by my people until the end. Growing up in Chicago, I only had a handful of run ins with black people that messed with me. I show my people respect and they show me respect back (usually). When I moved to California, it was a different thing all together. White racists and bigots tried to start s*** on the regular, cops trying to find reasons to pull me over. For some reason people trot out MLK like he is the black Jesus or something. Before people pop off talking about how black people should follow somebody, please make sure you are invited to the conversation. Nobody cares about how non-black people think 'XYZ person' should be our role model. Nobody has any right to tell me who I'm supposed to like.
@anatsusha09
@anatsusha09 8 жыл бұрын
You're making it sound like MLK was this token black man,who didn't understand what was going on in the community at the time.Yes,he was about non-violence,but he understood,why black people were angry,also People seem to ignore that MLK was radical and was more like Malcolm at the end of his life,while Malcolm was becoming more like MLK at the end of his life.I don't understand,why people try to act like Malcolm and MLK were enemies when they were best friends.Did they disagree with some of stuff...yes,but they understood they couldn't let their disagreements get in the way of combating white supremacy. I don't understand,why folks try to act like MLK was all about non-violence when he was much more than that.
@real-ishstraighttruthnocha1687
@real-ishstraighttruthnocha1687 8 жыл бұрын
I know what MLK is and was as well as how he changed his stance. My point is that MLK was not my favorite. His non-violence stance didn't sit well with me regardless of what people think. Malcolm X's points seemed more valid and his logic was almost always on point. I'm not disrespecting MLK, I'm saying I'd follow Malcolm if I was alive during his time.

What Jamar is saying has alot of truth to it interms of stocks, but Vlad makes it clearer because 65 a share is no different than Google shares are about the same per share or more. But to invest at those prices and purchase a thousand shares means your never going to see the "potential growth" simply because you dont have 65 thousand dollars in a bank and started at $65, or $6,500 that your not going to ever touch, never in any time in actual life of everyday? Flipping means seeing from a transaction 2 fold or more its actually minimal whether stocks, bonds, mutufunds, or yearly bank interest, isnt really "flippin cash money". Those who truely make the Profit are the ones that create the value in relation to their interest. Not I, not Vlad, not Jamar.

Facts. Nothing but truth coming out of this man mouth. Young brothers need to peep game on his words. Us as young, black Americans usually don't amount too anything. It's either our community or our own ego holding is back. Majority of black men goes through depression and we don't even realize it. Death is an thought through the whole process, with that logic we're aren't getting anywhere. We need too change, for the better.

When I was growing up in east Chicago, I remember when I was about 7, looking around my neighborhood and thinking "Ima be dead or in prison by the time I'm 18, and I'm not even gonna see my twenties". But this wasn't cause something the "white man" was doing or forcing on me. It was the people in my neighborhood that had me thinking that way because of how they were living, and I could see that. I just had this feeling that in order to survive out in those streets, I was gonna have to do some foul stuff, and I'd end up getting caught up with the cops or get caught up with other people trying to retaliate.. Luckily, we moved outa there a coupke years later. The people in those hoods are the reason kids grow up thinking like that. And now that it's so deeply embedded in the culture or whatever, it's really hard to reverse that. But that don't mean people shouldn't try. There's a lot of talent and smart people that end up having short lives or locked up for 20+ years because of the people in their surroundings. Like Jamar said, that kid aint gonna put that 5k into stocks or think he'll see the fruits of that money later. And the reason for that? Because he thinks he'll get killed by another person in his hood or go to prison for defending himself from someone trying to kill him. And that other person aint gonna be no white man.

'Brother Outsider' is a documentary on Bayard Rustin (who's mentioned in this clip). It should still be on Netflix, and I would recommend checking it out. To add: I feel people should forget it being about "allowing" a certain type of person to be involved in a movement, and spend that energy researching examples of people who were integral parts of great movements, regardless of how they may be identified. Placing on limits on anyone usually means that those people can't possibly exceed them. ...and if you don't know/value/respect James Baldwin - another openly gay activist during the Civil Rights era - get on it.

I'm feelin' you on this one, Uncle. I get what you're sayin', Vladimir, but Uncle's a little more realistic to me. It's hard out here and people are legit skrugglin' and tryin' to make ends meet.

I love reading the comments on vladtv-videos as everyone are doing the same jokes over and over again. It's like going to the groundhog's day comedy club. Please do the one about slim jesus again, or the one about Vlad's questioning or the one about the teaser-videos in the end or the one about you hating Vlad's voice. The only thing you proven is that you watch the clips more than you should do.

Same points Ta nehisi Coates made. When you have to get home from school worrying about stray bullets and gangs you don't have time to think longevity, let alone prosperity. The environment is not fertile for that. But you have to educate your way out of it.

Well look I'm 30 now, and this is very true. I feels like I made it past a certain danger stage. Now all I have to do is worry about my health and not die in my 40's. The cop element is still there but not so much now.
