One little tip I like to give to Dyson owners is to empty the bin after each use, close the bin back up and then turn on the max power mode and pull the trigger for a few seconds. That way it uses the high power mode to extract more dirt into the bin at which point you can empty it again which keeps the entire machine cleaner in between each use.

Very helpfull, thnx! I also found out that after (the second time) you emptied the bin and the bin is still open, you can firmly 'tik' the flat bottom side of the dyson a few times on the edge of the trashcan. That way you can see a lot of very fine dust and dirt falling out of the 'center ring' (the ring in the middle of the bin, which is cleaned by a paint brush in this video). I hope that my explanation makes any sense🙈 I found myself having a hard time to translate this from Dutch to English haha😅

This is the second Dyson cordless for which you have walked me through the disassembly and cleaning. While Dyson succeeds with the suction part of their vacuums, they really fail on the design of the cheap plastic parts that all seem to be a little "fiddly." Thanks from New York City!

I know you said you don't recommend it, but I always wash the cyclone chambers. Amount of gunk that comes out pretty much speaks for itself and no nasty smells after that. However I do let it dry for a at least 3-4days to a week and keep it somewhere warm to dry up and turn it around etc to ensure it is fully dry. Done it tons of times on my V8 and so far so good :).

Shouldn't you be doing this outdoors or near at least a strong HEPA? I guess it depends what you suck up but with using mine in an are a solder often, I'd be getting a nice lead dusting everywhere. I just use computer duster or an air compressor to get the dust out, which is located in the garage and has an air filter but a fan blowing out from where you're working is a good enough solution. Have to clean the main cyclone area every week or so, same with the dyson cinetic big ball. Constant caking of dust. No idea why they would suggest the V8 and cinetic are more hygenic to empty, my old dysons (original root 6, first handheld, and dc48 animal) didn't have this level of dust caking and they are lower powered. Off topic but the cinetic big ball comes with a stupidly short hose that makes it almost unusable for anything above shoulder height as you run out of hose. Luckily support sent me pretty much every accessory for free along with a 2nd hose for both the cinetic big ball (actually 2 hoses, and it came with one) so I was able to combine 2 hoses for the big ball together after taking off the part that clips to the tank on one end and the rotating part where the hose attaches to the accessory. Connect those two parts together and instantly it becomes 100x more useful. The left over socket where accessories from the big ball attached that was removed for the double hose was then press fit onto the extra V8 hose and now it can use any accessory (v8 hose is smaller diameter.) Had no isses with these modifications and using the bigger tools on the v8 is great! Should be an option in the store. Customer Service sure gives away accessories like crazy if not satisfied with the product. Hundreds of dollars worth of them and parts (including 2nd v8 canister) and I didn't ask for any of them. Pays to buy from Dyson direct.

I have had a V8 for 5 years or so and it works great. The one thing I do differently is that I use my air compressor to blow all the dirt out of the unit once dismantled. I also have a V6 and just purchased the Outsize Absolute plus. I highly recommend the air compressor approach in lieu of the paint brush method.

Thanks for the video. For cleaning the metal screen and cyclone air piece (6:17), if you have an air compressor it can do wonders for getting fine dust out (outside!). This is especially helpful if you've been using the vacuum on drywall or plaster dust, and it's amazing how much gets trapped in this piece.

@@deenasteinberg9800 possibly. If it has a tank and you can use a spray nozzle (instead of a tire valve adapter) then it should be doable. If no tank and low flow rate (like a tire pump) then no.

Just adding to the other users who found this helpful. Note I did use water to clean my filters and had to wait quite a bit for it to dry out. In my case I'd vacuumed ditumaceous earth that fell on the floor and that really clogged all filters. Even with the water and some anxious moments, it did work after a long period of drying and putting on max for a 30 seconds to force the filtration (after having been as dry as I could get it).

1st: Thank you so much for presenting this video on-line. I do not recall any directions from Dyson, in their booklet that came with the machine. The video is very professional and to the point. 2nd: I am not making this comment concerning Dan's comment, so please do not misunderstand me. Dan said, "Kind of stupid that Dyson designed this so you can't clean the most dirty part of the vacuum, the part above the canister." I AGREE, 100%! Every Fall, (back in the day), when the weather cooled, I would take all seven of my $30.00 room-floor-fans and place them in my driveway. I had a hot water valve that I rigged up so that I could have any temp of water going into a garden hose. I would set the temp around 190F (like a cup of coffee) and hose all over the fans, blades, motor, cords, etc., to make sure I got the dust out. Some times, I would have to do a small disassembly of the blade guard, and use a towel to clean the grit out. I then left them out overnight (on the back deck so nobody could see/steal them). I then took them inside, where they stayed in a storage room for six months, before I pulled them out to use again. Now, I never knew how long it took for everything to dry, and should anything rust, I could repair/replace as needed (not much money). Nothing ever rusted and they all worked as expected for years (my nephew wanted them when I moved and I never heard about them since. I never shared my story about them, to him, either). Now, if I could find a V8 Dyson at a yard sale or flea market at a very, very low price, I would do the same thing. But, I am an old school guy. So, I would take it apart, hose out that part above the cannister, keep it in a warm place for three months, and then test it, to see if it worked (I'd also be concerned with any copper wires or lubrication points, and if it worked, I would continue with the hosing and drying for two months, then one month, and then stop at two weeks. Two weeks, and if it still worked, I would be satisfied. I am just sharing my thoughts, here. Remember, these machines originally cost around $800.00. So I would not try this on my main vacuum. Also remember, what would happen if it was wet! Just sharing my life experiences and my thoughts. After all, I really love my Dyson. Why? Because it really, truly, sucks!

When the unit has not been cleaned/maintained in a long time, I suggest not to wash the fabric triangular/funnel shape filter as explained in the video. The reason for that is because the dirt is collected/trapped inside that filter. If the filter is washed without properly been clean from the inside, then there is a high risk of the dirt clogging in the filter. I suggest to first remove the filter's tap/lid/cover, then to vacuum the dirt inside the filter, and to use a brush to loose the dirt trapped inside. Only after that, the filter can be washed as shown in the video. Never to run water inside the filter as that will push the dirt further inside the filter causing a clogged filter.

Hey thanks for uploading this. There’s one thing I need to point out. The transparent bin may look like just a plastic part but it has electronics in the grey plastic and water can get inside if you rinse it. It’s the circuit that gives power to the motor of the extension head so be careful. The cyclone is the one that can be rinsed but difficult to dry.

7:25 I recommend washing this out with soapy warm water. I do this on all my dyson models. Shake out any left over water and leave it to dry out. I also blow out the motor 2:25 with air which stores a lot of dust

I have a question about blowing out the motor with air: wouldn't that risk harming the motor? It seems you'd be blowing dust into the motor which can't be good. What kind if tiny device sucks out the dust from small spaces rather than blowing it out?

@@Ayram9 no it's just taking off the back filter and turning it on which blows the air and dust out freely.

I use the air compressor and blow it through to rid dust, takes 1 minute. I find it has to be done quite regularly. Filters have to be washed regularly aswell.

Yes, when the Dyson switches from on to off a few times after each other, it's time to clean. After cleaning, it works again.

If you want to take it a step further and have a hair dryer with a cold mode (or an air compressor) you can give everything a quick blast of air on a regular basis to stop dust and grime from caking up inside. Just make sure you only use the cold mode so you don't accidentally toast any internal components.

My mistake was not doing this sooner! It started stuttering, similar to when it's sucking on a solid surface so I found this video and did it. Didn't notice that it had lost sucking power - now it's louder and def improved sucking power. Dried it for around 24 hours but also live in a dry climate.
