For nearly three centuries between 1080 and 1375 a kingdom of exiles from the Armenian Plateau survived in the Taurus Mountains of modern day south-central Turkey. This is the story of the foundation of Armenian Cilicia during the maelstrom of violence that was the end of the Eleventh Century.

Do you know if the roman empire had problems in Dumnonia? I ask because that aria is not heard of much (apart from Exeter) and because of the celtic language (Cornish) which was still commonly used untill the 18th century.
@HistoryTime
@HistoryTime 6 жыл бұрын
The main reason Cornish survives to this day is because the Anglo-Saxons had problems in Dumnonia. Prior to their coming most of the inhabitants of Britain still spoke Celtic languages. I would imagine Cornwall wasn't easy for the Romans, though they certainly brought its tin and mineral deposits under control fairly quickly, as that was one of the reasons for invasion Britain in the first place. I would imagine the Romans sort of let the Cornish be, and gradually Romanised them over successive generations, though this Romanisation was only relatively skin deep, even after four hundred years of rule.

Thank you, you should visit the country if you have a chance to, I visited Armenia in 2010, coming from the USA I can say I never felt more at home, the people’s hospitality especially to foreigners is unbelievable, they’re so open and trusting, people actually talk to each orher out in the streets, unlike in the USA where everyone is in their own world and keep to themselves in public, weary of anyone they dont know. I made 3 good friends in the one month i was there, and the stories on how we met are too long to write but one lf them have me a ride after a left a casino and there were no taxis outside ao I started to walk down the road thinkkng ill find a taxinon the way. In less than 5 min a young guy pulled over and asked me where im going i said Yerevan he said hope in, he took me to his friends record shop, they burned music cds for me and we became friends hanging out almost everyday.

Thank you for a wonderful video . My Great -grandfather was an Armenian with the name Manouk Papazian . He was from the town of Mersina near Tarsus . He was murdered by Turks in 1922. His son Nighogos Papazian escaped from his home town with his Greek Cypriot wife Despina [ nee -Nikolaidis ] by ship to Alexandria ,Egypt . His Greek in -laws persuaded Nighogos to change his name and citizenship to Greek . So he became Nicholas Papadopoulos. For years I though our family was from Smyrna but more recently my mother told me that my fathers people came from what was once Cilicia. ellie gotfredson Armenian people are native to Armenian Highlands, they are mixture of Indo-Europeans and Hurrians (Urartu / Ararat kingdom), Armenian language is a separate branch of Indo-European language. About the Armenian prehistory you can read here, especially the entrance, just a short and objective, informative passage. You’ve truly historian spirit; the time and energy, the commitment to chronicle principles to include the ever present and vital story of the Armenians in your content when covering Anatolia and Caucuses, it is more often than not, omitted from channels claiming historical devotion. Such a presence and force cannot be left out and yet be remotely accurate depiction of history of this entire area stretching from the Caspian to the Mediterranean, and below to the holy land.

I really like these medieval Armenian videos and your videos in general are very well produced and are really interesting(your video about the Scythians is one of the best imo) Also your take on Georgian history would pretty damn interesting i think, since in the medieval times all the various feuding Georgian princedoms and Kingdoms united into a single strong Georgian kingdom that was a regional power in the Caucasus and in the near east from the late 11th to 13th centuries.

And, the more one digs into the un-falsified ancient history of the Armenians, the more they'll understand who the 'Hittites' were & what is meant by 'Lords of the Mountains'.

I have been collecting Cilician Silver and bronze coins, many of them I acquired from reputable sellers on ebay which I have authenticated. Its fascinating to hold a coin that was used by the people of the last Armenian kingdom. One of my most interesting coins on an overstrike coin which was part of the annual payment of hundreds of thousands of silver coins paid to the Mamluks after losing a war. Its an Armenian coin that was heated and overstruck with Arabic writing because it was easier and cheaper then melting and making new blanks. If this coin could talk the stories it would tell, I can imagine it on a horse and carriage making its way south to the Mamluk Arabs to pay their tribute.

Completely agree with you. Armenia was a buffer zone between Muslems and Byzantines at that time. Armenia was already fighting in the east and Byzantines thought the moment is right to attack them from behind and capture Ani and turn Armenians into Greeks...Well, we know what happened next...

I've done my national service at that region. I've watched Sis castle lots of time. It was a pure pleasure to be there... Thanks for mention, it worth;) Btw, seljuk population did not pour onto anatolia. They converted anatolian population mainly. Turkey Turks are mainly long converted Armenians and Ions.

Saint Joseph Yes it did. The islamified turkic people that fought the once great abassid caliphate either migrated trought the muslim regions and served as either mercenaries or autonomosly invaded and settled anatolia , after manziquert it got real serious. They would either force the local populations to flee or if they were opressed or enslaved with turkic men taking by force greek or armenian wives or put them in harems. the males children or adults were killed or Enslaved. By the times that the turks conquered western anatolia the natives had nowhere to run, that's why the turks from western turkey have só many greek/anatolian blood.

Also, we forget the Kipchaks and the Cumans who were Christian Turks that settled in the area way before the Seljuks. You are right, Anatolian Turks are maybe 10% Turkic. Their ethnicity is closer to Kurds, Persians and Armenians.

Fucking liar, check the gedmatch autosomal and y-dna results of Anatolian Turks. They are mostly N, R1a-z93, J2a(Central Asian Sub-branch). They are married with native anatolian girls. Also in the gedmatch most Turks get results like 45-55% Central Asian and the rest is Native Anatolian.

thats how u do research hahahaha ...he said Seljuk Turks did not pour lol ... it was even before Seljuk Turks... abbasid arabs made an agreement with some Turk familoes and hired them as money paid soldiers and placed them in the wrstern front which was anatolia... eastern part of anatolia..and together with the Seljuk Turks....an immediate migration conquring took place... today most of armenians carry Turk dna...
