I would have thought so too, but it was actually written by Lola Jean Dillon and L. E. White. The song was on Loretta's and Conway's "Honky Tonk Heroes" Album released in 1978, Loretta didn't have a single writing credit and Conway only had one song "I've Already Loved You In My Mind".

Hey Texas Girl!! In my early videos I explain that I didn't like country until about ten years ago, since I was a rock dude. I grew up on Zeppelin, Skynyrd, Clapton, then got into the Clash and other edgy bands. But eventually I opened myself up to trying to understand why so many people LOVE country, and after hearing a Billy Dean song ("You Don't Count The Cost"), I was like, "damn, this is BEAUTIFUL." So about ten years after hearing that song, along with the influence of Skynyrd and the Allman Brothers, I got an Alan Jackson CD, a Merle CD, and a couple others. After that, country was almost all I've listened to, but I got into mostly contemporary country--Joe Nichols, Miranda (she's still probably my favorite artist in any genre), Brad Paisley, Billy Currington, Easton Corbin, Alan Jackson, Frankie Ballard, and so on. But when I started the channel I started getting requests for artists I'd never heard of since they were red-dirt country, outlaw country, along with some western stuff. The stories and the edge in those songs and those artists few my soul in a way that makes it hard to go back to anything "poppy," but my love for the artists I mentioned in this post is still there. So now I like some of the stuff coming out of Nashville, but I love the artists that are just true to themselves and to what they want to sing, without prettying things up to sell more albums.

RockN2Country Thank you so much for sharing. Music is my escape. I had older siblings so I was fortunate to be exposed to the great Rockers of the 60’s, 70’s and I was a child of the 80’s. I raised my children to love it all and they are a walking music trivia game as I am. LOL. I scream facts at my iPad constantly. Love old Country...new? Some is just too... Love Keith Urban! In closing, let me share a story and hopefully I will see the video. By now, I’m sure you’ve heard of the Outlaws, Waylon, Willie, Johnny, Merle & Hank JrThey were the Outlaws because they did not dress in suits (we’re going back to the 70’s), did not listen to Nashville’s Fat Cats and did their thing. Sold out shows but didn’t win awards...Nashville’s a fight! Hell, I’ve seen Keith Urban 6 times, the best live show you will EVER see and he’s just now winning awards after 25 years. Don’t waste your time or money on Garth, he’s a Chris LeDoux poser and lip sync...I digressed. I want to introduce you to an amazing talent from the 70-80’s that fought for years to get radio play because he was not Country enough...too much electric guitar, his piano playing was too rock and his long hair....oh my! It’s Ronnie Milsap, freaking awesome. Oh, and he’s blind. Look up original video for “Stranger in my house”. Again, love your style! Thank you.

I don't think there will ever stop being speculation about her and Conway either; they just worked so well together.

No they weren't. They were the best of friends and awesome duet partners. Loretta married Oliver "Doolittle" "Mooney" Lynn when she was 14
