If you’re a dude this isn’t…this is an L take
@JacyndaMinor
@JacyndaMinor Ай бұрын
@@mopnemI disagree somewhat, I think it’s only an L take if you’re not bettering yourself afterwards. I mean, quitting a job without a backup and being susceptible to influence on such a level that you make rash decisions isn’t ideal, but if you’re engendering a protective need to provide guidance and encouragement from strangers, that can be a strength. Only if you’re smart about it, you can find mentorship and success through those relationships - otherwise you just go through life draining people who see potential in you until you ultimately take too much and they never want to see you again. I’ve always inspired hostility from higher ups though, so what do I know !

@@JacyndaMinor how do you know how much to take in situation where you are being mentored? Your comment sounds very wise and resonated with me.
@JacyndaMinor
@JacyndaMinor Ай бұрын
@@anna-fleurfarnsworth104 well thanks for that! I’d say you should only accept, not take, from mentors. And it should be mostly information, and volunteered by them. So if your mentor is any good, you should be able to ask them what kind of a trajectory they see for you. Where they think you should focus your energies. See if there’s a timeline, a goal, that they’ve got in mind they’ll be trying to reach with you. Sometimes a mentor is a sparse, but lifelong relationship that you only work with for a short time at initially and then every 6 years or so you call them up and ask for their advice on a big decision. I think the key here is to not waste their time. Not to ask them to do any unnecessary or extra steps to help you, like read a contract or look at a huge list of options and help you decide. If they tell you to read a book, read the book before you ask them for help with the subject the book was on. If they refer you to some system or resource for clarification, do what they said before you ask them another related question. Often people will have many mentors in their life, for different areas of development/expertise/access. I think it’s best to open with a simpler question, yet not something so simple you could’ve just googled it. More of like, a prep question that’s gonna help you know where to go from there. This is the biggest issue I see with younger people trying to get some advice or wisdom lately, they tend to completely breeze past all of the existing, applicable places that would just answer the question and they choose to waste the time of an expert demanding answers to redundant or asinine questions. My husband and I have this knowing look we exchange when I am handed some rando’s sketchbook. As an artist, I get more brand spanking new artists coming up to me telling me that they love my art, and then just shoving their drawings in my face immediately. Dude- I have never, not once, asked someone I looked up to to look at my drawings, paintings, anything. And these fools are handing me full sketchbooks! lol I hope I been a little bit answered your question I got a little side tracked
