Sawyer's evil is revenge. He tells Kate that he has a revenge to complete. By letting the boar go, he is letting go of his evil. The golden retriever represents comfort to Locke's mom. The boar represents Sawyer's freedom from revenge.

Interesting how, in the first 2 seasons, all the Charlie episodes are immediately followed by a Sawyer episode... and, with the exception of this pairing, are also then followed by a Sayid episode.

@@sebro7229 Of course... (SPOILER) . . . . . . . . . . . ... Claire never has another 'centric' episode after Season 3... though she really could've used one in the final season to fill in the blanks from when she abandons Aaron late in Season 4 to go off with the Smoke Monster (in the guise of her father) until we finally see her again at the beginning of Season 6. That and the time covering Walt's time in the Others' captivity are the 2 biggest narrative blanks with which the series left us -- well, along with full backstories for Libby, Charlotte, Frank, and Ilana.

Sawyer is my favourite character, so I was very excited for this episode! Your reaction did not disappoint. I love the combination of humour and genuine strong emotion that Josh Holloway is able to project, often within the same scene.

I think what this episode does so well is that it gives us so much more insight into Sawyer's behavior in the first few episodes of the show, and especially the first episode centered around him. It's clear that his actions of lying and to let the torture happen is because he hated himself so much that he just wanted to die basically, he even tries to anger Jack by saying if the tables were turned he'd watch him die because that's what he wanted for himself in a sense because of guilt.

It used to be called Gulf War Syndrome, followed by Shell Shock. The term PTSD didn’t become common until the 80s

Gulf War Syndrome was unexplained physical AND mental issues experienced by coalition service members after just 50 days of fighting. Recent study determined it to possibly be from Sarin chemical agents being released during ordinance disposal and destructions of Iraqi munitions.

This is why I love rewatching Lost, no matter how many times you rewatch it, you pick up on new things. I just picked up on the fact.. Locke never had any sister nor did he really have a mother figure. But man that goes to show how Locke is a great liar, just straight up made up a deep story like that on the spot. I can see why they might have initially wanted Locke to end up being a villain, but I'm really glad in the end, he wasn't and that he's just a really good guy.

I feel so proud every time Eric says, “Get your finger off the trigger.” As someone who knows guns too, I always do that when I watch movies and TV.

It annoys me every time I see it (which I guess is a good thing) but I have to remind myself that its done because the character in question is ignorant of gun handling. And from personal experience, I have seen grown adults that should know better act really fucking dumb with firearms, including barrel sweeping me. So.. its hard to be surprised by stupidity of characters when its so very accurate to reality.

Man, Terry O'Quinn is such an amazing actor. When he tells the story about his sister, his mom, and the dog, you actually forget that this is an actor doing his lines written by some writer in a TV series. You don't doubt for a second that this is a true story this man is telling YOU, right through the fourth wall.

Holy shit. I've loved your all's videos for a long time (found you by watching Nintendo Direct reactions via Ragged Knowledge's masterful compilations), but Rick drawing a parallel between Sawyer's tragic-yet-ridiculous plot in this episode and Swery's storytelling in his games takes it to a whole new level. This might legit be what gets me to throw in as a Patron. Great reaction, great series, great channel.

Curious to know whether anyone has an explanation for that story Locke made up about the dog and his dead sister. As we know, Locke never knew his parents and was raised in foster care. I’ve always wondered whether that scene was just a huge writing error or whether we’re supposed to assume Locke is lying?

He was probably talking about his foster mom and sister. Kids raised in foster home often call their foster parents mom and dad.

There's an episode later on where Richard goes to visit young John Locke and they show that he has a sister in his foster family. I'm assuming that is the family he was referring to in this.

I totally relate with the Grandad stories, I stabbed myself nearly through the hand while cooking burgers one time. I finished making the burgers, ate, then went to hospital where I waited for 2 hours then said “Fuck it” and just went home lol.
