As far as I’m concerned, this was all about purgatory. They had to go through pain, fear and suffering, to get to the light.. That is how I will always see this show. The later part of the series truly “Lost” its way.

The really cool thing is how subjective Lost is, and how apparently unintentional that subjectivity is. There was some kind of happenstance magic that occurred between the different plotlines that were too convoluted, dropped, handed off to different supervision, improvised, and all the other ways the story spaghetti-fys. Theres enough random tid bits and loose motiffs to feed into any personal interpretation or meaning.

You know why I love the internet? I woke up this morning thinking about a TV show I used to watch a decade ago. That show was a little complicated, and I wondered what stuff I missed when I watched it. I search for an explained video, and here it is. Now I got my entertainment for the next little while sorted out. Thanks, my guy, you have made my day,.

Your critical reading of the show like a text is logically sound, well-supported, and a great service to Lost fans. So many complained about the ending for not spoon-feeding them a holistic explanation of the plot and every one of its finer points. In doing so they ignored the complexity of its narrative and rich philosophical themes. You exhibit here how the show endures in the minds of fans precisely because of its complexity and themes - and as one who feels the world is somehow lesser with the show off the air, I have faith it will return in some form in the future.

Lost was an absolute treasure! I remember getting on the message boards after every episode aired to discuss, speculate, explain, predict, etc. And so many times since Lost, other show writers tried to replicate the charm Lost had. It was lightening in a bottle. Glad there's still folks out there keeping Lost alive

This video also made me realize that in season 1 when locke is looking out at the ocean through jacks eyes were meant to see him as crazy and a “nutter” according to charlie, but then much later in the series we see Jack staring out into the ocean the same way Locke was. He was just enlightened much earlier.

LOST is the only show that I keep rewatching again and again. And everytime I watch it I notice something that I didn’t notice before. It’s the only show that makes me care about so many of the characters. In my opinion it’s completely unique and it almost feels like a personal experience watching it. I don’t have a top 10 favorite tv shows (because it would probably rorate and constantly change) but I do have a top 1, nothing else comes close for me.

Finally someone making a explanation that is about the mystery and the mythology. Most fans still latch on to "lost was about the journey and the characters" because they still dont know what the island is. Even I didn't perceive most of this in my multiple viewings, cause they are never explicit in the show.

A part of me, just a part, can't believe Cuse and Lindelof don't want to build on what they've created. There are so many ways to expand and fill in the future and history of the Island without actually compromising Lost.

excellent work -- I recently finished watching Lost and naturally had a ton of questions. The series deserves more credit than I initially gave it credit for and this video really shows why. I was particularly interested in the sci-fi aspects of the series, which were very much secondary. I only wish the series could have incorporated what this video shows.
@LOSTEXPLAINED108

I get what you mean! Although I think the breadcrumbs are all there; I derive most of my explanations directly from the text or connect dots that the text presented to us. But the show had to strike an uneasy balance between being a show for hardcore mythology nerds like me and for audiences who were more interested in the love triangles and character drama. So, the show couldn't go all in on making it about the metaphysics and mythology. A lot of the concepts I touch upon in this video would not be palatable to the more casual viewer. I think the writers mostly got the balance right, but could have made more efforts to spell out a few details for posterity's sake.
@rahul--12

@@LOSTEXPLAINED108 Yes I agree -- the show had to strike a balance and it leaned more toward love triangles and character development, yet the sci-fi / mythology aspects were far more interesting to me. You can see the show's creators tried to explain the concept of the island many times. It's great that you've pulled them all out. It's a good theory too. I like that "the light" is essentially some being that gives life to dead planets and in some way is the life of the planet. Using planets like hosts in a way.

These videos are so good and I appreciate the effort you put into them. They also remind me of the endless discussions (Dark UFOs website anyone?) that were had during the torturous wait between seasons, between episodes, when the show would have a couple episodes and then take 2 weeks off, off a month for winter break and how 99% of the discussions turned out to be wrong 😂. It was so fun reading and discussing virtually everything and it’s now just as fun to have very well thought out ideas and explanations about what the show was all about in these videos.

@@LOSTEXPLAINED108 I most likely read them then. Were some awesome theories on there that were way more elaborate and interesting than what the show presented but overall I was very happy with what the writers did and how it all ended. Feel sad for the people that didn’t enjoy the ending because it taints a great show to them but different strokes for different folks no one is right or wrong with how they feel about the show or how it ended. It was kind of a double edged sword going to DarkUFO all the time because they would have spoilers via set pictures, who was filming and stuff like that but I was so obsessed I couldn’t help myself.
@LOSTEXPLAINED108
@LOSTEXPLAINED108 Жыл бұрын
I agree. Feel bad for those that came away from the show feeling cheated or letdown. It’s a very subjective thing, how we feel about a story and how it ends, and what it adds up to. I remember feeling a bit indifferent about Across the Sea when it first aired (which I think is the real episode that split the fanbase at the time, more so than The End), but it took me another rewatch of the show to appreciate that episode and how it fits into the canon and explains everything. I always felt that some of the more aggrieved fans might look more kindly on the last season and the show in general if they gave it another whirl. But I don’t begrudge those who came away with gripes generally speaking. Part of the reason for this channel was to offer people a more comprehensive look back at what the show was trying to convey, in the hopes it might help them see the overall series in a more positive light.

What a terrific video! I am impressed not only by your mastery of video editing, but by the excellence of your analysis. Very well done indeed. My analysis is different from yours, but that does not detract in any way from my enjoyment of your very evidence-based perspective on the series. If you've read my stuff, you know I follow more of a faith-grounded interpretation of events, even though my training is in hard science (35+ years as a pharmaceutical R&D chemist). Regardless of the fact that we interpret events in sometimes quite different ways, we reach some of the same conclusions. If I understand your interpretation of the cork, for instance, I believe we find agreement that corking the Island was more of a positive fulfillment than 'corking' or imprisonment of evil, though obviously the MIB was imprisoned on the Island due to the power of the light. I can't tell you how much I truly enjoyed this video! There is so much garbage out there about LOST. It's hard to find the good stuff. Your contribution is definitely top-shelf. The only reason I began writing about LOST (I was featured writer at both SL-Lost.com and Dark UFO in the final season) was that the only thing available online at the time (2004-2010) were 'recaps', which simply regurgitated what had happened the night before. This was so utterly inadequate! LOST begs for analysis, and that's what you are providing here, and what I attempted to provide in my six books on LOST. Even 12 years later, I have discovered nothing on television matching the depth of LOST. GoT and now HotD have attracted more viewers, but the shows lack LOST's depth. Something can definitely be said for GoT's development of ASoIaF's preoccupation with the marginalized, what I call in my GoT analyses 'The Sisterhood of the Damned'; the theme is deep and worthy of detailed analysis. Even so, LOST remains far richer in subtext and depth of expression than even ASoIaF ever attains--and certainly D&D pretty much destroyed GoT in the last two seasons. Here's hoping GRRM can rescue his creation in The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring. I very much look forward to future installments of your analysis, and I recommend the series to all. Nicely done! Pearson Moore 2022.

Wonderfully and thoroughly explained. Thank you for all this effort. As well-acted and produced the show was, I wish they dedicated a few episodes to diving into explanations such as thia video's. I would have found it far more interesting than some of latter episodes, and it would have put everything into perspective and logic, which would have made the finale more understandable and meaningful.

The writers said they want the fans to keep coming up with theories on the answers. That's what's so great about the show, you are still learning new answers after all this time

I would recommend finishing the show first and then coming back to watch the explanations as my videos spoil the entire show, especially the ending.

They dropped hints in the show using dialog and objects. Ben was told to read a book again. The book was V.A.L.I.S. by Philip K. Dick. That one clue alone, besides others, made me think the island was either truly alive , or some ancient, sentient machine. Still operating.
