LOTR bloopers: They were PUSHED to their limits while running in these scenes!

The Lord of the Rings trilogy prioritized doing things for real instead of faking it in a studio on green screen, resulting in demanding the actors to run for real while the scenes were filmed from helicopters. Orlando Bloom (Legolas), Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn), and Brett Beattie (the scale double for Gimli) ran across diverse landscapes while helicopters tracked them, creating intense behind-the-scenes moments.

John Rhys-Davies said that he really felt sorry for Brett, because he was carrying a lot of extra weight due to Gimli's armor..in reality, John is even taller and Orlando Bloom. On close-ups when you see him "standing" between Orlando and Aragon, he is on his knees. :)

They did it while they were injured (by their own will as they didn't want to hold up the shoot). Viggo Mortensen broke two toes when he kicked the helmet at the pyre when Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli think that Merry and Pippin were dead. Orlando Bloom had fallen off his horse during the Warg Fight and broke some of his ribs, and Brett Beattie had dislocated his knee. Peter Jackson called the three The Walking Wounded.

@TheHardyGamesOfficial In the story, yeah but they didn't shoot it in script order. The shot the pyre scene before they did the running through Rohan. Filming out of sequence is common as it's practical for many reasons.

Ah yes. They had a stand in for the Dwarf. Of course they did. One thing about being in the Marines and hiking up the sides of hills is - yeah - everything you are carrying weights a lot ... .

This is one of the many reasons why The Hobbit movies SUCKED by comparison. Very little CG overall in LOTR vs nothing but CG in The Hobbit.
