I finally gave Love You a chance and I wasn’t disappointed. It’s truly the final Beach Boys masterpiece ❤

Love You has been my favorite Beach Boys album (next to Surf's Up) for about 3 years now. There's just nothing like it!

I think the hidden meaning of Johnny Carson is that it's about Capitol Records and how they wanted Brian and the Beach Boys to churn out hits like Carson churned out episodes for NBC.

I think it was Brian acknowledging how difficult it is to be consistent performer in show business

Brian knew the pressure of being the creator of the family business that supported his family brothers and extended families and pressure to produce hit after hit albums after album all those years ..Carson made it look so easy..I think he paid homage to his consistently

I never really felt 15 Big Ones to be much of a successor to Holland. To me, Pacific Ocean Blue feels like a truer spiritual successor to Holland. And, what a successor at that! Really, I love the artfulness of both these albums, and both rank roughly top five for me among Beach Boys and Beach Boys related albums. Thoughts of You from POB always hit pretty hard for me. What a beautiful song. This song actually kind of help teach me the power of the major seven chord, how this chord paints a spacey, yearning, and mildly dissonant sound... what a cool combination of qualities to meld together. The rawness and beauty of POB make it a record I'm confident I'll always cherish.

wow, nicely put :) I love your details and I love maj7 chords too!

The song Ding Dang was recycled as part of Brian Wilson's collaboration with daughter Carnie and Rob Wasserman on a song called Fantasy is Reality/Bells of Madness from the album Trios

Around this time, I think the Beach Boys sang back up on Chicago's hit song, Wishing You Were Here. I'm wondering if you could do a show based on collaborations?

'77 was a PIVOTAL year in rockNroll w/ the Ramones picking up where the Beach Boys left off; Love you was their LAST brilliant piece of music & P.o.b was/is classic esp the song "what's wrong".

The drawn-out slow sections are the best part of POB

No I think I Wanna Pick You Up is about your kid, when they're not a baby anymore and are a toddler. Brian was writing really literally around this time to boot.

and in retrospect I think you and Adam are right - I'm tuned so much to the music, a lot of BB lyrics or messages in songs have defied me because I haven't thought of them enough

Brian said in an interview that it was not about an actual baby, but rather treating your girlfriend/wife as if she were a baby.

Adult/Child is AFTER "Love You"...it should have been released but was rejected by the label+Mike Love+Al Jardine (same old story..Smile Style....) it was 90% complete as you can hear in a lot of bootlegs or songs released in the followin' years in boxes/compilations...it was a real masterpiece according to me, with magic songs like "Still I Dream Of It", "It's Over Now", "Life is For The Living". as always the "FormulaMan Mike Love won the management battle and the result is, ladies & gentlemen: "MIU", one of the worst BB records....the worst at that point!! make a video about the years after Love You and the Adult/Child story, the 2nd Brian Wilson lost masterpiece :(
