I've been waiting for this video. I always liked vaggie a lot less after learning about how she's supposed to be based off of a moth and I can now never look at her without disappointment. I know it's petty but I love moths. I'm literally writing a book on a moth character I made and I was drawing him right before I got the video notification. (he's based off of a southern flannel moth. super cute bugs) so I can't wait to see your take on the design!

One of the biggest criticisms of Hazbin Hotel's art back when it first came out was "too much red." Sooo, why redesign two of the main characters to have more red? I have no way of knowing what the backgrounds will look like, but it's still an odd choice.

The only thing I'm glad about was that she didn't have a bow. I actually loved her re-design. I will disagree with that, but I can understand your hate for her design. I still, and STILL wish she added some fluff, or her hair should have been more moth-like!

She would've looked SO cool with little moth antennas and pretty wings! they could've ATLEAST added the antennas.

The darker red, or wine color as your roomate described, makes me think of Vaggie jumping around in the shadows of the hotel looking for something suspicious, and maybe thanks to her hair shape (in your design), People would see her jumping as a giant moth flying around the Hotel, wouldn't be surprised if Angel starts calling her "Hell's mothman" because patrons as scared of the moth demon flying in and out of the building.

After witnessing the Vaggie reveal, it made me realize that Vizi (or whoever was responsible for these redesigns) don't know anything about color cohesion or better design traits. It's bad enough that every character has to have red in there design no matter what in a already really red show (like seriously Viv, just because it takes place in hell doesn't mean that everything needs to be red) but they couldn't be bothered to actually change their design for the better for the sake of the fanbase not losing their heads (Alistair in particular peeves me off the most because of how little they actually changed him and debatably made it worse). How hard is it to give the main characters their own color palette with a theme? Smh

Love how you added more of the Moth aspect to Vaggie’s Re-redesign, it was one of things that drew me towards her character since I love moths and moth themed characters Absolutely phenomenal as always!

Vaggie reminds me of Disney's Elsa, in the way that her original character designs were unique and cool, and her final movie design is pretty normal and bland. I liked how her colors really stood out on a massively red and pink world. I like the show's color palette, but it's difficult to make it interesting without throwing some other tones here and there, and she helped. She was my favourite from the pilot and I hope a bland character design doesn't foreshadow a bland character writing.

I do agree with your points about Vaggie. She had many fun redesigns, but the red doesn't make sense. I do think if the red was more darker/grimmer to match her gothic tone or like her "original red". If it were up to me, I would keep her original design, but just limit the stripes on the boot/stocking things. Personally, I like your design, I think it could be animation friendly. I still like Vaggie, it's just I like her other designs more but that's just me. I get the reasons why thou, edit: i typed this not seeing her casual outfit you made, OMG the goth is real!! I like!! Also when you said to choose three things for your character when designing. Me: write that down, write that down!

The fact that you keep the McDonald’s hat on Vaggie sends me 😂 Also yes I 100% agree with her not looking like a moth like you don’t need to go overboard with it or anything I just need a couple more hints than justs her hair.

Characters based on moth are so fun to design in my opinion and you can do so much with them so it’s sad to see they didn’t do more with Vaggie

Aside from her blouse and the general color palette, I actually didn't really hate this design, but yours came out so cool! I'm a sucker for fangs so the allusion to bug mouthparts is awesome! I also love her uniform, the style feels like Alastor made everyone except Charlie a custom uniform and Vaggie would prefer something like her casual clothing (since before the hotel, she would have been accustomed to fighting in that) but Charlie would think it's absolutely gorgeous on her (and Angel would 100% be teasing her about it). I also love the idea that she'd put her hair up in a fight (it would probably make it easier to animate the canon design, too). I feel like her bow could have benefited from having fewer colors but I don't hate it! And I think her eyes are my favorite thing about your design, cause I always thought Vaggie should have a dark sclera with a brightly colored pupil. Overall really cute and fun and makes me love this badass moth even more (ooh and her uniform is very much giving looks like a cinnamon roll but could actually kill you and in Hell, that must be incredibly beneficial, to be able to take down enemies after making them underestimate you)! Also if they make Valentino look any less like a moth than he already does, I will be so annoyed 🤣 Like stick with your lore Viv lol

I also agree that her outfit ( the pilot and especially the newest deign ) wasn’t the best, to me it seems to generic and I think they could have made it unique and more her style. I’ve watched some videos of people talking about Vaggie’s past and how she died that are really interesting and could make a great design. Also another problem I have with some ( not all ) of Hazbin Hotel’s characters deigns are that they don’t really tell you how that character died or anything about them which is the whole point of the characters appearance, even some of the higher class demons have kind basic deigns that aren’t unique or tell you anything about the character, anyways great video I LOVE how you deigned Vaggie she looks so good 😊 EDIT: Her older deigns LOOK AMAZING 🤩 I’m really disappointed that the creators didn’t want to bring them back because it’s such a waste of good character deigns

That's the main issue I have with the look so far. Not the design (I think it's pretty cool) but the colors. Of course Hell is gonna be red cause it's hell, but having almost every character wear red. Idk man a little more variety in colors on the characters would be cool

10:53 while this is true,moths have scales not fur, the scales are not scales at all. They are actually more of a modified hair, so they are still fluffy. This is why big 'fluffy' moths look like they actually have long fur, because it is made up of more hairlike scales. The fluff actually has a use too, fluffy moths are usually deaf and have that long fur to absorb sound so they don't get eaten.

Im not gonna lie when the redesign dropped i had the same idea of it being the worst out of all of them and I saw the entire fanbase saying they loved it so its so nice to see someone who thinks the same and can finally give her the moth treatment she deserved ( coming from someone who doesn't like them lmao ) This is actually gorgeous though!!! I love the inclusion of the x's as buttons and how the x over her eye is a bit more subtle and under the bangs ( with her well deserved hairline lol ) plus would definitely give the animators a break cause I remember the x was so misshapen and inconsistent in the pilot because it was so confusing to the animators and the colours are literally perfect on this, going with a maroon was such a great move and the return of the pastels makes me so happy because that neon red is starting to drive me insane on these redesigns and vaggie is a prime example of them not needing it whatsoever pfft

I became a fan of Hazbin in late 2019-early 2020 and I loved the designs. I saw their redesigns and my heart sank. It just hurt my brain with the choices they made. I’m new to animation and the process but I’m pretty sure some of those are gonna be a pain in the ass to animate and it’s just..aghhh to look at 😂

Obviously im binge watching these and will indeed give my thoughts. I always thought it was weird how her being a moth had no effect on her design at all. Tbh i didnt know she was poc because well, like other designs like alastor also suffer from, her skin is gray, so i thought it was just a design choice. Obviously i know now but prior to that i thought the entire cast was white.

I absolutely adore your redesign of Vaggie! Like I'm honestly simping over your angel dust and Vaggie redesigns because they are that good! And I am gonna restate something I said from your Angel dusts redesign video, some of the redesign choices that the crew have made confused me. Like with Angel Dust, Vaggie's redesign got rid of some of the most memorable visual aspects of her. Mainly for style of outfit because Vaggie's design always followed an aesthetic theme but here it looks like she's just gotten off of her shift at a McDonald's. Plus another issue of mine is the fact that you can't tell that she is a moth demon. Like no joke I watched the Hazbin hotel pilot multiple times thinking that Vaggie was just a human looking demon before finding out that she was actually suppose to be a moth. And apparently her hair is suppose to match the pattern of a moth, but honestly it thought that Vaggie probably styled her hair to look like that. And what's disappointing is that they could've made a simpler design that also could've matched Vaggie aesthetic. Overall I have been disappointed with the last three redesigns and I hope that the last two redesigns don't end up with the same fate.

Your redesign of Vaggie is hot! I just have a thing for assassin/hunter characters especially when they look pretty and when they got scars going on. 💜

I can see this design work for her even with the reveal now of her being an Angel and I think she can still be moth themed with the mouth shape and when she was an exorcist cuz we have only seen one other person without a mask (not counting Adam) and if we assume that the exorcists are regular angels they were human at one point, died and went to heaven and Adam may have chosen them to be exorcists and give them new names. bringing this up as regular angel winners don't all look super "human" example is Molly Angel Dusts sister she has 4 legs. My point is even with the new information we have about Vaggie I still like this design for her.

Samee, I was kinda confused about her eye and didn't even notice she even had an eyepatch when I first saw her in the pilot, and kinda just thought the X just kinda replaced her eye? I didn't questioned it but always just wondered about it.

Vaggie's pilot desing was my favorite of among the cast, my eyes were always drawn to her, she stood out, but I didn't know she was a moth so I thought the crew would make that fact be more visible, but they only changed her hair a bit and put her in a uniform with the same red everyone else now has, she doesn't stand out as much anymore, your redesing (both this one and the updated one) represents better her character description and personality. Sorry for the rant and if this sounded weird, but Vaggie was always my favorite.

I really love how you incorporated more of the Moth into her design! Her design was probably the one besides like Alastor where it was a bit hard to even know what the heck they were from first glance and really the only moth aspect in the old design was like- The color palette? But I really love this one a lot!! Thinking now, Nifty's design seems like one that doesn't seem to need any changing cause her's is already pretty nice and friendly in animation, but oh boy, Husk's is the one that worries me the most out of all of them because of how complex his old design was but just thinking about how they'll change it, makes me not wanting to put expectations too too high. It's mostly the factor of, I hate how nearly ever redesign so far we've gotten from Viv has to have like- Red in it or Pink Not that it's a bad thing but could really be toned down so they don't fade into the background.(No ill will, Just something I've noticed) Stuff like this really makes me want to also do my take on their redesigns to what I wished they could of looked like but- don't know if I could cause My art style wouldn't ever be close to Viv's or in some form at all, So I'm not completely sure- 😅 But, I really like to watch when people do this and inspires me to get better at character design!

Wow, I love your redesign! I honestly wasn’t that upset by Vaggie’s redesign at first, but I do see your points about the new outfit being boring and too red. And honestly, making her outfit more historically inspired is such a missed opportunity, so yours was honestly so refreshing. Not to mention she does look way fiercer and more like she could fight in the new outfit.

gonna be honest, not once did i ever read "moth" from vaggie when i was obsessed with everything vivzie, I love your designs and how they tie actual elements about her character into her outfits. as well as her job, and her background. I appreciate that you actually take what viv writes down and apply it to the character, sometimes it feels like viv just adds certain aspects to characters without representing it fully in their design or development.

I love your design and this just feels right for her character. The other one was a bit too boring and honestly, I'm sick of the color red in almost everyone's redesign. I'm an artist myself so I can completely understand that the new ones have been, while decent looks, could be so much more.

I think the only reason vaggie is in the pirate ship is because it's right under Alastor's radio tower and she's protecting the hotel from him.

You really out did yourself on this design The scars more prove that she fought people to protect the hotel, the uniform looks more proper for guarding and fighting movement since I don't think she can fight much with a tight skirt on and the pony tail helps that it doesn't get in the way too much, the the second still keeps the main traits of her old design with the two x's and eye in the center and having a more casual look to be able to relax from guarding and let her hair down. The color is done well with having a darker tone to compliment well with her hair and the few pink lines on it and different red shades with the uniform, I also like the bow being more like a moths antenna This has got to be my most favorite re-designs you done by far 🤩❤

It could be me, but a lot of the redesigns viv did feel like they were done to meet the assignment and weren't done because she wanted to. It was like she was put out that she had to redesign her characters so other animators could animate them because they weren't able to animate her as is designs. That's just the vibe I get. You know how something you do lessens in quality because you clearly didn't want to deal with it. Some of these redesigns were simplified in a way that would still make them difficult to animate - just less detailed. I mean look at the effort she did with past designs and reworks she wanted to do, and now look at the redesigns she HAD to do for the show? I wonder what they said for her to change compared to how it was executed? But thats just a feeling. I could be wrong. She probably isn't used to simplifying things- i struggle with that too. Aside from that, I adore how you made vaggie. Fashionable warrior of the hotel. Good on making two outfits, I like. Her outfits have such personality and I love how you added more "moth" into veggie herself. Because the last two designs she had , had moth themes about it as subtle as still air. (As in you font notice it until someone points it out.) Becauee as I said before, I looove moths. And I love how you made her casual outfit a nod to her previous designs. I liked her first design with the cape, so I am glad you hinted at the purple. Love the new bow too. The hair is awesome too,, I like how you went about it. When i saw vaggies cannon re design on Twitter, i was personally disappointed as well. But, when i saw your re design of her, i was blown away! It's so good! I loved how you gave her two outfits as well. Vaggie is my favorite character out of the hazbin hotel cast, and i really wished that viv would do a good job with her re design. Just my personal opinion, she didn't do a nice job, and i wish that this was her canon design. But i guess that we can't get everything in life.

OMG I love it!!! Vaggies clothes here fits so well to her character with all the details and new colors. Her hair is absolutely amazing and fits more to the moth-theme by looking like wings. It really makes her resemble a moth way better. (I also love the new bow design you gave her, which also is more with the moth-style). Her face is not to angry and not too happy. Therefore it makes her serious in a perfect way that again fits to her style and character. Overall Vaggie looks way more like a demon now than she ever have. Good job. I wish vivziepop would hire you. You are very creative😁

Kinda of like Kocho Shinobu's hair accessorie (demon slayer character) There was nothing really wrong with the redesign but it didn't give me huge Vaggie vibes and also I loved how you drew the hair and the feet they look awesome! The biggest problem I have with the redesigns are the colour palattes, while I'm not a professional I do know that it's incredibly important that when designing a group of characters, it's important for them to have their own colour palatte for each character. By having all the characters have promptly red in their designs as well as the shoe having a mostly red colour pallate, it can cause the characters to blend in not just with each other but the backgrounds as well Not only that but the designs seem in general to be a lot more complicated, from Angels two different coloured gloves and spots to Vaggies hair to whatever is going on with Husk's designs, it would look like a pain to animate I wanna make it clear that I'm not trying to attack Vivziepop or anyone who works on the show, I have a lot of respect and the fact a indie show was able to be picked up to make a full series is truly inspiring, but I do think it's still fair to criticise stuff you enjoy and you can still like it

I love your redesign so much! At first seeing Vaggie’s new design that Viv made I saw no issue but then things started to make less sense, like how it’d be difficult to fight in a skirt, and how the red blouse just didn’t fit her aesthetic at all. I really love your redesign for her, and I like the more bug-like elements to it! It would have been cool if you had given her two scythes or knives though to defend herself with, as moths have mandibles they will sometimes use in a last ditch effort to defend themselves I thought it would be neat if weapons could be alluded to being used as mandibles. Otherwise really cool design! I adore the colors and aesthetic you gave her!
