My guy gave me a little exercise that will help. Just dry firing, put an empty case on your slide or wherever there's a flat spot. Aim, squeeze the trigger until the hammer falls (or pin strikes) and that case should NOT fall off. If it does, the act of squeezing the trigger is moving your aim BEFORE the bullet leaves the gun. I did that just sitting on the couch "firing" at the TV. Did it until the empty case stayed upright. Next morning did it again for an hour then went to the range and live fire. Folks, the muscle memory will remain. Just try it. It worked wonders for me. It eliminates that flinch and anticipation when you pull the trigger.

@50StichesSteel

That's not a good exercise for pistols..That's something that people brought over from the rifle training and tried to make it work. It's a great training event to do, but doesn't work that way for pistols..Difference being that you do it for a rifle because it's a shot laying down in the prone and you have the rifle supported by bipod, tripods, sandbags, etc...Then you put the dowel rod down the barrel and put the dime on the rod..So the only movement you get is from the trigger squeeze. The dime or washer falls off the rod if you jerk the trigger..With pistols you have no support for the firearm so you could drop the bullet case just from arm movements instead of focusing on just the trigger action

If you consistently shoot a tight pattern, regardless of group placement, then the problem is with your sights, not your grip.
@pickledcottoncandy
@pickledcottoncandy 4 ай бұрын
Wrong. That just means your mechanics are consistent. You can "squeeze" the gun consistently instead of pressing the trigger which results in. I shoot good groups consistently, BUT they are slight low and slightly left. My sights are on, I am just struggling with not torqueing my hand when engaging the trigger.

EXCEPT when your sights are actually off from the factory! My last Glock 43 and the last Sig P320 both required the sights to be drifted out of the box. You could visibly see how far off the front sight of the Sig was. It had been over inserted into the dovetail. On the Glock the rear sight was under inserted. I have other pistols from both of those companies that were flawless but sometimes guns are assembled on Friday afternoon guys!

Very good policy with the laser. I just bench rest my carry ammo and do 2 or 3 five shot groups. Then drift the sight appropriately. Then never think of it again. It’s just weird though recent I’ve had two brand new guns in the past year that were both visibly way off. Factory elevation was perfectly fine but dang when your front sight isn’t even lined up with the barrel there is a problem.

Sometimes the firearm isn't shooting straight. I had a G22 gen4 issued to me in 2014, it was hitting very far left. The rep came out and test fired it. We found it was hitting 2-3 inch left at 10 yards. That was a manufacturing defect. Not two different shooters getting the same result. Thank you for making a video about this. I shoot low and to the left a lot (often with good grouping) and have been working on more drills to stop. I know adjusting the sights off zero isn’t the solution. What’s the biggest thing you’re seeing that’s causing shots low and to the left (something commonly off in the grip, compensating sight wrong in dominant eye, etc.)?

Until you get that pistol that made it to the shelf that mechanically shouldn't have and no matter how many people (right and left handed) that test it the shots still all go to the same side. I've seen it before (ironically in a glock). Went left no matter who shot, large sample size too including dominant hand, single hand and supported, as well as a large skill level spread. Shot a different pistol and everybody was dead on centerline again. Sometimes, on rare occasion, it actually is the gun. But thats why its important to test and vet tools.

I'm calling you out on this cock & bull about low & left and it's shooting technique. The only pistol I had issues with was a G43X that shot low & left. I had my rear sight moved off to one side. Got tired of that. Had a gunsmith check it out for frame deflection. He just used front sight and the pistol shot well. So, I moved my sight back to original and finally decided my trigger pull needed work. A Ghost connector solved my issue. The 5½ lb. trigger pull changed marginally to 4½ lb. But, the travel & break were greatly improved and solved my issue. And, i installed a Viridian green dot which helped even more. If all my pistols shot low & left I'd say it was me. But, it was only the glock.

it will shoot to the right if you are left handed, however sometime the sights are not centered. In that case they need to be moved. The term used is "milking the gun". There are several techniques to help remedy this and it depends on the firearm and your handsize, what you ate for breakfast and a myriad of other things. Try a lot of them and see what works for you. Practice, practice, practice. Peace and Grace. One more thing to add, CCW's are not fashion choices. You may need a smaller gun in summer depending on body size and where you live and other factors. Do not just switch out your carry because you are in a .40S&W mood, or a 10mm mood. Or I have not carried this fancy expensive one in a while. Pick one that work and train with it. The old saying, "Beware the man that only owns one gun, he can probably shoot it very well!" Peace and Grace again.

Its trigger pull that usually causes low to left for a rightie. Many times, it is because the trigger pull is too fast and that moves other fingers and the hand. When you practice shooting focus on a relaxed simple but strong isolated trigger finger pull. Pull straight back not down and back. It helps.

Just think about what will happen if you have to use a gun with its sights aligned correctly. Suddenly you'll think that one's broken. I think this happens sometimes because a person can't tell whether the consistent disparity in where they arr aiming and where it hits is causes by themselves or the firearm. Will be good to hear some tips on how to tell the difference, but I do see some of those in the comments.

I shoot to the left of center about 2 inches. It is a self problem...and I know what it is....My ironsights used to be right on...still likely are. Problem is my eyes aren't. If your sights are set correctly and you hit center every time, but then you injure your dominate eye...and you shoot with both eyes open.......your eyes will focus differently with one strong eye and one weak eye. Now I could get glasses or have some surgery on my once dominate eye, but have put it off for years. So now if I want to hit center I shoot 2 inch to the right...works every time. As far as your gun shooting where your sights are pointing...maybe...I'm not sure....but I do know that sights aren't always adjusted correctly. I even had a muzzle loader where the rear sight was not tapped at the 12 upright location on the barrel...weird...maybe a jig shifted in manufacturing. You could adjust that sight all you wanted to and never hit. The manufacturer took it back and sent me a new weapon.

I was taught that it’s not just my trigger finger that I have to control but also the three fingers that grip the pistol in addition to the trigger finger. That when we pull the trigger in addition to the trigger finger these fingers also contract sympathetically thus rolling the pistol slightly left and down. Once again it takes lots of dry fire to correct this. This is done by dry firing with one hand index and thumb only and keeping the pistol rock steady. You have to pull the trigger straight back and not contract the three other fingers.

Proper pistol mechanics, prep your trigger with one finger independently, press to the wall( know your wall- dry fire only on the days you breath) and then exhale while breaking the wall. On your next shot, release the trigger only up until the reset(know your reset) then, your trigger is prepped again. Rinse and repeat.

Look up Dan Bilzerian on the internet. He is candid and honest what it takes to get jacked quickly and stay that way. He doesn’t hide behind some bullshit supplements that do very little.

Shoot a group with your off hand and eye. Do you still hit left? If so. Then maybe move the sights.

OK, I’m going to show my ignorance. But are we saying that the location of the rear sight has no impact on where the gun shoots right or left, but that no matter where the rear sight is positioned if you aren’t on target it’s you and not the sight needing adjusted ?

I won't purchase from Warrior Poet Society Anymore. Paid over a hundred for the ankle IFAK and some of the pouches were too small for the items and none of the Velcro straps were long enough to secure the CAT (tournequit) device. So lost the tournequit while wearing kit on a long travel. I'm a veteran and wanted to support John cause he's a veteran business owner but am very disappointed by his product. Never again. Lesson learned, past burned. ♣

Sight picture and trigger pull. Heard it over and over in 26 years in LE. Low and left…sight picture and trigger pull. Some listened.

So true. I just had training for this over the weekend and was told exactly the same thing said by Paul. It's all in sight alignment, grip and trigger press AND PRACTICE.... Thanks for the video!

My friend insist that it’s a problem with the red dot and is sending his pistol back the Kimber. He refuses to stand and hold the pistol correctly. I just confirmed that his red dot is spot on with my Laserlyte. He insist on shooting at 15 yards and the target looks like Swiss cheese

I had a .44 sturm ruger rifle that was bent to the left. It was bent, darn it. Just how life works. No one could shoot it straight but me, myself and I. That will be all.

Personally I've noticed it is recoil anticipation and gripping too strong with the shooting hand. Once my nerves go away for the most part, my hits start to center up. Not where I want to be but I just will practice more. Stay safe 🇺🇸
