Much like the first Draft Kingdom video, I don't know what to think while making this one. It has been edited/cut down from the four hours where it was done live on stream on August 21st. I finally had the energy to do a long discussion on drafts/items/why "simple" explanations to viewers isn't really practical on breaking things down that happen within the game. This is a total overview of the series that day and a lot of thought processes I use, as well as patterns that are very clearly demonstrable and/or are displayed in many other games, but are absent in League. It also covers why Itemization and Rune choice allows deeper access to knowing where problems may be and why fixing them isn't so simple.

In general DK seems to be a team that isnt scared of doing creative things. Like how they two man took baron in EDG game 5 or some of their drafts in general. When they have their backs against the wall (like when playing against teams they dont think are beatable by standart stuff) they actually become realy creative unlike other teams that just try to somehow outplay even if they are BRO vs GenG. Sure it doesnt work out, they didnt win against GenG in spring nor T1 in summer, but if they keep up the creativity while also improving as players in general, they may become world contenders next year again. Or maybe they ramp up and make it to semi-finals or finals at world. They show promise in that regard beyond just hand-diffing their enemies.

You've managed to express why I love games in a way that I was never able to verbalize, and i'm really grateful for that. I agree, that optimizations, and strategy, and testing, theorycrafting, are an artform, and they are what make games beautiful to me. I understand that these kinds of videos, and your work in the scene, are endless and exhausting, and mentally taxing. But just knowing that someone else gets it, they get why shaving off tiny portions of a second in mario 1 is so incredible, they understand why finding incremental improvements that all lead to something great is what makes games and game theory fascinating, they understand why minmaxing and theory is exciting and beautiful in a way that nothing else can be. Just knowing that somebody else gets these things, that i'm not alone in thinking this way, is something that I will be endlessly grateful to you for verbalizing, and for putting yourself out there to say. I wish you all the best, and I hope that you're able to find a balance that lets you continue to work in the scene without having to sacrifice your mental health and personal well-being.

When I was assisting an ERL team last year the team I was with took a lot of our drafting and playing philosophies from you, playing with the idea that the meta isn't the meta but really the meta is the counter to the meta, heavily focusing on laning with not just the objective to win our lanes but achieving things with what we're doing on lanes, whether that be objective timings or just specific moments we wanted to recall. We obviously oversimplified a lot and not everything worked but I just want you to know that there are a lot of people who adore listening to you, appreciate the free knowledge you share and shape their own philosophies to things that you taught us, whether directly or indirectly. I know I personally never would have grown much in my own approach to the game and I most certainly would never have had a chance to even experience being an assistant for an ERL team if it wasn't for the knowledge I got to absorb from watching you so thank you for everything you have done and continue to do for this game, even if the people who need your knowledge the most dismiss you, there are just so many young players, coaches that are continuing to be shaped by the work you have done.

Hate the guy, love the guy whatever it is, hearing someone talk so passionately about something he loves is beautiful to me. It's just great seeing someone get so into the nitty gritty of something and enjoy something enough to go to such lengths. I really love the strategy talk in general since I have always adored every aspect of strategy, be it in RTS, Card games or as of late MOBAs and hearing someone go into such detail while also enjoying it as much or possibly more than i do somehow means the world to me. I hope you stay around for a long time because imo every competitive game needs someone who isn't afraid to "break" the meta, question established ideas or introduce new ones. Thanks a lot LS for everything you do for this game.

@@grootgrrot9552 @Groot Grrot If you're talking about BBQ, that team was riddled with internal problems. LS talked about this, although I don't remember where. But I'm pretty sure you can find the story behind it if you're interested. As for C9, I didn't say that the results he had with them give credibility to his ideas of the game. I agree with you that a small sample size vs those teams doesn't tell us much, especially considering how little time he's been with the org at that point. Which is why I'm saying that I'd love to see his thoughts be implemented by a top tier team such as T1 or Cloud 9 (for more than 2 months with Visa difficulties and a handful of games)
@aflowingbrook2919

@@grootgrrot9552 the lck team was a bottom place team that had just barely qualified and he joined as an assistant coach, not even head coach, so this example isnt really an honest argument. Im also pretty sure he was hired to cross the language barrier between Malice and the all-Korean speaking team. I dont even think he is that good of a coach, considering that most coaches are just there as figureheads for the players. But i also think there is alot of merit and interesting dynamics in implementing LS's ideas about how to draft correctly. Even if only a tiny bit of it is implemented, it would make league so much more enjoyable to watch.

I think the biggest takeaway from this video, and a consistent message LS had given over the years, is that is doesn't matter whether he's right or wrong about his conclusions. What ultimately matter is the methodology being produced and refined, and the ability to spread that methodology to produce a baseline level you are evaluated on. People in this scene continue to show their incompetence and complacency by coming up with every excuse to criticize the result or the conclusions, and never ask themselves to judge the process, which is what matters more than being right or wrong. When LS was talking about feeling empty due to trying for YEARS (around 1:31:45) to affect change and being so often rebuffed, I really felt that. I've been in that position, where you are the only one passionate in a situation and you can see everyone just settling for complacency. It truly is soul-sucking. LS if you ever read this I just wanna say you are a much stronger person than I am. You've been through hell and back and continue to fight the good fight, despite almost never being validated. I just want to let you know there is a community that will rally behind you and more than appreciates the insane amount of work you've put in. If it comes to a point where you decided it's time for you to move on, I personally will support you wherever you go, and I know many others will as well.

It's insane to me that no one else in the competitive scene is analyzing draft deeply other than ls, on the official broadcasts they stay on a surface level and won't critique the draft. Even if you here proplayers talk about the pick ban, you get the impression they don't know what's going on and just end up pick comfort regardless of how many better options exist. And why analysts even have jobs is beyond my understanding.
@aidanancelin4574
@aidanancelin4574 2 жыл бұрын
Of course they are but they are simply 'ot concluding the same things moreover there is still player getting involved in draft and not wanting to play certain champs plus they sometimes get wrong assumptions from player some champs in screams which doesnt always translate to proplay, so for me saying that he is the only one doing it is a bit deceptive

@@captive-audience it is really overblown that pro players can't play X champ. So strange that they can play every rework, change, and new champ after a week, no? Melee is what got me into eSports. Especially Mew2King and his optimizations. I get that his mannerisms are memeable but I never got why people ridiculed him for his work. We didn't have frame advance or hitbox visualization back then yet with only a ruler and thousands of hours of experiments he uncovered so many parts of the game that we take for granted now. Hearing that LS respects the hell out of him and talks with him (albeit however occasionally) is kind of heartbreaking considering the state of the LoL community. Keep fighting the good fight LS. Hopefully one day the LoL community will understand your contributions in the same way Melee's community acknowledges M2K's.

1:08:00 I love the mention of M2K. I agree that his story is inspirational for the thinking people. He obviously developed the tech skill to implement his theories, but if you look up how he manually figured out frame data by constantly pausing and comparing it to other character moves. Apparently his own data was relatively close, and now every top player (even Mang0) consider frame data and have the best moves memorized and account for it in their decision making.

This is why I've fallen in love with all different kinds of games, the process of optimization and the process of reducing problems into their intermediate parts and solving them just brings me a kind of satisfaction that I don't get anywhere else. It's the same reason I've fallen out of the league scene and gone back to roguelikes/card games. the lack of innovation and strategy and refinement in the scene drives me crazy because its potential is so much higher then where we're at. I have a bachelors in math and apply a lot of what I learned in academics to league of legends. It's cool to see a lot of similarities to how you describe "game theory" to subjects in mathematics like combinatorics, set theory, and group theory. Statistics also plays a big part. If you see this, I'd love to help create a defined axiomatic rule set for league of legends terminology and game theory. It would revolutionize the understanding of the game on an academic level.

I have been playing League for 8 years now (started in season 4). And I have not found an individual that shares the laser-focused devotion to game “theory” that you have. No one else has the passion I see in you. I would love to have a conversation with you one day about the game but unfortunately I’m not able to competently articulate my thoughts nor am I competent enough at the game to have thoughts in the same “level” as you/the pro scene. Thanks to your content, despite not being the best mechanical player, I’ve been able to maintain a level of play that I am happy with simply because of game knowledge and theory application. I learned the applications of freezing as opposed to just freezing thanks to you. I’m not delusional enough to think I’ll ever be good enough to be a competent pro player nor do I really want to. But as you say: “If I can increase my chances of winning by 0.5% by doing something fully within my control, I’d be a fool not to do such a thing.” I think you should be proud of yourself and I hope you will continue doing what you’re doing.

Really good video. Great information in this video but what I love is that it's so clear to see the sheer passion you have for games and the time and energy you put into all this. I hope you don't get demotivated by the voices that want to put you down. This is great content and know that many people still listen to you, wether they might agree with all that you're saying or not. Like I said before, it's already a beautiful sight to see the way you share your passion with others and I hope you continue to do so. You already have made a ton of ground and have so much to be proud of. Follow your heart and the good people will follow along

That insight on why Morgana was on krogs was simply a masterpiece. I really enjoyed that analogy with Starcraft and the players thought processes. It's almost like AI learning, where you put the machine with a single objective and a few params to play around, and it reaches the optimized way to win after trying over and over. That's not magic, that's maths. Resource managment. Logic. LS, for every hater you will always have at least one person that admires and respects your work. I trully believe that true passion is not usual in this century, and the ones that follow that path have an unique identity and voice. You are not a copycat. It's obvious that THIS is not only your job, but a core of your life. Therefore, anyone smart should at least listen. And make questions, not asumptions. Because there are probably hours and hours on beating on your craft before you reached a public conclussion. Scientific method has been the core of our evolution...so why couldn't we apply it to videogames, and get edges on competition? #respect Keep up that great work, and take care!

This is the best youtube video i've ever watched. It's funny to me how in all other games or sports it's mutually agreed upon, that it's the small percentages that makes a winner or loser. In all other sports contestants strive to gain those small percentages in every way imaginable, Formula 1 is a very good example. For some reason League players feel like this is the only competition where basic thoughts and logic don't apply. The funniest comment i've seen was back in the days when you were rumoured to coach T1. The person wrote something like: "imagine LS coach Faker, when he is not even diamond in Solo Q, Faker has nothing to learn from him". There is no other existing sport, esports or just a competition in general, where people argue that u have to be better than a player to coach him. That is the funniest thing i've ever read. You don't see football coaches substitute themselves in, because they are better than every single player out there on the pitch. I don't know why League is the exception. Why idiotic thoughts like that have some support in the league community, when you would be categorized as an idiot if u stated something similiar in another sport or esports community. It's kind of funny, but also kind of disturbing that people just turn of their brain the second they think about League.

I know LS probably won't read this anytime soon, but I think his obsession with the game is something we will hardly see in the future. His knowledge, passion, purpose and open communication is beautiful and necessary in such a toxic field as professional gaming. Seing him over the years and being able to observe his growth as a person and coach is beyond my understanding, such strength is only achievable through suffering. I want to be like him, not only referred to the game, but in life. Thank you for everything LS, you've been a real motivation, know that this platform has made you an inspiration for someone that is literally in the total opposite of the world.

I love watching/listening to the way you analyze the game. It is soo completely different then any other content creator, because you base your statements on "theory" and not feelings. I am also disappointed that you were not able to demonstrate this fully with C9, not only because I am a fan of yours, but I am a fan of the game and I consume it as a sport and there is a huge stagnation in LEC/LCS/
