In November 2021 my parents gifted me a top of the line Lucy Clay Machine, from Lucy Clay Tools, to help me better myself as a polymer clay artist. For the last month, we have been fighting them to replace a the broken board, as well as the bent, incorrect size leg for the machine. They’ve still yet to do so. I have pictures. I have emails. I am disgusted. I will spend the rest of my days sharing my experience with the polymer clay group. If you are wondering if it’s worth the money, it is NOT. Save your money & purchase something else. It’s not worth the headache. I’ll gladly update when there’s resolve to my issues. However they’re not responsive to IG messages, emails, or FB messages, so I am doing what I feel I need to do.

Thank you!! My mom disputed the charge when LC Tools refused to make it right. She did get her money back through the dispute, thankfully. I ended up purchasing an Ed Street machine with a motor. I should have it within the next few months. I plan to review it once I have it. I am very excited for it.

Omg I’ve been making polymer clay jewelry for 4 years now. Mostly beads and pendants with semi precious stones! My thought process WAS just like yours. I’ll invest in the Lucy Clay machine once I’ve been doing it long enough that it becomes a business! Who doesn’t love perfect slice’s. Lol!! No lie I was buying mine in July! Now idk, I’m just not impressed anymore! The story behind the machine was she went to her Dad who’s an engineer and had him make this machine. Because she is a polymer clay artist her knowledge of the art medium we use to turn a profit is very clear! customer service at its worst! Dang girl I’m sorry that happened to you!

Thank you! I have no problem spending on quality products where customer service is top notch. Until this issue I had personally I hadn’t heard anything negative about their customer service. Then all of a sudden through sharing, others shared their bad experiences as well. It’s so sad that they can’t just take care of their customers. They’re going to eventually dig a hole they can’t climb out of with their poor customer service. It’s sad.

They continued to stand firm that I should pay for everything, despite having paid and followed their instructions on delivery. When they were unwilling to properly handle the situation we filed a chargeback with the bank and got the money back. It was only after I assume they received that notification that they wanted to consider a discount of something. We paid somewhere around 1,000 USD for a brand new machine that was broken. We weren’t paying for anything else. I’ve never purchased from them again. I continue to always share my experience. I own an Ed Street machine with a motor and I love it and recommend it to anyone who will listen. It’s one of the best investments.

George is great. I bought a second hand slicer and it needed some repair he sent me what equated to a rebuild kit. He had me order one item so he could make shipping free. I had wanted a set of die’s for my czechstruder so I bought a 10 dollar item and got the stuff to rebuild my slicer. There is a bit of a language barrier but with a little patience it can be worked through. I did not go through email however, I “spoke” with him through messenger. I’m sorry you’ve had such a hard time. I’ve got the extruder the mini slicer and the large slicer and haven’t had a moments trouble. I am pretty sure shipping prices would be a complete nightmare to send it assembled and to keep it all aligned, but it for sure sounds like their quality control needs a bit of work. I have never bothered saving it for the clay machine because I gave myself a gnarley case of tennis elbow cranking my pasta machine so I have to use a motorized machine or it comes back. Using a drill for my extruder is great but using it for the clay machine seems like an awkward situation. I hope you’ve had some luck getting things resolved.

Glad I saw this video. What an awful experience, but I'm glad your parents got the money back and that you found a great alternative (it's so pretty!). I just bought a Makin's non-stick machine with a motor for $100 on Amazon. I've been using an ancient Amaco original for the past 3 years and was teetering on buying an Atlas + motor then saw the Makin's. It's pretty nice but the motor is sooooo loud. LOL

I am looking at Eds right now and thinking I will go with it. I am surprised polymer clay doesn't have better machines on the market but at least Ed's blades can be removed so you can clean the machine. It doesn't have to be over complicated either. So sad to see machines are in the $600 to $1,000. I like clay but not that much. So Eds being $300 and below I can justify.

I have a $10 pasta machine from a local grocery store (Kaufland), and now I have decided to upgrade to a $20 pasta machine from the other popular store (Lidl). Both pasta machines have a 3-year warranty moreover you can return them any time if they break. I was thinking maybe one day I would buy that Lucy Clay machine, but it is so expensive and doesn't look like it is more special than a regular pasta machine. Apparently, it's not worth the money.

I really appreciate your review. I was thinking of getting one. I’ll just keep looking… when I first saw it I thought it was automatic too lol that was a disappointment but super glueing a part of the machine? Heck no. I have no time for a company that doesn’t just send a complete replacement. I think we all could design something that does a beautiful job and doesn’t break the bank. Making an affordable and a good product will make customers come back.

Way too much money for something you have to put together yourself. But I would certainly publicize this problem on each and every forum this company is associated with. Bad publicity will cost them business and hopefully get a refund for you. If you could even get the thing together, what happens when the handle falls off or if there’s a problem with a roller. Stick with Ed’s machine; he does have reliable products and service.

I'm dying to know if they ever made this right? I don't know if you can sue a company overseas in small claims court but I would have tried just to be a pain in the butt for a company that made me jump through hoops and dismissed serious mistakes (false advertising?) as just typos or semantics like they did to you. It's shameful that the company doesn't have the integrity to stand behind their products...

Hi! So, it was sort of resolved. My mom and I tried to be reasonable with them the whole time. She sent e-mails. I sent e-mails. They wanted to admit no fault and only place blame. And they offered to replace broken parts IF we paid for them. I wasn’t paying to replace pieces that came to me broken. When you spend $700+ on an item it should come to you in whole, perfect, working condition. Anyway. Eventually my mom filed a report with her CC company for the charge and they cancelled the charge and she got her money back. I do have an exciting update about machines that I plan to share soon though! Nothing to do with this awful company though. Dealing with companies overseas is much different than dealing with them here. The best I can do for other clay makers is continue to share my unfortunate experience and hope it saves someone else the headache and the money.

EDs machines are fantastic, yes, I have one, but I did need to return mine, because unrelated to EDs business of making them colored and modifying the scraper blades my problem was with the actual atlas machine, which he quickly replaced, but also I do not work for Lucy tools, but for years, I’ve been getting Amazon returns, as well as I have a stock pile of parts and replacement pieces to have ready to mail out to customers in the US. I have helped with many issues, with who is the claim machines and things happen in the mail? I don’t see in the video where your frame is bent, but it is the right size for the baby squirrel, I have every version of machine myself that I have used over the years. I have never had a problem with any of them. Some of the older models evolved into better features on the newer models., and I’m not sure whether it’s a language barrier thing in the other countries on the misunderstanding of the customer service but that’s a perception of the person who is having the problem. I’ve never had an issue or an experience where they didn’t immediately fix or replace something that was either in warranty or with a new machine. yes stuff happens in the mail. even if the box can be perfectly intact. Maybe as I don’t know why or if I ever got contacted to mail out something to you or not that is not within my realm of expertise or am I not the person that would make that decision, but they are excellent machines. I have learned to take them all the way apart and put them back together. I have also assembled probably 40 or 50 machines myself. Including slicers, and everything else what does amaze me is how many people order off of Amazon, open the box, take everything apart in the box never put it together and return it just loose in the box all floating around so that when it actually gets returned, there are acrylic, pieces, broken, or things scratched from metal rubbing plastic. Instead of packing it the way it was shipped. I hope you got your problem remedied but they are excellent machines. I’ve been using them for years I’ve been claying for 20 years., and the 2023 model of the elephant next with all the upgrades and revisions is absolutely the most incredible machining I have ever had. If anyone ever has any questions about their machines, using them putting them together, I would be happy to help although I can’t approve any kind of placement pieces to be sent that Hass to come from the company if I have them just to know they do have customer service and it most times works perfectly fine. And yes typos happen. I’ve ordered lots of equipment that had typos in it. When you’re translating from different languages, it can cause a typo or caused a typo to be missed. I’m just curious did you ever get your machine put together and did you use it or did you return it? And there’s a reason why certain parts are left to be put together by the purchaser, and the reason is for more compact shipping, if it was put together completely, and would need all the extra packing around it to keep it safe during transit the box would have to be so much larger than having the pieces taking apart the shipping will cost probably double, as far as gluing in the little end caps, there were other upgrade options you could buy that those spaces needed to be left open for so if you didn’t purchase the upgraded toppers or with collectors, then those plastic pieces would need to be put in. They also would not ship superglue with the product because of government restrictions. As far as ordering the new baseboard in the arch frame off their website, those are items that have never been on their website if someone needed to purchase those they would have to be made a special invoice directly from the company. They have never carry those openly as replacement parts on their website. There are reasons for things, and spreading hearsay of supposedly bad issues. Other People have had other than yourself., should not be really considered by viewers. And as I said, before, for years, I’ve been helping them not as an employee, but just as someone that really believes in their products and has used them and help polymer clay guild, buy them in bulk for their members without any issues. I have helped with many customer service replacement issues, and I’ve only ever heard of one other complaint such as yours and that given a little bit of time and understanding was probably remedied. Here is a link to actually how you put the baby squirrel together on their video it’s quite simple, quite straightforward. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qad_m7OYr8nLl30.html

Thought I'd let you know that your video is still being seen. I already witnessed the company in action. One of the KZfaqrs I follow did a live unboxing of one of the slicers. Her friend ordered it for her. And you guessed it, customer service was a nightmare. That cooked it for me. She also had to go through her cc company to get her money back. Unfortunately, the only people out of money is the insurance company that backs up the cc industry. Cause Lucy Clay got their money. Good luck with your business, and getting the word out. @@cindyslifeSG What was the final outcome with the company. I see you have one of Ed’s machines (looking forward to a video on it!), but did you send back your Lucy Clay machine? Did they refund your mother’s money? Etc.? It’s really too bad to hear this about the Lucy Clay products. I’ve only purchased smaller items from them, and had no issues. They have unique products that just about every polymer clayer wishes they had/could afford. They’d have a huge business if they would improve their customer service, improve quality control, and bring their prices down.
