I always felt like Lucy Liu is sort of the Audrey Hepburn of our generation. Classy, warm, modest, intelligent and educated. She stands out never having to shout out. I love Liu Yu Ling!

She speaks truth. Mind, emotions, spirit and body are all connected. Whether it's trauma/pain from childhood or a break-up last month....unprocessed emotional pain stays in our body and can show up as illness. There is so much wisdom in Eastern medicine and philosophy. ❤

She got what she wanted in spades with the Watson character. Not only is she not an observer anymore, she's a primary protagonist as an investigator equal to Holmes. They transitioned her into that role in a slow, believable way too.

This Daoist concept of avoiding labels is good. Labels can easily prove misleading. The word 'tree' could mean anything from a two-year-old sapling to a mighty thousand-year-old sequioa. Buddhist philosophy says "the finger pointing at the moon is not the moon." Stealing candy money doesn't occupy quite the same moral high ground, however. I guess we all have something - "Let him who is without sin cast the first stone..." Right?

I started rewatching Elementary last week, it is on a streaming service here in Aus. I didn't appreciate just how good it was the first time I saw it. It doesn't show active violence really, not in the way that most procedurals do, where the main characters shoot a bunch of bad guys each week to the point you gotta wonder are they kinda serial killers after 15 seasons of NCIS and Gibbs capping a few people each episode... Elementary is about the evidence, about the process of solving a crime, about the leverage of what she as Watson and Johnny Lee Miller know about a person to compel them to reveal a new piece of the puzzle, or admit their guilt. Having recently rewatched Sherlock, also. I have love in my heart for both portrayals. I like Johnny Lee Miller's portrayal as it is while rude, impatient, and bossy, is also deeply caring and kind. That is compared to Cumberbatch's brilliant but largely incapable of caring and kindness more melodramatic portrayal. Given the choice between both Watsons, however, as much as I love Watson in Sherlock, Lucy Liu's portrayal of Watson in Elementary is my favourite. She's strong, smart, she is often ahead of Sherlock, while not just being supportive. With Elementary Watson feels like she is an equal to Sherlock in their self described partnership. I love both shows, and I have really come to realise that even though it's a network procedural on CBS, Elementary is a great Sherlock, alongside the BBC's Sherlock. Wait, Robert Downey Jnr too? Damn, Sherlock and Watson as a characters have 6 fantastic actors portraying them in 3 distinct flavours.
