I am from Picardy and the presence of Picard culture is historically accurate, it was a thing and had its own dialect (French dialects are called patois in France). Walloon and Picard patois were actually quite close to each other and were for instance characterised by the use of the letter w. You can to this day see towns names starting with a w, which is pretty much an exception in France.

As a Dutch person I can confirm that Flevoland is an Island. Or well.. technically it is not really an island? Flevoland is a big area in the middle of the Netherlands where the Dutch people just built a lot of dykes and then removed all the water within those dykes. I am not entirely sure if that counts as an island tbh 😂
@thomasvrielink299
@thomasvrielink299 11 күн бұрын
An island is just a piece of land surrounded by water, so whether it's man-made or not doesn't matter. That means that the Flevopolder is an island, as it is surrounded by water, but the Noordoostpolder isn't, as it has a land border with Overijssel and Friesland.
@EaSkateVideo
@EaSkateVideo 11 күн бұрын
You are absolutely correct, kind Sir! My point was that most islands I know rise out above the waterlevel, while the Flevopolder as far as I know lays below the waterlevel of the IJsselmeer. I agree with you that it matches the definition of an island, but at the same time it also seems to match the definition of a depression (and a polder of course).
@edwinvanvelthoven5294
@edwinvanvelthoven5294 11 күн бұрын
Actually Flevoland is the name of the newly created (reclaimed from the sea) province, consisting of two parts: the 'Flevopolder' and the 'Noordoostpolder'. Only the Flevopolder could be considered an island (Although it's only seperated from the mainland by a canal)

In my opinion they should give a bonus for controlling the entirety of important rivers not just estuaries. Rivers were an important transport routes and controlling entirety of it was beneficial for the trade in the region. For example Vistula river was an important route for Polish grain going down to Gdansk where grain was later loaded on ships and sold across Europe. It was a major factor in building wealth of Poland. The country was known as a Bread Basket of Europe for a longer while.

Fairly sure Bruges still reigned supreme as the biggest trader of the three flemish cities in 1337, not to mention starting at Bruges there could be an introduction of events to show how the dominance of trade in the low countries moved from Bruges, to Ghent, to Antwerp to Rotterdam/Amsterdam.
@dylanvogler2165
@dylanvogler2165 11 күн бұрын
Yeah but the only thing I would change about your suggestion is to make the Antwerp to Amsterdam move only if there is an independent Netherlands that does *not* controll Antwerp. As the reason Amsterdam became the dominant trade centre is because Antwerp, which was controlled by the Republic, fell to the Spanish after which, due to Spain's policy towards non catholics, alot of people fled from Antwerp to Amsterdam. This combined with the Dutch blockade of the Westerschelde made this happen. There wouldn't be a point of moving the dominant trade centre from Antwerp to Amsterdam if the city is controlled by the Netherlands itself.

The names for Ghent and Bruges should be either Gent and Brugge (as it is in Dutch) or Gand and Bruges (as in French). Makes little sense that these have their English names, but other towns in the area keep their Dutch/French names. Also, the division between Dutch/Flemish/Walloon/French wasn't as pronounced as it is now. People's languages was much more similar than it is portrayed here (North France had a language very similar to Brugge and Ieper).

Hello, about Hainaut (which is pronounced "éno"), they should split Mons in 2, where the northern part would be Soignies ("swani") in order to put stones as a tradegood. The quarries of Soignies provided stones for Flanders and Hainaut for centuries. And by the way the good that were the most exported goods of the region (for Mons, Gent or Bruges at least), were the wool and the woven fabrics that were a direct competition for the english merchants by the end of the middle ages.

@@Bigsmoke11001 That's clearly not what I mean, but other regions than those that dominated in the real world should have a chance, they shouldn't be steam rolled every single campaign, the balance as to be finely tuned with a much higher chance for historical events to play out as they have in the past, but not 99-1 but maybe 75-25 or even 66-34. I want force limits for armies to march through an area, such that a large army is more or less restricted to traveling through flat grasslands. Terrain historically played a huge role in where armies marched. If that's not possible, for whatever reason, then significant scaling modifiers for army marching speed and attrition through various terrain such that you'll get a warning that marching XYZ army through that route is suicidal. The larger the army, the greater the penalty.

And that means that for it to be successful, it must prioritize game balance over historical accuracy and detail. For instance, if the terrain indicates hills and another map indicates the presence of forests, it's unclear how this could impact the fucking army In that screen, there are more provinces than in the entirety of France, Spain, and the Lowlands region in EU4. Dude this is fucking exciting, I've probably never hyped for another game like that. It looks super detailed with a lot of historical accuracies and I really hope it will be difficult to undersant to play the game. (I don't really want every single player to learn that game easily, in that way EU5 is going to be a high-quality game for experts.)

Although Overijssel is not wrong Oversticht would be more appropriate name historically. The reason is it was the "lands beyond" therefore Oversticht.

Maybe you are able to release it from Tecklenburg. Wouldn`t put my hopes in to that. The greatest County btw is Oldenburg its so great that it don't even need flavor after all these years of EU 4 . Besides the von Oldenburg dynasty is so wide spread, King Christian was the "Idiot King of Denmark" and his failurs helped the swedes to gain relevance in the 30 Years War and it was around as an entety until the "Bonner Republik" when they denied Oldenburg a Freestate status like Bavaria. Looking at you Paradox. But non the less always looking forward to more contend in the Lowlands/Northern Germany/Skandinavia Regions.

I would support smaller cultures as long as they are overshadowed as one whole culture, kinda like as is local culture develop specialties over time and that that would give some kinda bonus. Not sure tho how implementable that is tho

By the way "Gau" just means something like province, region or area in German. So the province of Agrandin. In English for your videos just say Agrandin-(space)-gau and dont mush the words together, as they are also separately said in German. But it is a very old term not used anymore, the last use was by the regional party organizations of the mustache-party. (Only the party had their local organizations called "Gau", while the German state was organized differently with different terms and organisations") But you can still see quite a few rural areas having Gau in their name, like Gau Algesheim or Gau Odernheim.

they should split low saxon into westpalhalian and north low saxon so drenthe can be north low saxon and overijsel can be westphalian thus following the dialectical split

Personally I'd like the second option for culture division, even if that makes it harder gameplay wise. It's more accurate especially for that time.

Flevoland is a province built in that big inland sea in the middle of the Netherlands. It is huge. But only exists from the latter 20th century. Also, it would be interesting to see more detail in Utrecht for both area and wonders. As the Domtoren (potential wonder) was being built from 1321 to 1382. And maybe, if there are good sources on this, split up Utrecht a bit to show that Amersfoort was more so influenced by Gelre culture at the time than by Utrecht culture. Which eventually flipped at some point. While still being under the rule of the Bishop of Utrecht. Especially if there will be more subcultures in the area. But that is too nitpicky and might just need a mod.

Would be interesting to have a flavour mod(pack) for specific areas, especially if creators from different areas would like to go in specific detail about cities that had interesting stuff going on during the 1300s. When Voltaire's Nightmare 2? detail galore. Every town at the time being represented and area for new ones or villages.
