I love listening to you describe how your mind works while creating. A while ago someone asked me where I get all my ideas. This puzzled me and I responded that these ideas are in my head. I look around me and I see colors, textures, patterns, lines, shapes and shadows everywhere and I am fascinated by the way light plays on these things. I am then inspired to play with a variety of mediums and paper to interpret what I see. I then realized that not everyone sees the world as I do. The person who had asked me where my ideas came from just silently turned and walked away and I felt sad for her and for others who do not see what I see..

Hello Louise 😊 I live in Texas USA and go to some paper crafting events where I am the only junk journalist there. Everyone makes cards or scrapbooks, and they don’t really understand the reason for junk journals. They stop by and look, ask questions, and comment that it looks nice but they don’t understand the reason for them even after I explain it and how much fun they are to make. I love it because you can use all the paper craft techniques in a junk journal from stamping to paint, to sewing or anything you want! It’s the most fun crafting ever! It makes me so happy that I can’t wait to get to my next project! ❤

P.S. In New Zealand - what you call 'Rabbit Wire', we call 'Chicken Wire' - and yes, it is used for the same purpose. There is usually a large wooden frame work around the outside of the 'hutch', and the wire is attached to the frame work so that whilst your pet has plenty of room to move and fresh air to enjoy, it can not run away. 🐇🐓🐇🐓🐇

Luise: it is amazing how many people look at one strangely when trying to explain what a junk journal is. However, when I was introduce to this particular craft, I ,too thought what exactly is this? So I completely understand how many people feel the first time they become aware of it. However, it is so much fun. Collage has always been so exciting to me and this type of art work fits right in with my thinking. I feel very lucky. Carol from California

That must've been such an amazing feeling to find your art in someone's junk journal. A journal that they're selling and that people are purchasing because of your work/ art in the journal!!!! I'm so proud of you & happy for you!!!! I really hope you know just how special you are. You are so talented & you're my favorite creator/ artist. I've never connected with anyone's work as I have with yours. My art style is mixed media & grunge. I love creating the light in the dark & the darkness in the light. I hope that makes sense. Thank you for your inspirational videos. I hope that you & anyone else who sees this, has a beautiful day 🌻 Much love from Canada 🇨🇦 PS. I know German. My entire family is fluent. My Grandfather came from Germany & my Grandmother from Mexico. They decided on German as our 2nd language instead of Spanish, but I'm Canadian, so I had to learn a 3rd language anyway - French. And now I'm trying to learn Spanish. Might as well have made me learn every language on the planet LOL Anyways, that was a little note. I do understand you 🧡

Hi Louise, I had to laugh because I knew your favorite color and how you don't like pink! Also laughed because even though I've only been able to make one altered book and one completed journal (both for my mom.). I've started another JJ/ art "thingy" 😀 for my sister. I wish I had more time for this!! I'm hoping when I retire. But in the meantime I collect as much as I can . At work I have access to a lot of materials, mostly papery and floral and envelopes. What I'm getting to is the way my coworkers shake they're heads when I get envelopes and things out of the waste baskets 🙃. The hunt for materials can be a lot of fun too!! Sorry so long. My sources of inspiration are very similar to what you do! Yep comes from everywhere in many ways!

LOL you made me laugh out loud!! My grandkids save bits of paper and empty food boxes proudly exclaiming Grandma would love this! Since starting down this road my life has been anything but normal!! To say this hobby has invaded my life, one only needs to look in my living room! Thankfully I have no carpet and the tiniest of scraps are easily swept up! My dogs steal pieces of paper and happily rip and tear them up with me! Actually some of their torn bits Ive used in collage, they have quite a talent for this!! Is this madness? Yes!! "We are all mad here" and all the best people are!! Now on to make an Alice journal!!!!

Lehrer waren not amused. Manche Heften haben auch Ränder mit Blumen Motive. Wussten wir viel, Hauptsache die Stunde war vorbei oder ich konnte mich besser konzentrieren auf was gesagt wurde. So witzig, heute ist es offiziell Kunst 😂.

I completely understand the color bridge. A similar term would be a "color story" to give the journal continuity. I am not making themes as much as stories. So grungy or vintage in shades of brown, teal, orange as my base.

I really like junk journal art and grunge as well. However, I struggle with journals. I've been trying to match everything. Too stressful. When I made quilted wall hangings I made just ONE "custom" design. I DID NOT enjoy it. So, I created what I wanted then sold my quilts through a local gift shop or at craft fairs. This video was very helpful. I'm going to relax and create a journal I love. However long it takes. Thanks, Luise.

I have mixed feelings about the grunge fairies kit...the designs / artwork are gorgeous but I have to become used to the very neutral and darkish color palette... How does it feel to be famous now? 🙊 maybe she will make you a pillowcase. You're so right about learning from each other regardless of style. Respecting others work is important. BEST FAMILY EVER. I love weird! It's a special connection. Yes it's all art with soul. I think style changes and evolves as we do. I too have become comfortable with pink, at age 53 🙊. Tina got me into it. Do we need to define? It can constrain creativity, I've done it to myself so often. We call it a dandelion clock 🙊 it's hard to explain why though. Deadlines are counterproductive I think. Nobody in my 'real' life gets junking or even my love of steampunk🙈. My family just roll their eyes at me. These journals are so special😍. I'm pleased your Dad is understanding you more now. The questions require you to define the indefinable! Your colour composition is perfect! Your kit is awesome, I'd really love to make my own using my art and creations. My granddaughter loves giraffes and would love the style of this (she's 2 1/2 and even paints using he bottom😄). Oh, adorable toy 😍 and a beautiful sentiment. Not fat....hugable!!! Luise I'm sorry for the long comment, you inspired my reply 🙈. Tfs and have a great day 💖💖💖

I feel called out Luise. How did you know I'm a little bit weird? Oh noooooo. Lol. Yeah I think most people are weird in one way or another and we are just a special group. Proven often by things we might say that other folks are not likely to say. Such as, "no no, don't throw that napkin away!" Or maybe, " could I have that wrapper when you're done with it?" Seriously though, I have a question, is junk journaling the act of making a journal or the using of this style of journal?
@luiseheinzl
@luiseheinzl 2 жыл бұрын
That's a good question! I don't know the exact definition, but for me it's both, making it and use it. I mean, many people create all of the pages first and then bind the journal... it's journaling on the pages maybe before the actual journal exists... Hope that makes sense

Luise, you make reference to someone else. Is there a group of people that helps you make journals? I'm confused. Sorry

Sorry for the confusion. No, there is no group that helps me making journals. I make everything by myself. But in this case Kerstin has sent some pieces and her journals to include into the digital paper collection "grungy fairies". She has made that for me so that I am allowed to include it into my digital designs.

This is such an interesting video🤓When I heard years ago first about junk journalling and saw some pictures, I was not interested. What I saw where mostly creations that where very neat and Everything was bought and new. Then I saw first Barbara's from @ 49dragonflies and then you as well. At times in the past I have felt totally overwhelmed as to where to start even with those excellen free!!! 🙏🥰 tutorials from you and Barbara. I think this had also a lot to do with severe fatigue that had been going on for some years. Right now I am slowly getting much bette 🙃 I also find that creating pages with no or little writing are do helpful and uplifting, because I have found in the past that writing about for example sadness only makes me more sad, whereas if I create from my emotions in the moment the opposite often happens. I had never heard about steampunk until I explored junk journalling more in depth. I love all those different subcultures and how people express their individuality and creativity. I am almost halfway through this video but I needed to pause to thank you for it right now and also for showing Kerstin's amazing journals, some of her pages leave me speechless too. I find also that as the seasons change my need or absence of need for more colours changes. 🙋🏻🦘🌏✨💚✨🌍
