This is my most favorite Lukas Nelson song. To much to type here as to why but right around the time it was released (?) I went through the hardest times of my life. Been nothing but hard times and tragedies. Lived in 7 states, 5 native american rezes, camped in 35 and traveled through all lower 48 dozens of times but then.... I got stuck in a mental institution. I lost everything in my world. Everything. My son was in a mental institution at the same time and when my dad was alive he was in one... then i was forced in one after my world crumbling from under me. Down the rabbit hole. Then I almost died in there from what they called "stressed induced high blood pressure." And i freaked out just over that.... Here i was trying to deal with life and then that to... I been in and out of rehabs and psych shit my hole life but it was so much to not just let go and succumb to the madness of everything so i finally accepted help... A old Korean lady taught me how to meditate. Then i got heavy in to Alan Watts and Joseph Campbell. Well I fought my way back... all the while this song is like a grounding thing for me.. makes me take pause and just be grateful and remember to not entertain those old neural pathways. So i always say.. Not fret about yesterday, don't borrow from tomorrow, live today... breathe in now. And then Turn off the news and build a garden hit me one day. I asked my self wtf are you doing these same old pud jobs chasing your tail in strife. I only live today so just try something you love. I built my best friend a cigar box bb king guitar for his b day then every one wanted me to make one. So i did... then it hit me.. this is my garden. there something so wonderful about building a musical instrument for others... im not rich but it helps pay the bills because now i have my 3 kids back/ Im a single dad of three wonderful kids and this is gonna sound cheeky but our house... is a sound garden. Lukas Nelson & The POTR played a part in my life and theirs... (this is the condensed version haha)
