This was a really tricky series to figure out logistically, but I think it's going to work! Hopefully this helps you understand better what balls to use and why you'd use them in different situations on different sport patterns.

Love this video. Explained everything perfectly. It cost me not having a one ball yesterday at a tournament. Usually van throw thane on medium patterns, but the gutter was not in play. Had angle issues for days on the first 3 games. I know if I had at least one of these, I would have been well into cut.

Just me, but I was able to get the OG Virtual Virtual Gravity around the corner up until 25 at the arrows. I had a 4in pin to PAP layout and the typical stacked leverage. When I hit 25, it ran out of gas. I COULD possibly drill the Evo with a longer pin distance and get it to keep going. Not sure how it would work on SPEC but the Crux Prime is one of the better ones in a while for me. 🤔🤔

The Prime is actually really good . . it's so useful and versatile on so many things, but the smoother nature of it is kind of limiting when it comes to bowler style more than laneplay. One of the small handful of sanded solids that actually looks amazing at my second filming house, and NOTHING looks the same at both houses, while it somehow manages to. Very underrated ball.

@@LukeRosdahl I believe it. I threw two different Primes and I couldn't put them down after I found the pocket. The second one however I struck just about immediately after I picked it up after a lucky guess of where to throw it.

I think the general reason is because they're so time consuming and hard to conceptualize. I didn't know how to go about it because with all the different factors in there, you can't just say this ball works on this pattern or anything. This was the only way that made sense was to sort through different shapes at different hook potentials, and it took me weeks to come to that because I was going to do like Hook by itself, and then do episodes by shape, and realized I'd have had to go through and cover the entire catalog's worth of balls, and some balls I don't think are that good on sport patterns. Super Son!Q has limited use, so does the P3 despite how good it is, etc, so if I went through the whole catalog, I might as well just do an In Depth on everything, and at that point it's just video spam. It's just so hard to cover all the angles when there are so many variables.

As a two hander I find the one ball choice hard to make. I already have a phaze 2 and I run in to some conditions where it is flat out not enough ball. I was thinking the physix because it is a more versatile option but I'm wondering if it is strong enough to be an outlier from the P2. Ps, I keep all my equipment de oiled and surfaced regularly. Thank you
@LukeRosdahl
@LukeRosdahl 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, PhysiX is plenty enough stronger, plus they have a familiar shape, so PhysiX to P2 is really just changing your hook potential, not a whole ton else. PhysiX is a little firmer on the backend if anything.
@daniellavallee1879

On extreme wet/dry, any one of these stand out as the best option? I deal with a lot of friction past the 6 to 8 board, but a complete flood in the middle of the lane (inside 10). This is supposed to be a 42 foot shot. I’m a lefty, rev rate 350, ball speed 16. Really need something to not just jump on the friction but still has the traction to help me in the oil. That’s kinda a catch 22 but I know these balls can help with that possibly.
@LukeRosdahl

The Crux Prime is the answer, it's early and pretty smooth. I just finally got one to drill lefty and I'm pretty excited to get it drilled.

Would the Halo Vision be a good piece to add for the 1-ball? Or is it too smooth at 4k to be considered the 1-ball?
@LukeRosdahl
@LukeRosdahl 4 жыл бұрын
I find it to just be too much ball period. It could logistically fit in place of the Gravity Evolve, but for me, there's too much overlap with the Vision and the PhysiX, and because of the more forward rolling core in the Halos, I find this makes the PhysiX more versatile. The Evolve is also more forward rolling, but a smoother and 'blendier' look than the Vision.

@LukeRosdahl
@LukeRosdahl 4 жыл бұрын
Nah, IQ Nano is probably a 2 or a 3 ball depending on your game. More aggressive than the IQ Tour, but not quite Phaze 2 level, so it's weird that you'd have those two flipped . . they have similar shapes, but the Phaze 2 should be 2-3 boards stronger and a bit earlier than the IQ Nano.

Hi I'm looking at getting a new reactive ball, I'm currently throwing a "Hustle au" at 14 pounds and a 370 Rev rate, two handed. I was thinking the phyisix would be a good choice, do you agree?
@LukeRosdahl
@LukeRosdahl 4 жыл бұрын
PhysiX is a huge step up, definitely a good ball, but it's going to be a couple arrows stronger than your AU, and with you being two handed, it's going to be a ton more hook than you're used to, might actually just recommend an IQ Emerald, kind of rolls like the AU, just stronger.

I wouldnt use anything with the spec cover unless you plan on drilling a new one every 50 games... that's how quickly all of the primes and some of the pro motion's ive seen being used stop hooking
@LukeRosdahl
@LukeRosdahl 4 жыл бұрын
They don't stop hooking though . . people don't understand how strong the covers actually are, that's what I keep saying in the extra videos I've made about the Prime and Pro Motion. The covers are crazy strong and they're smooth, so people either sand them back down and make them too early, or they try to cover too many boards with them and if they don't pop on the backend, they don't "hook." I just think people are having a hard time understanding them because they're different from other balls. Now, the Pro Motion has settled in nicely and I love it with shine on it . . so I'll give you that actually, buuuut the Prime footage shown in this video is from my original one after about 150 games. It IS hard to replicate factory surface though and I think most of the time people end up going too strong on the surface when they sand them back down and that just makes them super early and slow down lane . . but like I said, if they wouldn't have discontinued the Halo, that's what I'd have had there over the Evolve.
@dannewcomer7352
@dannewcomer7352 4 жыл бұрын
I myself matchup very well to the pro motion when I tested it out. I know that every reactive ball gradually loses it's out of the box "hook" over time. The concern I have is how fast these spec covers transition. I've watched on at least 3 different occasions where people took a prime out of the box, shot big with it "including an 856" then the next week bring it into their shop asking why a ball that was designed to absorb oil less quickly has already died. I've had very good fortune with the storm/roto line and loved the pro motion out of box. but I have concerns about the longevity of the spec cover compared to other cover stocks
@LukeRosdahl
@LukeRosdahl 4 жыл бұрын
@@dannewcomer7352 Yeah I get it. Like I was saying though, everyone expects big backend, and when a ball stops covering 20 boards, they equate that to "dying." These balls weren't designed to cover the whole lane, they weren't designed to be used on house shots, and every ball has a settling in period as they are used. It's just that this cover is much too strong for the conditions people are using them on. Strong is more of a front to back reaction than a side to side motion reaction, and a lot of people don't understand that. Stronger to them means more board coverage. USBC's absorption testing confirms the lower absorption rate, and SPECTO testing showed that the Prime lost one tenth of a percent of entry angle after 400 shots in a test, so the longevity has data behind it as well. I'm not debating the on lane results on a house shot . . but that's not what these balls are designed for in the first place. It's a super strong cover that needs a lot of oil to truly be in its element, and due to that, they just don't shape like traditional reactives. I'm not trying to put some corporate spin on it or use smoke and mirrors or angles to cover anything up, but just like most people think urethane is for dry lanes, too many people expect this cover to act like a true reactive and bounce on the backend indefinitely.
@LukeRosdahl
@LukeRosdahl 4 жыл бұрын
That's kind of why I've made several videos on the Pro Motion, because it has tamed down quite a bit on most regular conditions, I quite like it polished and not so early reacting . . but maybe try some testing now with surface on heavier conditions perhaps?? My Prime hasn't lost a step, but that one I do keep surface on. My PM and Evolve get too early when I add surface back to them.
@bdatwood76

@LukeRosdahl
@LukeRosdahl 4 жыл бұрын
No actually, I should have added that, I'll edit the descriptions!! I actually show two PhysiX's in the video, the dull one is 5 x 3 1/2 x 2 1/2, the shiny one is 4 7/8 x 3 x 3 1/2, so not a terrible amount of difference really. The Evolve is 5 1/4 x 3 1/2 x 4 1/2, Prime is 4 7/8 x 3 x 3 1/2, so same as the shiny PhysiX.

@RRBuilder611

yes, sorta like urethane. It picks it up but doesn't absorb much. since SPEC flares more it doesn't lay the oil back down like low flaring urethane can.

@@RRBuilder611 Well, crux prime sure does flare, but SPEC wouldn't flare if you just put it on a pancake ball.
@LukeRosdahl
@LukeRosdahl 4 жыл бұрын
Just general shining from use, and yeah the oil does tend to stay on the surface longer. The shining of the ball from the shaker board and ball return wheels and things like that will shine the cover up, and the hook potential gets reduced faster with SPEC it seems like, but like I said, not a bad thing at all. It shines and the reaction softens up as the lanes transition, so it allows you to stick with it longer, and because it blends wet/dry better, you'll be able to stay with it longer and have an easier time over something like a Halo that's going to have a shorter window of use unless you're on an absolute flood that's carrying down.
