Yes! It's true! Urethane! The 5 ball slot is for weaker reactives or urethane, and some might argue that urethane is just as important as a spare ball is, but these 3 balls DO have wildly different applications!

Watching Luke throw urethane is like a Panda Bear driving a car. Assuming that the Panda Bear is driving to Luke's house to take him bowling where Luke starts throwing urethane and isn't paying attention when he knocks over the Panda Bear's appetizer sampler.

My spare ball is a Mix I got recently. It’s not as useless as a strike ball as I thought a shiny, weak urethane would be. So far I like it for spares but I don’t know that I’ve used it on anything burnt enough to judge whether it really takes the lane condition out of the equation. I really have to get an Ink for this slot one of these days- don’t have anything there since I did a grip change.

THANKS for this great video Luke! One question: In terms of the USBC pattern, did you (or would you) use a specific layout for the Ink (or the other two balls) or do you just put something close to your preferred 5x3.5x2.5 layout?

i am a two hander with 450 rpms and about 16,2-16,7 mph.. ^^ so i would benefit from a ball like the hyroad pearl i think.. i also throw an idol pearl but that ball gets a litte bit too flippy when the lanes starting to burn up.. I only have one 3ball bag and using a spare ball.. so i dont have much to choose from.. i usually go with my trident abyss for really oily lanes and for later games i change to the idol pearl. what would you recommend luke?? HyRoad Pearl or Hustle Ink?? I Like to play straighter angles because that minimizes my error ratio.. xD
@LukeRosdahl
@LukeRosdahl 4 жыл бұрын
Hyroad Pearl gets down the lane easier but has a bit more pop, Ink is a little earlier and smoother. Belmo uses the Hyroad Pearl a lot but I don't think I've ever seen him throw the Ink, so you might be better off following his lead and going the HRP route. I have a two hander on one of my league teams and he has an HRP that he throws most of the time and does really well with.

@@LukeRosdahl As a 2 hander with similar stats to Tenpinmaster, do you believe it would be overkill to have both a HyroadP AND a urethane like the Pitch Black or Purple Hammer? Currently I'm running - Pro Motion, PhysiX, AstroPhysiX, IQ-Emerald, Hustle Ink, Plastic. I'd like to sneak a urethane in there somewhere so I'm thinking about taking out the INK and IQ-E for the HyRoadP (drilled stronger than my INK, slightly weaker overall than IQ-E) and some sort of urethane. I also own a Phaze 2 and Allroad lol. I'd love your input here!

For me personally, yes. I talk about it in the video here, but the Pearl is a rounder shape that I think is a little more effective. Obviously Belmo has done well with the Hyroad too, I just think it's a little too sharp most of the time and cuts a little too hard through the pocket.

Hey luke, first off thanks for what you do for the bowling community. I have 2 house shots that play similar to what it sounds yours does. one being more sportish and one being more walled. I can’t stop throwing my pro motion but here is a good question, if you could only bring 2 balls outside pro motion that you throw more for house shot at your area which is these Keep in mind we all aren’t staffed and I have wasted my fair share on balls lol. I’m a solid junkie on balls cause the cleanness iq tour pro motion and such. I wanted to try idol pro but it kind of didn’t make sense because the pro motion I have. Also for my goto on the more sportish I have a dare devil danger still but it has run its course I was gonna replace it with a phaze 3 but still hesitant. My danger seems to be more midlane chugging could be the drill also but it seems more mid lane than most so when it sees friction it will go. Also if you mention a pearl as one of the others it won’t help me much cause I don’t get along with pearls anymore I’m opposite I used to only bowl with pearl cause my rev rate even with speed to match. Thanks in advance keep up the good work!!!

Monst'R Srt4 Thanks! Idol Pro and Pro Motion don’t actually overlap for me at all, Pro is a lot punchier down lane. yeah i actually have a hustle ink its worn out now had it about 2 years it's still in the bag. I have a considerate understanding of bowling i have quite a few 300 games myself i just have been a see it roll and drill it guy honestly sometiimes you see numbers on a ball punch it up and it makes no sense so thats where good people like yourself taking time to roll all these balls help me see motion. i guess i was being unfair asking what you would take im kind of in one of those drill something up benchmark moods with the phaze 3 out i have already missed out on the crux prime and idol pro. Im not sure if i should drill up a phaze 3 or idol pro or crux prime. crux prime is mentioned just because i love the spec cover but again if im looking for that motion i have no problem throwing my pro motion is why i ask out of the phaze 3 and idol pro.

I love this type of stuff though and a lot of your in depth looks. Keep it all going please! Maybe you could do something by lumping pattern archetypes together? Like for example "on flatter usbc type patterns of X length I go with ABCDEF, but on Y length i leave out B and go with ACDEF."

Yup, you hit it on the head there. Too much longer and people get bored and lose interest. I’m going to do some stuff on patterns and lane surfaces and stuff to try and break down some of it. I’m also going to do a “directors cut” for the ufo, or basically like they’ve been doing with the uncut stuff lately, I’ll just get really deep on stuff for like 10 minutes. Trying to add as much stuff as possible, trying a few new things with the UFO so we’ll see what happens

When you pack for a tournament do you pack 6 balls based on the legnth of the oil pattern or do you bring the same balls to each tournament, regardless of the pattern? For example, would you bring 6 balls that work well on a long and heavy pattern even accounting for transition or would you bring some transition balls that would work on a medium pattern as the transitional balls?
@tomwood975
@tomwood975 4 жыл бұрын
For example, If I knew that I was going to a long and heavy pattern, I would bring a Gravity Evolve, Code Red, AstroPhysix, Idol and Phase II. Would that be sufficient to get me thru the entire tournament or too redundant and should have something like an Idol Pearl or All Road to use for transition instead of all 6 of the other balls? I am just at a loss as to what to pack if I am only going to bring 6 balls to a specific pattern tournament.

Are you going to get a pitch purple from the international releases from Storm? I've seen higher rev players always carrying a purple hammer which the pitch purple looks like the same shape from what I've seen from Chad's Instagram post on it. I know from watching everyone else, having a purple hammer is quite valuable when the lanes are a complete mess and you need a ball to create shape, especially on high volume, short patterns (like the Sydney and Wolf), which give you the urethane early hook and reactive strong motion downlane.

Depends more on the conditions than the bowler style. They definitely help crankers get the ball down the lane, but they can also help lower rev bowlers get a stronger move on the backend.

Not really . . but I'm making these specifically so people can go out put together the best bags possible with the equipment that's available now. Hyroad Pearl is a really good option that would be in the mix anyway, I personally would prefer a Hectic, but I'd also gladly take the HRP if the Hectic wasn't an option. I actually can't bring myself to drill the last Hectic I have, so I've been using a Hyroad T, which is an overseas Hyroad Pearl, and it's been amazing, so to tell the truth I haven't really missed the Hectic.
