After looking into just how bad the car really is, I realized the only solid body panel was the roof. With the cost to make it clean, I would be into the car at least twice its value. I took this opportunity to not only build my first rat rod, but to check something off my bucket list. The car is moving right along, as it gets a new gnarly paint job.

I look at it this way Bri, you have saved this car from the recycling heap. It has been stabilized, given a second life and will be a fun driver. Over the years, it will appreciate to the point where throwing another 10k at for a modest resto will be a no brainer. Start scrounging parts now as they only get more expensive. It’s all a journey, enjoy it! Well done.

Brian that is AWESOME!!! I have rattle canned a lot of 🚗 in my day!! Lol but seriously one of the best jobs I did was on my buddies 1972 Chevelle. I used only rustoleum, primers and paint, cleaned out 3 Homedepots for the "sunburst yellow" and gloss black for the SS stripes!! Not one person could believe that it was a rattle job!!! Also FREAKING AWESOME to hear you're teaming up with Randy from Auto Auction Rebuilds on the Coronet!! I hope you can keep the 326 and the Trans from his car and do 2 videos; rebuilding the 326 and rebuilding the old cast iron Trans!! Rebuilding stuff like that is a dying art, and it is sooo hard to find anyone to pass the knowledge on!! Looking forward to the next video!! Thanks again for the great videos!!!

I like the down and dirty rattle can "fogged" red paint effect. Gave me a little inspiration. My approach might be more of medium/dark blue matte applied in the same manner and areas as your red. My blue accents would be over a medium grey primary body color. Just wanted to say, I liked the creative twist to the "textbook" rat rod recipe. Thanks for posting.

Anybody reading this do your self a big fat favor when puting on or replace brake lines fittings ect. On the threaded brake line bolt apply teflon tape and snugg down tight . After snugging the bolt run a little bit of gasket sealant from a tube around the back of the bolt where the line goes in . this does two things - keeps rust from welding the threaded nut to the brake line and the tape keeps the threaded bolt from rust welding to the main part like the master cylinder, proportioning block , wheel cylinder and the brass block on the rear end or rubber brake line fittings. I still say you need a skull with bat wings across the hood or the gargoyle with bat wings or even a skull with a lightening bolt going through it sideways . flat white paint for the hood skull layout like on the red car from 2nd mad max road warrior movie

Do you think early 70,s cars can be rat rodded? That's a cool car, hard to come by. So don't let her be too rough, would be nice to look not too hawkish looking. Will be a fun ride. Just keep on keep,n on.

One there not susposed to be used dry a little liquid soap and water helps......and you can use hot glue and stick it on you got PDR painless dent removal. Plus they are good for holding glass to install and move around in gasketed windshields.

That looks totally bitchen!! You have inspired me to continue on my 'poor man's paint job' of my '65 Studebaker. I like the 'drove through heLL' concept! Good job with those Turbo cans! At some angles, the black and red combine to make a nice shade of burgundy. I like this a lot better than the stock color.Good call on keeping the side markers. I'll continue to follow along on this build!

@@LunarOutlawsGarage I get it/ sometimes you need some quick gratification so as not to lose interest in a project. For me, I keep more of a mechanical mindset. I have what a lot of people would consider a beater (84 squarebody truck), but it runs good, has cold a/c, and is very reliable. This allows me to make little cosmetic fixes here and there, and not hate the thing, or get completely overwhelmed.

Should have used Rust-Oleum Turbo. Then Rust-Oleum 2x clear coat. They turn out acceptable paint jobs. Way better than typical rattle cans with a 3in cone pattern. It has a wide about 12 fan. Not a cone. More professional quality results. But it only comes in two colors I believe i may be wrong. This will not be a as good as a shop. But with good prep, close. Thinking of doing that on my 4runner. Oh and a pdr kit would have worked much better for you.

@@JT-un7dc painless dent repair. You can buy the basics kits for about 50 to 100. More delux kits will be more expensive... They're very effective. And simple to use. Yes you may need to repeat the process multiple times. But it's faster, more efficient, more cost effective.
