Man, I gotta say. We’re from up North, & we are hardcore lovers of Southern Rock. Natives of a small farming town in Connecticut, all of the Southern Rock influences were a major part of our upbringing. Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers Band, Molly Hatchet, The Outlaws, Black Oak Arkansas, The Charlie Daniels Band, Blackfoot, & so many other Killer bands. We loved them just as much as the Southern States. It’s all we listen to.

My father's generation of musicians lit the world on fire and made such great music that we listen to it today. It's really too bad you can't take people back to those times and 'feel' the times. It seems like a real miracle to get 5 different people together and make music on this level. You never know when you are going to die so get out and make the most of every minute and share your gift with the world.

I was floored when Street Survivor came out. I had only been playing guitar for three years but I had already learned the whole album not knowing they would be in the airplane wreck. My brothers had tickets for Zepplin at the time when Bonham died. Through the pain of it all. I startd writing music and haven`t stopped since. After moving from Chicago to Hotlanta when I was fourteen, I was always asked to play some Skynard. They always freeked out when I could play every song Skynard wrote.

A one hour episode is not the whole story. What is sad is that neither Ed King nor Al Kooper were involved in this episode. Without either of them, Skynyrd would not have been what they became.

Everyone always forgets Ed King. He was instrumental in the success of the band early on. He wrote Sweet Home Alabama which put them on the map. He played guitar on every album but Street Survivors and Live at the Fox. Sorry but Johnny is not skynyrd, and either is Madlock. So get if over it. They are a cover band with one original member. By law they should not be able to use the name. Ed King was and is still fantastic. He quit to escape Ronnie's drunken antics.....

I’m building a guitar from wood from the Hell House original Dock, and foundation from Hell House, and incorporating metal from the plane. Once it’s complete we will loan it out to touring musicians so those timber’s will continue to sing and vibrate. LLLS. Long Live Lynyrd Skynyrd.. if anybody knows Gary Rossington I’d love for him to sign it when complete, or donate a pick, or something I can incorporate into it. Tell him to hit me up.

@MrPamelanygard Well i heard Billy do a few versions of what happened at the crash site. Artimus saved our lives. 10 years down the road is when all the bullshit started to come out. I always go with what they say first. First instinct is most likly what really happened. then people get mad or angry and they strike out at a old friend. I just have to tell myself all the time. Ronnie would not put up with all this bullshit. He was the glue that built and held it all together. May they all R.I.P

i really dont know why some of you just want to knock down Johnny...I'm not a guy from the South,Im not even American so I dont fully understand all the "background stuff" thats goin on with this matter..BUT when it comes to dealing with such tragedies,I think that criticizing a man for his singing style or saying "he did it for the money",is completely superficial and dead wrong. He OWNS every right to do whatever he wants, because in the end,it all is a FAMILY MATTER, and btw, he sings amazing

Well I dont believe Ronnie left the band name , muzic , ect,ect to her. She was his wife at the time of the crash. This is a automatic thing. It all went to her or fell at her feet. Ronnie's name was on all the paper work for the band. Ofcourse there were side contracts as to protect the rest of the band member's. Ronnie was thinking way ahead of thing's. But he was in charge of all the legal stuff. Allen & Gary, they all trusted him to handle the legal affairs of the band. Ronnie was the boss...

Well I guess they all knew the fans wanted a tour of some kind. No one wanted it left in a swamp in Ms. So the Tribute tour was put in the works. Everyone wanted to see this. It was a good thing. It was needed by the fans that were waiting on them on the Street Survivors Tour. I seen them 5 days before the crash. Why did she change her mind on the rule of 3? I would say for the money. No other reason to tour as them. Than the money. But call it what it is a tribute band. Dont try to become them!

Well there's at least one thing we agree on...Johnny doesn't sound one bit like Ronnie. I don't think that's a prerequisite for the job though. Yes, Leon said that, but then he did it anyway. You have your opinion, I have mine. That's all they are, opinions. It is what it is...the current band's name is Lynyrd Skynyrd, last time I checked. Ain't a damn thing any of the old Skynyrd fans (or new Skynyrd haters) can do about it. I guess Judy could, but the money's too good for her to.

Ok, sounds like you've done some fact checking. Why would Ronnie leave the name to Judy when he, Gary, and Allen were the founding members? I guess only he could answer that. Maybe you know the answer to what made Judy change her mind about letting them continue?

After the Crash. The rest of them got together with Judy and made the rule of 3. This rule meant they could NOT tour under the Skynyrd name unless they had 3 original member's in the band. Well we can all see greed & money can break rules. They dont have but one original member in this traveling circus side show at best. I truly believe Ronnie may be punching each one in the head when they arrive at the gates. Calling them greedy fuks. Then welcoming them home. But business first!! Then welcome

@ southernborn You really don't know the whole story. Mr Lacy was so devastateded when Ronnie died and thought the music had come to an end, that it was he who talked Johnny into carrying on with the music. Johnny refused for a long time and finally gave in in respect for his Dad. He had an up and coming career of his own at the time he started fronting for LS

@Gecko7291971 some people only see what they want to see. some people can see and tell when they are seeing raw emotions. I have seen who is really playing tribute to his friends and former band mates and who is trying to hi-jack the BEST BAND EVER!!! I just look around and think Ronnie would never want his band reduced to a opening act for Kid Rock. Just my "personal Humble opinion" and nothing else. P.S I think Ronnie is waiting for them in the after life. some might have some explaining to do

3:30 to 4:00 is the best part of this whole video... We dont want to bleed off the Lynyrd Skynyrd Name. Well not until Johnny got involved. They are sucking as much blood money* out of the name as they can get. When it was the rest of the originals. they would not play under the Skynyrd name. Should they have done the Tribute tour? Ofcourse. But sadly this is when Johnny found out he could make a good living off his dead brothers band or he would be touring under the Johnny VanZant band name...

Nope. Judy sued them all in 1987 / 1988.. This took all the profit's from the tribute tour. So it was typed out and signed by a Judge on legal court filing's in Duval county fla. But Judy did sign have to sign off on them touring with only 2 original members at the time. Only one at this time. I guess the day will come when there is no original member in this train wreck. So much for your napkin theory. A country band at best. Maybe Judy will pull the plug one day. tour every 5 or 10 years. RIP,

No it was signed in a Lawyers office. By Judy , Gary and Allen. Said they didnt want to do anything to harm the Lynyrd Skynyrd name. Ronnie owned the Skynyrd name.with his death. It went to his wife Judy. So..Why does Gary have the right to continue running the Skynyrd name into the ground? He dosent have any right to anything. Allen was clear about this. He was ok with the tribute tour. do the tribute tour then shut it down. This is why NO new material was released Until After Allens Death.

Judy won't pull the plug as long as she is making 6 figures off of the new band. She didn't like the idea of the new band until she figured out just HOW MUCH MONEY she can make from them. I guess you are one of the ones that want Ronnie, Allen, Steve, Billy, and Leon to walk out on stage with them. Guess what - ain't gonna happen bro. Johnny got his whole family's approval before he did this. It's rock and roll dude. A self destructive lifestyle. I think the new band carries on quite well.
