Kapil was ahead of his time. Today 54 runs in 37 balls in T20 is considered to be match winning.

This Indian team and their spotless performance enroute their title victory is without doubt the best in the history of Indian cricket . The 1983 World Cup victory came out of the blue and the 2011 World Cup victory wasnt a show of domination. Whereas the 1985 World Championship witnessed India's absolute domination from start to finish.

Unforgettable match. I was just a 11 year old boy… Enjoyed watching the match with my Grandmother, mother, sister, Uncle & aunty on a Sunday. The Doordarshan said, after a certain time the match cannot be aired live, Kapil played a blasting innings & won us the match before that time. Can never forget that. Beautiful memories. Thanks for uploading this.

Kapil Dev was in his prime between 1983-1987. Batting with his usual flair and appears to be batting on a different pitch. What a player, also kudos to team management to promote him in the batting order when the game was on line and Hadlee was bowling so well. Kapil went after him and close the win for India.

@johnedward317211 ай бұрын
Yes, he was the highest wicket taker in the world cup 1983 ( world record then ) . He was the highest wicket taker again in the championship of champions tourney in 1985 ( even though he didn't play the final ) . Roger Binny was the wrecker in chief in both tournament which India had won . He was one of the best fielders in India then. Binny was a very good all rounder. He scored a ODI century against the Kim Hughes's Australians as an opener. Despite all these he didn't get what he deserves. Really an unsung hero of India.

It was an absolute treat to watch both kapil n vengsarkar in the semi final match they literally pulverized the kiwi attack. Those days we had some much balance in the team bcoz every one could bat down the order so much depth in the batting line up that is why we were able to win both the 1983 WC n 1985 BNH world championship..

This match was a day & light match at Sydney. Cutting my class at 6th standard & watched this match with hell a lot of tension. Kapil played a T20 innings & equally supported by Dhilip Vengi. Sastri & Azhar wasted 10 overs. But it was balanced by Kapil-Dhilip Duo. Sastri awarded Man of the Match not only for his fifty. But also for his bowling performance. But the fans MOM is none other than the Entertaining Hero, who is the brand ambassador for Palmolive, that cleanly shaved the Kiwis... Ever Green Memories of Eighties...

DD was supposed to shelve telecast of the match due to some preoccupied programs... And suddenly KD came, conquered and won the game before DD stops the telecast. And i remember the commentator in Hindi said " Shayad Kapil ko malum padhgaya ki telecast rukne wala hai... Unhone match pahlehi khatam kardi"... Great words

Before this Mini world cup in 1985, the quality of cricket telecast on Doordarshan used to be very poor. And till then people were used to see cricketers in White dresses. Suddenly people were stuned to watch high quality telecast by Channel 9 & players in coloered dresses. In our city the television era has started just one year ago in 1984. So lot of people didn't own Television yet. I was in 11 3:03 th standard at that time. I still remember our hall used to be full with neighbourhood children watching live telecast. Great electric atmosphere.. And luckily India too performed very well & won all the matches & finally the Cup very convincingly ... Sweet memories of those moments still linger in the heart.

One cannot help but notice at least 2 times the slight sarcasm of commentators towards India and once lack of knowledge. 1. At 34:00 onwards the discussion about the bowler who Ravi Shastri hit for six 6s culminates with commentators saying the guy's name was Tecky Raj. His name was Tilak Raj actually. 2. At 37:00 Richie Benaud says "Hadlee at the start didn't give these 'fellows' any room at all". 3. At the end Tony Greig during the presentation tries to be cheeky with Shastri and asks "will you get spare parts of Audi in India?", to which Shastri gives one back by saying "in India you can get anything if you are ready to pay the price". 👍🏼 These looters of our land even till the mid 80s were full of pride. We have come a long way since. The contribution of these cricketers too can't be written off completely.

Pakistan were even more formidable in the 90s - Wasim, Waqar with their deadly reverse swings when the ball got old. Indian wickets used to fall like 9 pins. In spin department they had Saqlain Mushtaq. Saeed Anwar always used to play well against India. Salim Malik and Ejaz Ahmad were good too. Afridi used to come up with quickfire innings. More than now as a 90s kid, I think Pakistan was very strong in 90s.
