The M4 bayonet for the M1 Carbine and the M5A1 bayonet for the M1 Garand share the same blade as the M3 fighting knife. The M6 bayonet for the M14 Rifle and the M7 bayonet for the M16 series of rifles also use this iconic blade. I also share an Imperial combat/utility knife with the same style of blade.

That Imperial knife (with the saw back) brings back memories. My brother had that knife in the late 70s. He was a bit crazy and would like to go camping out over night at the beaches in NYC back then. So when a gang of thugs one night attacked him he had to use it to defend himself. That knife saved his life.

I was in the army in the army late 80s. I also bought m7s from the px at ft bragg and jumped with it many times. I loved that sheath. I ditched the chessy survival junk that came in the pouches in one pouch I put a magnesium fire starter and in the other I carried a mini silva ranger compass. I lost my m7s in a car that was stolen after the army. I miss that knife.

I don't remember how much I paid for that M7S in the PX but it couldn't have been too much. I got my money's worth for sure.

If I remember right it was around 35$ most guys were getting big gerbers and stuff like that. I wanted to buy one at a gun show once but wasnt will to spend the 80 they were asking.

Yeah the m3 was the daddy of all of those. Originally m1 carbines for the infantry and paratroops didnt have a bayonet lug because it was supposed to be a fighting rifle, just a personal protection device for soldiers that were not normally a rifleman. Those that got the carbine got the m3. Then when the bayonet lug was introduced the bayonet itself was introduced and was infact an m3 with a latch and muzzle ring.

Nice pieces of history there thanks for showing them , I've liked your military knife reviews. I picked up a Remington 1907 pattern bayonet last weekend dated 09-15. Came with an Australian '42 dated scabbard but I still like it.

Andrew, lots of those 1907 pattern bayonets made it to Australia for use on the SMLE No1 MKIII.. If yours had an Aussie scabbard that is actually really cool! I don't think I've ever seen one for less than $100.00.. The Aussies were carrying No1 MKIIIs in WW2.

Thanks for the reply. Yes they aren't cheap, I paid 200 Australian don't know how much with a correct scabbard but only Mole and Vickers made fewer in WW1 according to what I've read so far.

@@STEVEOMEMES I'm not an expert on M1 carbine mags, but there is a ton of info out there. People collect the M1 carbine mags because there are so many different variations. Check out a site call AmmoGarand dot com. I get a lot of Garand parts from them and they always have the right parts. They sell M1 carbine stuff too.

if you mean sawback teeth like the Glock 81 field knife, they work and are very useful for clearing scrub, creating large meat wooden joints (also simple notches etc) plus doing it all quieter and far neater than chopping. if you look at reviewers of these knives trying to cut hardwood logs in their garden ....It's not for that!

It is in an M8A1 scabbard. It originally came in a non-military scabbard that had a camo cover and pockets for survival gear.

donavan tew, M4 bayonets are getting harder to find at reasonable prices, but I always look at online auctions and at gun and knife shows. They are still out there and sometimes you can score a good one at a good price. M5 bayonets are still pretty abundant and I got mine from the Civilian Marksmanship Program (cmp dot org) sales page.

If the m4 or mk2 hav plastic on end of handle I heard there post ww2. Pretty sure. I have nice ww2 collection. None with that plastic
@FreeAmericaChannel
@FreeAmericaChannel 3 жыл бұрын
The M4 contract called for the plastic spacers on the leather handles of the M4s during WW2. Check out M.H. Cole's "Best of US Military Knives," page 141. Post-war M-4s had all-plastic handles, two sides, just like the M7s. MK2 knives may have black or red spacers, but not plastic during WW2, as you said.
