Yeah, my input shaft broke on the back side of the gear on the shaft. I think maybe the pilot bearing in the fly wheel, haven't looked, I'm replacing anyways. I have only one bb on the main shaft, and I may be missing the one on the cluster gear. I noticed you didn't have one. It's 1/4" and a steel bb shot I have fits. lol. I hit it with a ball peen, and it barely dented it. I may use it, but I do have to go into town. I live in the hills, so I may use a hillbilly bb.

If you grab the input shaft and it has excessive movement up and down , replacing the main bearing will only mask this problem. In 30,000 miles it will have the same problem. If this the case, you need to buy the kit with a new input shaft and countershaft in it. This is what causes the slop in input shaft , which in turn will eat up your clutch and or throw out bearing prematurely. This a very common in these transmission. It will also cause the input shaft needle bearing to wear out and it will make noise and rattle. This is the first thing to check when you overhaul a transmission like this.

so my 92 explorer has this unit. I hear what sounds like a clicking noise or valve tapping type noise. It started slightly only when in 5th. then it moved to 3rd at high rpm getting on fwy. Noise goes away in 4th. I do not hear any bearing noise in neutral or do I feel any kind of anything on shifter, like a vibration or transfer of bearing wear. I got it home and going down a small hill in 3rd, letting off gas to let engine brake my speed it really got loud and sounded like I was going to lose a pushrod lol. But I have no valve issues with engine that is only to describe noise since you can't hear it. Right now it is cold and we have gotten snow here n there. I have to take it out and think it could be a clutch issue, maybe a broken spring on disc or pressure plate. I thought I felt the clutch pedal feel a bit different but not sure it was for a moment. I do know taking it out will determine if it's a clutch issue or maybe slave is loose on front, however if it's not what would be your best guess on internals of trans that would cause the noise. Mind you it shifted fine and am not thinking a broken brass. Thank you for your help in advance.

I'm in the process of inspecting the 5 speed manual trans off my 2001 civic LX. Do you possibly have its clearance specs for the shift forks and synchronizer?

It's difficult to shift into 1st (at a stop) unless I shift into 2nd first then into 1st. Also I have to pause before shifting into 3rd and 4th otherwise it doesn't shift easily. What could be causing this? The end of my input shaft is worn from a bad pilot bearing, so I'm definitely replacing that.
