Johnny is wrong about Daniel's shot not being more mechanical than Pan's and here's why: After Daniel's touch sends his car backwards, Daniel needs to change the direction of his car in the air immediately (this isn't the only point in which Daniel changes directions during this shot). After that, Firstkiller is ready to challenge the ball, so Daniel has to move quickly. Daniel pre-flips to catch the ball perfectly and lift it above Firstkiller. Let's back it up for a moment though because here is the most crucial aspect of Daniel's goal that makes it so mechanical. Prior to the preflip, Daniel's car is facing the wall (a 10 o'clock angle). He needs to be facing a 2 o'clock angle to position his car and the ball toward the goal to score. Daniel, therefore, must achieve three crucial steps simultaneously in order to score, and here is what he does: (1) He preflips and catches the ball perfectly to setup an airdribble, (2) he elevates the ball above the challenging defender, (3) and this is the hardest step to achieve IMO, he completely changes the angle at which his car and the ball are moving. To top it all off, he swiftly positions his car underneath the ball to flip reset the ball over a defender who has full boost.

Simply put: last year’s format was better. Valued consistency and gave more LANs, variety of formats so that the formats’ unfairness evens out.

there is no way a psycho is considered more mechanical than Daniel's goal. A goal that can happen by accident is not as mechanical as something that requires blending 4 mechanics into one. A psycho also just relies on the entire other team being pushed up

As someone who plays competitive RL Daniels goal is way harder to recreate for an average rl player. Another can get lucky with a insane psycho goal but to do what daniel did you actually need to have mechs

That Sphinx shot was fucking sick but Zen has never done that on LAN or in RLCS. That was a whole level of uniqueness where the ball pinches the player downward into the double tap. Phenomenal play out of Sphinx!

i agree with JB on the fact that Dan shot happens in 1v1, but he did it in on 3 players, not 1, which in my opinion, makes it better than a psycho, where you're just going for a shot that can be practiced in freeplay and the defense may or may not save it

personal opinion, Gen G has dodged the pressure from poor performance early but are potentially a better matchup for EU than G2. But I think this major is just an intro to for the newly formed NA teams and World is the real prize. I expect something similar to happen for NA that has happened for Gen G in these 3 qualifiers, meaning they'll find their form by worlds after creating counters to EU playstyles

Daniel tests many aspects of your game 1) dodge angle and timing 2) cancel angle and timing 3) insane reaction to the ball bounce after hit to switch the momentum to the right 4) carrying the ball while conserving boost 5) separating the car from the ball to create enough space to rotate the car for a perfect flip reset the 2nd goal all I can say about is that Chronic scored 3 similar in one ranked game.

Okay here's a take though, What if the swiss stage IS the playoffs and should be treated as such. There are a lot of tournaments in both sports, and esports that have format changes throughout the playoffs. top 16 is a pretty normal amount to have as a play off if you don't want to start right at the quarters.

To be fair to LG, they were only close to losing to Spacestation because they lost to Dig, NRG, and Omelette, and they have won all their recent matchups against those said teams and fixed the mistakes that caused them.. They looked dominant against those 3 teams in the rematch and definitely looked on form top 4 in NA. Def good enough to make the question between SSG and OG instead of SSG and LG. Also LG has kept games close and remember they won the event before rlcs and came 2nd in bandits on wheels, and before any RLCS games happened they were quite a few people's only hope of beating g2. Retals said they "had their number in scrims" and it showed in their matchups atleast a little bit considering they werent getting SLAMMED in the games, they were competitive throughout despite overall looking like they werent playing to their full potential

The transition is what makes it very mechanical, I cannot stress how difficult it is to transition from the situation Daniel had to literally improvising to get the reset with the limited boost he had. you mention oce and say "its not another throwing situation" but i think you are wrong. i think its so blatantly important to dodge the 1 seed in quarters that this happens all the time. its just not as ridiculous as YMC throwing 2 series in a complete sweep. its more like hey guys we can prob go easy this series its ok if we lose a game or 2. like if you think teams dont realize that getting 2 extra losses will increase their odds of winning an extra 10g$ in prize pool and increase their chances at going to a lan you are insane. i believe this is happening in almost every region when they have time and they look at where they are they predict what seed they are and will happily manipulate that seed. games are chaotic so it doesnt always work out perfectly but i bet it happens every event in this format to some degree. bottom line its just an awful format that has huge benefits and incentives for teams to manipulate their wins and losses. we should have a format that incentivizes winning this format is awful.

after hearing this discussion about Daniels goal 500 times. this is my conclusion. Daniels goal is better, although some (like johnny) can argue that Pans shot is more mechanical because of the sheer perfection that is needed. i feel like the fact that Daniels shot isnt really a shot you can practice makes it more mechanical. A psycho, however perfect it is is easier to practice. The way Daniel was given the ball makes it more mechy imo. you can practive that exact scenario in a training pack, but you will SOO rarely get the chance in a game, and he just did it first try. Pans shot is REALLY GOOD but its easier to practice and therefore less mechy. Just my take, please shit on it

im gc1 and ive hit a couple psychos, ive never come close to what daniel did.

I have seen more psychos scored from pros in both ones and threes then I have “demo dodge, reverse preflip, catch airdribble flip resets” goals. Johnny I swear comes up with the most random takes. Pan’s goal is definitely insane but the precision and on-spot creativity alone of a preflip catch to airdribble alone takes more precision
