20:00 I think TBates is right. Look at Fall Guys, they laid off most of the team and actively said if they were to make it again they'd do it all in Fornite. As long as RL is under Epic, if there's a sequel then it's almost certainly going to be developed within Fortnite. They'll probably then promise it won't affect the original RL but then later down the line say they can't keep the servers going for the original RL, in the hopes everyone will jump ship to FN:RL2. Then that'll be the end of RL

Fortnite as game and content wise is way bigger then rocket league right now but as a competitive scene fortnite as def stagnated, and it’s not very well structured for a casual viewing experience either with all the cash cups and different tourneys going on. Rlcs as simple game to understand, it’s soccer but with cars and the task is simply for teams to put the ball in the other teams net. The format is usually easy to follow(albeit Swiss is more suitable to more invested viewers who have fav teams/players) and general knowledge of sports can help you understand the game. It’s criminal that rlcs isn’t a esport priority for epic games.

I still think the value on items is insane. 20$ for a black market??? Call me a cheapskate, but if a dollar got me 5 items and a BM, I'd have put thousands over the years at this point. Since the beginning I've paid maybe 40$ for one rocket pass, and a handful of esports gear. Reluctantly. I'll never understand the pricing trying to get only rich people or mommy and Daddy's credit cards, over charging a nickel and getting the majority. If I had to buy the rocket pass every season, I wouldn't. It's hundreds of odd looking gimmicks. With like 8 amazing titles, decals, explosions. Be more artsy, be more labor intensive, make amazing looking items and sell them for DEFINITELY less than what I would pay for a song on iTunes or rent a movie on Amazon. 20$??????? Edited to add: Tell me with transparency, "listen we buy these servers at this cost, and the esports cost this, this is where our budget is so far with a little thermostat, you want better servers? I'll continue to believe that if Epic implemented a seasonal compendium exactly like to Dota 2's The International but inline with the RLCS season it would be incredibly beneficial for them. Charge $5 for it and put some of the purchase price into the RLCS prizepool. In the compendium allow fan votes on special cosmetic rewards at the end of the season, put unique boxes with new items each year as a level up reward. Allow RLCS Esport exclusive item drops for watching ingame or sync it with Twitch drops and bam, you've got a crazy income source. $5 is doable for a lot of people, especially kids asking their parents and with a small portion of the price added to the prizepool really explodes the scene massively.

The reason Valorant team skins sell is because, wow shocker, they’re cool. Current RL esport skins are barely used by players and flat static paints. I’ve almost bought them a few times, but even with how cheap they are I wasn’t sure I’d use it long term. The only reason would be to support the org. Instead I spent money on their physical shop lol

Epic games Spend few months developing RL on new unreal engine w/ creative mode and provide its 500k player base new content potentially creating massive new revenue stream opportunities and growth👎 Spend over a year making entirely new unoriginal glorified hot wheels arcade game with a 6k DOA player base that will not make any revenue👍

someone tell johnny nobody is using anything in the rocket pass except for the goal explosions, sometimes the cars, and the trails. MAYBE the paint finishes. everything else is trash and they keep making trash because it’s quick, easy, and it sells because of the single 3 things that are actually cool in every pass.

The talk about what could be done to improve rocket league/rlcs is interesting but do the two have to be necessarily connected? I played the game for a few years when it came out and then my interest slowly tapered off until I might play the game once a year at this point. However, I have kept up with the rlcs since season 1 and for me, the rlcs has been the only thing keeping me attached to rocket league. I just wonder if there is anything specifically that can be done for rlcs that isn’t connected to rocket league itself to bring more attention to the esport because I want to see it prosper.

Rocket Racing should've had the car physics of RL and parkour as the "unique" mechanic of the game. Instead of just a bland racing game with 1 button to jump onto walls and stuff.

I hope the Epic wakes up and sees the long term potential of RL and puts their devs back into developing RL2. They need to nail the physics completely. The physics engine has changed in UE5 so they need a lot of big brains working on it. Rocket Racing aint it. Rocket Racing with perfect RL physics, now we're talking. This game is more than a game, the skill ceiling just keeps rising as new mechanics are being discovered. it truly is the definition of a eSport. One last thing, I don't give a fuck about cosmetics and keys/lootboxes > blueprints

Rocket racing is actually pretty fun. The drift mechanics are so dam good, it’s got to be one of the best arcade drifting game. Just needs better maps and maybe a tweak to aerials and flips. 😢 Edit: Kind of wild that tbates say it’s slow when the name of the game is to keep drifting and keeping a near top speed avg. It feels FAST. I can see why he would say that though. At the start it takes time to figure things out.

I would pay for an esports pass if it included free items or an Esports Rocket Pass that runs the full length of the RLCS Season. So the ingame RLCS monotizations would then include: Esports Team Decals, Goal Explosion and Banners, LAN Bundles, RLCS Fan Pass, Monthly Subscription to view RLCS broadcasts on twith or YT by linking your Twith or YT Account to your Epic account. RLCS Ultimate Fan Pass, Same as fan pass but include a item rewards pass similar to the Rocket Pass that lasts the entire RLCS season as long as you have an active subscription with RLCS themed items such as items themed on famous events, inside jokes, and maybe even casters.

I dont get why porting Rocket league to UE5 is taking over 4 years. Multiple games have been made from "scratch" using UE5 ( Robocop , Tekken 8 , Banishers , Lords of Fallen, etc) in less time.

I think Rocket Racing was done well beyond expectations. it got all the mech from RL: drifting, boosting, jumping, flying & flipping while changing it enough to make it an actual race game. It would be bad if it were just RL mechanics because then only the pros would be good at the game. like if you cant do a rings map in RL you won't be good at RR. Also idk why you would say "it's not mario cart/ forza". it's not meant to be. It's unique. Maybe people don't like the lack of items but that's preference. I don't like those personally.
