Macro photography, not Adaptalux but a modular LED system DIY

This is a macro photography DIY setup, it's a modular LED system, the lights are USB LED"s from IKEA and some gels for speedlights the only other thing you need is a USB hub.

These USB LED lights are great very flexible and stay in the position you set them, with this setup you can add gels to change colours easily and change where the light fall. The cost of setting this up is minimal and some great fun can be had and maybe it is a precurser to getting an Adaptalux system which is more powerful and adaptable.

Loved this! Thanks for the DIY lighting setup. I have ordered all the necessary bits and looking forward to lighting my macro photos - cost is less than $100 with six lighting arms.

Great idea. I reckon these could work well in the field with a USB power bank for about £25 too. Nice one, I'll give this a try.

Good shout with that. I've ordered five and the gels. I looked at what you said myself and thought I don't know if I can justify that price and I've read mixed reviews on it anyway. I already own a six USB hub that I use on my desktop so already got one of those. I'm relatively new to the subject but have been struggling with the lighting. My flash and softbox just don't seem to do what I want it to do, although it could be user problems. That said I was quite impressed with how well your images turned out so hopefully I get the same success.

I watched your video with great interest, and it again confirmed what I was already thinking.. "How the heck can Adaptalux justify the price of the thing they've come up with when you've done something just as good at a fraction of the cost. Thank you. Next stop IKEA!!
