Madonna has a diverse catalog with lots of genres being represented. You will discover that none of the albums are similar (unlike most artists). Madonna is an icon & trendsetter for various reasons. Thank you once again for another Madonna reaction 💗 💫

This was her longest charting #1 - - seven weeks. This video is a huge part of her lore. The iconic play ‘Evita’ was going to be made into a movie and actresses like Meryl Streep and Glenn Close were being talked about to play the role. Madonna, being extremely savvy, created this video for the single from her new ‘’Bedtime Stories’ album and portray herself as an Evita like character. She sent the video to the movie director before it was released publicly. She got the part. She won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a musical or comedy for it.

I love Take A Bow. One of her best ballads imho. Love the way she and Babyface on backing vocals sound, and that string arrangement. and of course her rolling around in bed with the tv.... only Madonna. But Ray of Light era is my favorite Madonna (her best album, no skips).

Madonna's catalogue is so vast that there is room for hit and misses. Take a Bow is one of those songs that, as beautifully done as it is, you have to be in that mood and mind set to appreciate it. Every album has something for everyone and each is different that the previous.

If you want to review one of her best ballads, would highly recommend "Live to Tell". It's a gorgeous, haunting track. Think you'd appreciate the production choices they made on the track as well. And her vocals are quite raw and vulnerable.

My favorite era is this one, her Bedtime Stories album, 1994-1995. And also her "Erotica" era, 1992-1993. Those are my favorite eras where I think she was the most creative in terms of music videos and she made her best music. Please react to "Human Nature" and "Secret".

When you go to Madonna's site and open up the Music page, her discography is there in 3 rows - for me those can even be 3 distinct eras of sound and writing that are different in a lot of ways but are still linked together. The bottom row is when I discovered her - I love that sound. Quintessential. Middle row is epic stuff, germaine to who she is as a writer and performer and how she grew fast through the LAV/LAP days. Top row is galaxy brain Madonna, and this is her truly masterpiece material is. But - on the regular, I wear out "Everybody" and "Burning Up" off that first album. I honestly wish she would reproduce them because to me this album IS the heart of her sound.

My favourite period of Madonna was the "True blue" era ( maybe because i was born in 1986 the year this album was released?) it's still the biggest selling album of her career, 5 cult hits and videos ( "live to tell" such a classic 80s ballad). That girl was at her PEAK, married to superstar Sean Penn, she still was hungry for more mondial recognition and still had innocence in her eyes, she went from being a superstar with teenage fanbase ( "Madonna" and "Like a virgin" albums) to the QUEEN of 80s pop ( sorry Cindy Lauper) with the adults falling in love with her music. She gave herself 100% on scene dancing her a** off and singing LIVE ( very strict diet, very hard training) her 80s Marilyn Monroe look was fierce, she looked like an athletic porcelain doll. My parents had the Who's that girl 1987 tour Italy concert on VHS, many people in my country recorded it ( retransmitted by italian tv Rai Uno), one of the biggest 80s world tours ( with Michael Jackson "Bad tour" same year 1987), her concert in Paris " Park des sceaux" is still the biggest show ever done in France ( French TV channels news covering it ) the President Jaques Chirac meeting her ( he was still a minister back then, his daughter was a fan). Sorry for long writing but she was a cultural phenomenon back then, nothing comparable in the 90s ( excluding blond ambition/vogue era) and 2000s, she lost that spark, that joy, she started to take herself too seriously. She just lost the path in the early 90s basically ..

In 1995 I was quite surprised Take A Bow made it to #1 and stayed there for a long time! What I couldn't understand that her previous single Secret didn't reach the top? It reached only #3(which is good too). Madonna was ultra experimental in the 90s! You just couldn't guess what's coming next? My fav is Into The Groove by her - I can always listen to that one, the vibe, the energy it always cheers me up but for a split second it makes me feel strange because 1985 seems like yesterday to me. It's hard to swallow at times that so much time has elapsed and still going to elapse and all of a sudden I'm in my esrly 40s 2021 still feeling the same as I did with 18years of age, no aches, no nothing, no wrinkles, no hairloss, just energy to go on and on, really lucky I guess. All these though thru this one song.... Susaaaaaaan....

In Australia, Take a Bow was a minor hit. Rain was her most popular ballad here in that era, by far. Meanwhile Bedtime Story, which flopped in the US, had a solid top-5 run and was a massive club hit. Same in the UK. And the video (my all-time favourite video by ANY artist, alongside Oh Father) got a lot of airplay.

Her vocals here prior to her Evita voice training never sounded so soothing smooth as silk that's why it was her longest no. 1 hit. You won't be impressed at first hearing but give it a few more listen then you're hooked. That's what I experienced myself during its time of release but then this has legs and grows on you.

OK so with Madonna it's never easy and always an adventure. Over a career spanning 4 decades she was always moving and artistically exploring and never doing anything twice. And she has rarely, if ever, missed the mark. I do think yr next song should be Live to Tell from 1986.The first single from her massive True Blue album and one of the most hauntingly beautiful and timeless songs ever written. Her voice is so raw and bruised and honest that it takes your breath away and the songs whole atmosphere and meaning doesn't leave you once you've heard it. Written by Madonna and her constant collaborater in her earlier years Patrick Leonard for the brilliant film At Close Range starring her then husband Sean Penn and Christopher Walken. Her vocals were recorded in one take after she wrote the words to the song as is. The beauty and wisdom and uniqueness of this song will give you chills and take you to another place. It is without equal. It was a worldwide number one smash single and ppl were stunned that a year after Like a Virgin she released something so different and daring. She's always done that up to the present day. J

This song is so well written, produced and backing vocalled by Babyface. You can pick out lines of almost poetic Shakespearen resonance ‘this masquerade is getting older’ ‘one lonely star, you don’t know who you are’ ‘I’ve always been in love with you, I guess you’ve always known It’s tirue’ ‘it comes so easy, when you get to the part where you’re breaking my heart’ ‘you deserve an award for the role that you play’. Bravo Babyface. It’s an under appreciated pop/R&B masterpiece

I suggest you listen to "YOU'LL SEE", which is the sequel" to this song (not related in the production, but the lyrical content, seems to be the story's progression). That song in particular encapsulates the raw emotion "of moving on from a bad relationship" in such a beautiful, and self empowering way. It really is a gem that only the hardcore fans understand its underestimated value.

It’s hard to compete with Papa Don’t Preach, Frozen and Like a Prayer. But this song was number one on billboard for so many weeks back in the day. When it comes to me, my favorite Madonna period is probably between 84 and 98, with a few exceptions after 98 as well. Songs I’d suggest to you: sooner or later live from the Oscars 1991, if you like straightforward pop songs you’d probably enjoy Like a Virgin, Material Girl and Vogue. For me personally like a prayer is number 1, I also love Secret, Bedtime Story, Live to Tell and The Power of Goodbye. Btw thank you for your Madonna reactions. Always great to watch.

I like the fierce and unapologetic Madonna, the one that she expresses her ideas about life and society in general and when she sings about controversial topics, and politics. I like her less when she sings too romantic, that's why my favourites albums/songs are the controversial ones and the ones when she expresses her anger. Songs like Papa don't preach, Like a prayer, Human Nature, American Life, God control, Dark Ballet. The whole albums Erotica, American Life, Madame X. I suggest you watch her speech at the Billboard 2016 woman of the year, you will get to know her a bit better after you hear what she had to say...

I've read that, in creating this song with Babyface, Madonna wanted to produce something with a Cantopop sound. If that is true, then she nailed it. This song, particularly in the arrangement of the keyboard and strings, echoes much of the romantic music produced in Hong Kong during this era.

My favorite Madonna song is "Open Your Heart." It's a very nostalgic song for me. It came out when I was six years old so it's one of her first songs that I remember hearing on the radio all the time, and one of the first I remember seeing the music video for on MTV. Otherwise, I tend to prefer her slower songs like this one, Frozen, You'll See, Crazy For You, and Live to Tell.

As in most of her music videos, Madonna spared no expense to capture the artistic feel she wanted here-filming this in 1994 in Spain, in a real bullfighting arena, casting a true-to-life matador, and 1940s style fashion look. She made a sequel to this mv in-You’ll See-also from the same 1995 ballad compilation album-Something To Remember. Interestingly, at this time she was lobbying to get the lead role for the Evita film musical, and she sent a copy of this video with a four-page handwritten letter to British director Alan Parker detailing why she’s best to portray Evita. It worked, and the rest is history.

Take a Bow is part 1 The second video is 'You'll See' Take A Bow is a hit or miss. It's an acquired taste that you have to be in the mood for. The early 90's saw a whole slew of ballads from Madonna...Take A Bow, I'll Remember, You'll See, This Used to Be my Playground, and many more. That's not to say she doesn't have Ballads on her albums because she does but she released a album compilation called "Something to Remember" with all the ballads of the time on it.

Check out Bad Girl, not one of her more popular songs as on the billboard but a great video and good song and Christopher Walken is in the video.

Who would think her biggest hit is a ballad? It’s beautiful but certainly a mood. The sequel to this is You See. Beautiful too. In the same vain. When it comes to Madonna ballads and when it comes to one of her best songs in my opinion is Live to Tell. Would love to hear your interpretation of that epic song.

This is one of my fave Madonna songs but I'll always say this song was made for Toni Braxton and the wrong person recorded it.

It's understandable that this one wasn't a hit for you - and I'm actually glad when reactors are upfront about how they feel. Not everything can be hits. And to be honest sometimes something doesn't resonate the first time around. There are some songs, especially in Madonna's 90s and later catalogue, that took me awhile before really relating to it musically. And that's because I just didn't get into R&B ballads until a certain point. That being said, I do wonder what you thought about the video itself. For me its one of her best and so beautifully made and edited. Very classic in many ways but also very smart.

Best is her first album -Madonna (1984), especially the song "Borderline". Then I would say the album Bedtime Stories (1994), especially the song "Secret".

Try I want you with Massive Attack. It's gorgeous... For a ballad. The video is inspired by Jean Cocteau's play The human voice. There's an interesting story behind every song from every album... It's hard to say what works best for most of us... She's a powerful woman asking us to go on a journey. Videos help telling that story. Rain is absolutely gorgeous. Try Rain for it's epic both music and video are top. I just know it will impact you as it's a favourite for any Madonna fan. Justify my love with Lenny Kravitz it's a must too. I mean... Try any of those for a moment of emotion. She's brilliant. And so are you.

Like a Prayer and Papa Don't Preach are masterpieces indeed but you shouldn't stop with Madonna's ballads - Bad Girl, You'll See, Live to Tell, This Used to Be My Playground, The Power of Goodbye, Time Stood Still are fantastic songs. My personal top 3 is La Isla Bonita, Papa Don't Preach and Bad Girl
