He made it look sooo smooth. Complete positional domination. Its not quite right to judge based on just one game but damn, this game shows huge difference in chess understanding between Magnus and his opponent.

Well, that was pretty clear in that position, in the next move she would have lost either her rook or her knight, followed up by more losses due to her "hopeless" position.

my goodness that was the most dominating performance ever He could have pushed that G4 pawn a few plays earlier so he didn't have to reset position. But just watching and hearing his thinking helps with how you look at chess

It is a special pawn capture that can only occur immediately after a pawn makes a move of two squares from its starting square called en passant

When a pawn is on it's fifth rank and the opponent plays adjacent pawns two squares, then only on the next move you have choice to capture it by moving your pawn diagonally to capture and removing opponents pawn. For eg. For white 2. b5 a5 (or c5) 3. bxa6(or bxc6) For black 2. ... b4 3. a4(or c4) bxa3(or bxc3)

As carlsen says: because of night f5. Rook gets trapped. And he will be at least a exchange down. Maybe he would win anyways cause of superior position but it would be much harder.

To be fair, she made one, not so obvious early mega blunder. Obvious to a world champ maybe but in blitz I think a lot of FMs fall prey to those kinds of quick deaths from time to time. In classical time controls she would never make a move like that.

I believe it's because there's very few women with a good rating. So the chance of one of the good women playing him in Banter Blitz is quite low, it has nothing to do with "equality" :P Sorry if you're just making a joke, can't really tell :)

It’s a Woman FM, wow! Tanni. She has a good rating though - The rating you have to achieve to be titled as a WMF is 2100 but her Blitz rating is 2649!

@Surtr what a silly comment. how can a hashtag make women play chess better? if women want equality in ratings they should just improve at playing chess. and they should aspire to the same FM norms that men have to achieve. currently the rating required for a woman to achieve the WFM norm is 2,100 vs. the 2,300 required for men to reach FM
