In the recent budget speech by Nirmala Sitharaman, the Daman Ganga-Pinjal river linking project was mentioned as one of the five river-linking projects. However, there have been developments regarding the implementation of these projects. The Gujarat government has cancelled the Par Tapi-Narmada river linking project, while the Maharashtra government has also withdrawn its support for another project related to the Daman Ganga-Pinjal river linkage. These decisions by the state governments were influenced by protests from the Adivasi communities. Despite the central government's keen interest in these river-linking projects, the concerns and opposition from Adivasi groups have led to these actions by the respective state governments, highlighting the complexities and challenges associated with large-scale infrastructure and development projects in India.
