Our top motor mount broke, so in this video we show you how to replace it with an aftermarket, race spec, top motor mount from Direnza (bit.ly/35lpUq0). These instructions would be the same if you were replacing the motor mount with and OEM mount. We chose this as a replacement because it seems that the OEM part is poorly designed, and since we are running a little more power than stock, it made sense to put a stronger replacement than the OEM model.

Great video and tips. My 2016 F56 with 70k miles needs replacement. Baltimore dealer quoted $1200 plus parts. I’m going with the OEM style mount I got for $85. I’m going to tackle it this afternoon. Tip, prep work, I cleaned the headlight clip threads and used a 13mm wrench to hold them still as I removed the bolt. All three came out. Keep you posted.

One tip for other people is that if you are getting your car tuned and don’t want to constantly be replacing the upper engine mount upgrade your lower engine mount (aka engine torque brace) bushing to a yellow or black bushing from Powerflex. That OEM lower bushing is crap and let’s the engine flex way more than it should and all those forces on the upper mount is what kills them so quickly.
@MiniBrothas
@MiniBrothas 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. In our case, that’s not accurate. We updated out lower transmission mount to a powerflex yellow bushing months ago when the upper engine mount was still fine. We think these upper mounts are built to fail.

The original mount is hydraulic! That s why you are now, with new mount (not OEM), feeling so much vibration, torque steer and exhaust noise/vibration as well. I think you could have used a component made by Bilstein, for instance, as long you buy an original one. And That s why this mount colapses so soon: they are very soft to avoid all problems above described, along with under mount, that allows engine to twist too much, tearing the mount you removed. This week I will replace both mounts from my 2019 JCW R56. Regards from Brazil!!

When you’re in first gear if you accelerate then let off the gas you’ll hear/ feel a knock. That’s the mount going forward where the rubber has split. It’s not going to be dangerous, but if you leave it too long the rubber can completely fall out leaving a lot of space for the engine to move. That could cause damage to multiple parts of the car.

I've installed the Direnza engine and transmission mounts + the powerflex bushing for the lower mount. It is undriveable. I like loud cars that vibrate but this is unbearable. When driving normally the car vibrates so much it feels like it's going to fall apart. I even once had the DSC turn on for no reason because of how much vibration there is. Replacing the lower mount is fine as it barely increases vibration. As for the rest, don't install the Direnzas as long as you don't use the car only for racing.
@MiniBrothas
@MiniBrothas 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. It is a bit harsh, I agree. I'm looking at ways to make it less harsh. I'm considering putting a thin rubber pad between the mount and the frame. I agree, the lower mount didn't increase vibration much, it just made shifting feel more precise.

@MiniBrothas
@MiniBrothas 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. Initially, the vibration was a lot (probably too much for the average driver), but it's been a couple weeks now and I think it's decreased.
