The only difference that I observed in your style of vlogging between when you're a roomie and now in your new home is that you're less serious now, and more bubbly (sort of not keeping your voice down), and it really shows...

Wow. My childhood "mais" story would be "binatog" in Luneta park and "durul" in Zamboanga City. My parents would take me to Luneta and we would sit to eat binatog, steamed yellow corn kernels with fresh coconut shreds and salt, after playing around. Then we moved to the province of Zamboanga. There I grew up with "durul" - a corn pudding from the yellow corn powder and milk the government would ration in every municipality. My grandma makes the best durul. She would use both coconut milk and some milk from the rations and she would not use a lot of sugar. It would be a wobbly but pretty strong pudding that would not break even without a plate. She would use banana leaves instead, and i would take it with me up the guava tree to enjoy while watching my neighbors play outside out fence. Then I grew up and learn a fancier "durul" which is he maja blanca. Whilst durul is golden browninsh and sturdy, maja blanca is white and dainty. I am sure you know maja blanca as well.

Jessica, if you wanna recreate the mais con yelo still, you can blend the ice with a bit of milk so it doesn't end up being big ice chunks like in the old video of your attempt. Can we appreciate the great quality of the production in this video?

To make "mais con hielo," you need cream-style corn, sugar, milk, and shaved ice (better than crushed ice). You can sprinkle corn flakes and add vanilla ice cream or leche flan if those are available.
@sikeysarms
@sikeysarms 2 жыл бұрын
just blend ice, a small amount of milk (just enough for it to actually blend), some sugar, and maybe add some corn to it, in a blender. Don't overdo it tho so that it's still kinda flaky or else the texture's gonna be like a smoothie or whatever. Put it in a bowl or glass and then add some corn on top then you have mais con yelo.

@StrawberrySunnyGirl
@StrawberrySunnyGirl 2 жыл бұрын
Awesome that you finally got some Mais con hielo : which is actually Spanish for corn with ice. Mais : corn Con : with Hielo : ice In Filipino spelling mais kon-yelo. This is also a childhood favourite of mine and the family debate of using CREAM CORN versus WHOLE KERNEL CORN for the mais. Helpful tip : maos is similar sounding to MAZE in the latin americas : because it is their staple food. Spanish colonization ties 😊 Gong Cha was recently acquired by the Korean Gong Cha franchisee from the parent Taiwanese company. But, yes it is korean owned now. Keep making amazing videos and i hope you can come visit or stay in the Philippines again!

Same as Tim Ho Wan, it's from Hong Kong but is fully owned by a Filipino corporation (Jollibee) now. Awesome content Jessica-shi. Normally when you buy mais con yelo, it's just pure corn, ice, and condensed milk. Sometimes you can have it with saging saba or what we call "banana mais con yelo" mix. Mais con yelo with cornflakes? I think that's a next level version of mais con yelo coz I've never seen that combination here in the Ph (Pampanga). 😂 But I would love to try it too!! ❤️ 🤗 Ingat lagi.
