Well until now I loved my wool mat. I even like the smell. But your board was a flatter block beyond any doubt. On my way to find a board because it makes sense. 👍

Thank you for this tutorial. I bought a 14x14 wool mat when I started quilting a couple years ago. I'm allergic to wool, but I thought just ironing on it would be ok... Nope, allergic to it also, can't use it. Your board will work well.

I bought a 12" square wool mat that I've been using to contain my hand-work on! I do love it that I can poke pins and needles into it, it is light and things don't roll off of it. I tried pressing on it but I had it on top of my big cutting mat and it now is a bit more warped. Sad! Years ago, I made a pressing mat with a couple of old wool army blankets over plywood. I loved it - but then got a steam press and its dresser was my only choice for a place to put it. I ended up giving the plywood setup to one of my daughters who has redone it at least once since. I kind of regret loosing the old blankets! Those were ugly but so lovely! Now I use a stair tread that was replaced. I wrap it with a towel and it works well but is heavy. I've actually gotten out my ironing board, but it becomes another working surface! Small room with way too much inside. When I'm stitching a lot, I use an old mini ironing board that fits over the top drawer in my sewing table and I have a little travel iron. New subbie, by the way!

You used 1 part ammonia to 7 parts of hot water, why ammonia and not bleach?
@podunkpretties
@podunkpretties 2 жыл бұрын
Great question, thanks for asking. Ammonia will loosen and remove the scorched starch without dulling or fading the printed fabric. If the fabric is still stained it means the fabric is burned. Then bleach could be used to help reduce the burn stain on the fabric. I rarely need to use bleach on my pressing board covers. But a couple of these white fabrics could use a good dose of bleach.
