The sleeves are to die for, I will need to hack the neckline though.... I'm often sick in winter ,so such a low neck line ;even if gorgeous is the death of me! Waiting for your next master piece ;)

Or you could make a statement scarf, really fill up the opening with something warm and windproof. Not really sure what is truly windproof, but couldn't keep that thought inside my head

I'm so glad this came up in my feed - I'm buying this pattern for sure! 😊 This is one of the best tutorials I've ever seen, too. I love how you explain so thoroughly the types of fabrics to use for the best result. I live in a hot, dry climate with mild-to-chilly winters, so the short version in denim would be *chef's kiss*. I have such a weak spot for leopard print, too, so I'm drooling over your samples. ❤ Question, though: I'm 5'1" tall and proportionately petite - how would one go about shortening the sleeves, if necessary?

Omg I know - leopard print everything... it's the best neutral for sure 😂 💕 And thanks so much - that's so cool to hear you found me from your feed - welcome! 🤩 The sleeves could be shortened by simply folding the pattern a little at the centre - it might not be necessary though - I'd make a calico/scrap fabric test sleeve first to check 👌 As a reference I'm quite small too at 5'4" 🙃 ✨

These are beautiful and the design details are so interesting, I love 💗 the loose but tailored and structured parts of everything. I think this would be an adventure to make. I really like the choices of fabric in your samples, I think this would be cute in a mid weight denim.

You say sturdy linen… but what does that translate to? I would so love this in natural tones and linen but it would have to be quite heavy, no? What weight - could you estimate? I’ve just found your channel and am so excited ❤

Ah so lovely to have you here - welcome! 🙃 For linen the weight is less important than it's structure - so you'd want one that handles quite stiffly rather than drapes softly... This can be quite hard to judge online so if you have a local fabric shop where you can feel the fabric that would be ideal or it might be a case of ordering a few sample swatches otherwise! Heavierweight linens wit htighter weaves tend to have a bit more structure but you can find lighterweight linen that has a lot of structure to it as well... hope that's helpful & not adding more confusion! ✨

This is BRILLIANT ! Do you think the collar and lapel could be made out of a fluffly faux fur fabric ? Also, do you think the coat be made longer, for us tall peeps, by adding length where the cut marking sits for the short version ?

Yes, that would be so fun! I nearly used fur on the sample as have some amazing long haired hot pink in my stash that needs a home but I decided it might be hard to see the shapes for the tutorial 🙃 For the length you can extend evenly from the hem & front facing - the limit for this will really be based on the width of the cloth - perhaps best to lay the pattern on the crosswise folded cloth first to see how much you have to play with 👌 Can't wait to see! 🤩 💕

Ah thank you! All my patterns are cut to be unisex but I tend to design on the feminine side of androgynous as it's what I like to wear myself 🙃 Quite a few masc sewists have made my Palazzos, Cocoon Jacket and Blanket Coat patterns though and they turned out so well! 🤩 💕

Hi there - sorry for the late reply, just catching up with all my messages! Do you mean machine needles? If yes I use an industrial machine but the width of the needles was 14 for this weight of cloth ✂️ And I always use Hancocks chalk markers - defo recommend! Also if you tap the tip of the pencil on your tongue before marking you get a must crisper dot 🙃 ✨

It's a spring loaded one - sometimes called an 'automatic hole punch' - I think they're most commonly used for book binding but I find them much better than the ones made for pattern drafting! 🤩 💕

I have a swing coat already. It's a vintage royal blue coat that falls at the knee, it has massive black cuffs and a massive black collar. WHAT DO I WEAR WITH IT? It had some hideously massive shoulder pads that I removed, but the sleeves are also ¾ long! Such a complicated coat!
