Considering real printed firearms have less width to them and you can beat someone to death with one (it's still an ammo shortage going on), I think plastic for a toy is acceptable. I can see aluminum for the finish and ease of laser engraving fancier designs into it, bit as for durability if these have decent wall thickness or solid you could club someone with it and the blaster will be the winner. A few parts like the springs I would do steel of appropriate thickness for equal stiffness, but it looks decent (although children are probably more rough with their toys than marines, so maybe, but good news if it breaks it's not life and death and you can print another one)

@@jakegarrett8109 I was thinking more about dropping it, or the parts of the mechanism being roughly handled, but if you wanna smack people with a toy gun....go nuts, I guess? At that point, you'd be better off making a bayonet, though.

@@Halinspark now that you mention it this definitely needs a folding bayonet for when you lead the charge in your backyard battle.

I might develop an affordable printed flintlock mechanism at some point for "gun buybacks" so you can assemble a functional flintlock in 30 minutes with a $5 iron pipe and make a profit, for which you can buy more materials and hand them out to friends for a fun pirate themed party and everyone keeps the one they assemble. As long as you use iron or steel pipe then it should be stronger than the weak brass they used to use on these (if you want the looks or rust prevention for sailing the seas consider chrome plating the pipe, or using electrolysis for DIY copper coating).

Same. It sucked how their weapons that worked "bolt action" (no batteries) had no bolt-handles so you had to move the slider on top of the guns awkwardly... at least the shotgun handle ones made more sense

3d print the action, use PVC or a metal pipe for the barrel and make the rest traditionally out of wood. If they could do it with handtools, you can do it with a tablesaw and dremmel.

Nerf darts will fit that, just print a wad (I use printed wads for Nerf in 1/2 PVC barrel), mine is also technically a firearm as it uses a hydrogen explosion making it potentially the first "fully semi-automatic burst muzzle loaded bullpup assault foam flinger" as the politicians would say. I feel free to mock them since many Nerf toys are already illegal to own near me in the US, so might as well have mine with all the political horrifying features of having a fire selector in safe/semi/3 round burst/full auto even though it's 15 seconds between shot charges so you'd have to hold the trigger for almost a minute while muzzle loading darts for even the 3 round burst. I'm interested to see if a real flintlock system could be printed and reliable, you know for all the useful "gun buybacks", and it's illegal for normal people where I live to legally own handguns at all, and still illegal to really bear a flintlock (a bear arms license is basically not possible), so I wouldn't mind making an affordable option free for everyone someday but I don't know enough about flintlocks (they are not simple like a machinegun, plus at this current time flintlocks are still legal for most areas of the US and I've always wanted a blunderbuss so I could shoot rocks at clay pigeons for fun and maybe wear a pirate hat next time I go skeet shooting for fun).
