The main reason I wanted to make this video was for:
1) You want to get started making coin rings and you didn’t want to go all in yet but you didn’t want to re buy quality tools once you did want to go all in.
2) You wanted a minimal set up for Saturday markets and shows
Using the Pepe tools ring stretcher instead of all the presses and dies works fantastic and if you’re making quarters, it’s almost all you need!
Here’s a discount code for Pepe tools!
The discount code is THEMINT pepetools.com/discount/THEMINT
Check out my website www.changeyoucanwear.net for all the jewelry I make!

Very nice video. I have been making coin ring treasures for a few years now. Your videos ( and others') got me interested and taught me the basics. Thank you for the education!

Got a coin punch today finally - not a Jason Works but cost me £68. Used a dapping block and a round punch from a 25 piece set - set cost £29.99 to cone the coin. Then a £75 ring stretcher to even it out and a light wet n dry sand on cut edge and done - my first Quarter coin ring and appears perfect! Chuffed it was good - now when i get a workshop bench etc instead of doing it on a saw horse i'll be ready to make various others 😊 I did anneal it and it turned black ( modern 1989 quarter) so at the end just used very fine wire wool to lightly clean and hey - antiqued look.

After all this time, I find out I can work a quarter without annealing! Wow! Never tried that because everyone I’ve watched on KZfaq over the years makes a big deal about the importance of it! Once again, you’re a renaissance man! Lol! Thanks for a relatively short but excellent vid! Hope you’re doing well!

Really enjoy your videos . I have learned a lot watching you and am now making a few clad rings myself. My tooling is not Jason works mostly because although I'm sure his products are good they're just to high priced for most beginners. I use the Chinese ring stretcher and it actually does alright . You do really nice work and I appreciate all the instruction and inspiration. Oh and your title....Change you can wear is genius. Have a good one and thanks again.

Great video. Can this method be used for larger coins? What are the drawbacks to using only the ring stretcher rather than a press?

Always enjoy your videos! 👍 Any chance you might do a deep dive video on making rings out of Canadian coins? Newer coins are all zero silver, so I’d be keen to see how you anneal and work them. Happy to send you some coins to play with 😜

@@CoinRingsfromTheMint the steel ones are horrible. Some of the older ones are nickel (ie/ the older dollar has been nickel since the 60s). I don’t have access to much in the way of US coins, so just trying to play around with what I can find. I have lots of every denimination since the late 1960s…. Soooooooo, not much silver. 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Great video!! ❤ would it work equally well to measure the center of the coin and mark that then drill it out like you mentioned in the video? I don't have the hole puncher at the moment so figures I'd ask!
@CoinRingsfromTheMint
@CoinRingsfromTheMint 6 ай бұрын
It definitely works! The key is to start with a small hole and work up to a larger size. And you can always file it a bit if it is uneven

Would that ring reducer die work with other ring stretchers? I don't have the pepe tools stretcher, but have a other good one. Not sure which brand. I believe it's British.
@CoinRingsfromTheMint
@CoinRingsfromTheMint 6 ай бұрын
Yes they do! The worst case scenario would be to just remove the center pin on your stretcher if it doesn’t fit. I know I did that with one of my other stretchers.

Hey there, I'm enjoying watching your videos. I'm hoping for some advice on equipment. Will a 1 and 20 tun press work the same? I think I can get them both at Harbor Freight, but is seems like I will get a bigger bang if I get the 20. I'm having trouble understanding the difference between when and why to use the 17 degree and 25 degree forms. And why and how to use the Swedish wrap. I already have a punch that I got before watching your videos 😟. Is it possible to get a list of the other tools I'll need to create quality rings? Many Thanks, 😊

I just saw the Coin Ring Reducing Die on Pepetools that I can use with my Pepetools ring stretcher and reducer. It seems like that should help reduce the equipment I will need.

The 20 ton press should work fine. I would highly recommend watching my tool list video I did a few years ago and also the video, how to make a perfect coin ring every time. It lays out in great detail how and when to use all of it. If you follow that formula on there, you’ll be good to go.

Hey Skyler, great videos by the waqy... I know you're way past this point, but I have had some problems with my bands getting a wave in them. They aren't slanted, they have a wave in the reed side of the ring. I think this video explains it, but I wondered what your thoughts were... I think it is due to the fact that #1 I anneal them, and #2 because I first stretch them with the reed side down. If I stop doing that on my silver quarters, will that help me correct this problem? Thanks and keep making these awesome videos!!! mark
@CoinRingsfromTheMint
@CoinRingsfromTheMint Ай бұрын
That might help avoid some of the waviness but the main issue is the silver quarters are pre disposed to becoming wavy. It’s because of how thick Washington’s head is compared to the rest of the coin. His head doesn’t stretch at the same rate and creates a wave.
