He has the spirit of the true privateer. He's building a high performance car using the minimum of tools. His science and engineering is spot on. I'm not sure why sponsors aren't air dropping tools and parts on his doorstep. His videos should be sponsored by Lincoln electric, Dewalt tools, metal supermarkets, Michelin tires etc...

I am member of a Formula Student Team and part of the suspension department, and I really enjoy all of your suspension videos, because they are really detailed and almost everything about your suspension matches about what we are running in our Formula Student racecar. I use your videos to better understand the way suspensions are designed. Reading the book is so difficult and usually I have to read one part several times to understand it. We are actually running a pull rod Suspension with longitudinally mounted coilover dampers, but we are changing to a push rod wank-heave system for fully adjustable anti roll settings next season. thanks for your inspiration and motivation and greetings from Germany! Very tricky to get right. Few years ago I was hillclimbing a standard-ish road spec car, but it wasn't a conventional suspension setup (Rover Hydragas). Changed the entire thing to coilover suspension, made wishbones and rosejointed as much as I could. Left the front geometry fully adjustable and it was a complete pain in the ass. Great job you're doing there

Love the whole series. I was surprised though when the heim joints on the rear suspension were oriented in a manner that you convincingly argued against for the front suspension. The joints on the spindle made sense because of reusing the holes but the orientation of the joints on the frame were new and went against your orientation argument for the front joints.

Awesome stuff! My question is with the push-rod - based, suspension in the rear (actually front and rear) have you considered adding a third coilover to dial out toe-out during braking? Formula cars have been using this technique for decades. Seems as if this could not only help maintain the amount of on-throttle track-out toe-in you're aiming for and help provide consistent aero-loading in all situations.

Great job, very entertaining, can you explain what stops the rear links tying themselves in knots with the braking force. Thanks David
@danielmercier24
@danielmercier24 5 ай бұрын
Correction: under acceleration the propulsive force is applied at the axle height on the knuckle.. You tilted the steering axis to help pointing it toward the contact patch (which is valid to minimize the braking force leverage), but doing so it increased the leverage of the propulsive force (which was allready increased by the wheel spacer). This will tend to toe in under power (by compliances).

Are there any possibilities of the joint going into bind, or contact the sides of your brackets, since you used no high missalignment spacers with the rod ends? And fix that center welded driveshaft. It's going to end badly. (Edit). A sheet of aluminum trans tunnel is not in the same league as a production car steel tunnel which has stampings to increase strength and usually supports and/or bracketry. I've seen the aftermath of a driveshaft that letgo while towing a car on a dolly and it completely ripped through the tunnel and basically vaporized the whole console. This was in a 450 sl which is not thin metal at all. Please send that driveshaft to be balanced. They will tell you they won't do it welded in the middle then make it correctly for you.
