I work at a manual transmission shop , was told you shouldn’t add pressure to the shifter , the shifter touching the bench seats adds pressure , doesn’t seem like anything to you , but trust me over time it damages the tranny , had so many people go like “that’s why” when I told them about it . Just something I wanted you to know

U should have used a number 8

You could have bolted a plate to the shift mount and bolted the shifter to that. It would have pushed the shifter forward giving the needed clearance. The new shifter looks great, just would have been cheaper and " custom".

Here in Texas if you go from column shift to floor you have to change out the column or put a block off on the column in order to pass inspection

It strikes me that a quick and easy, and free, resolution to the shifter not fitting the bench seat would have been to wrap a couple of ratchet straps round the base of the bench in the middle and tightening them down, therefore squashing the seat cushion down and reducing the length of the seat base in the area that the shifter operates in. It's not ideal, and it wouldn't work long-term without wrecking the bench seat base but it should work as a temporary solution so you can drive the truck while you're getting the buckets ready to fit...

I am gonna use a 3 ball for my gear lever in my old Plymouth. 3 speed 904 Torqueflite. Have a pool ball shift for each gears. 4,5, 6. New Mopars at 8 ball and Ford Schwinn 10 speed transmissions get a ten ball 🤣

Hurst changed their thread pitch to 3/8"-16 from 3/8"-24 sometime in the 80's. Buying the new shifter was a good idea. You'll still have the other shifter. You may find the new shifter is in a better position.

hi craig, nice job on the shifter. in my 61 f-100 i have a 2004 f-150 seat. its like the bucket seat and the bench seat all in one. its sitting low it looks and feels comfortable. i think i finally decided which engine im going to use in mine. its the ford 363. i really dont want the computer stuff so im going naturally aspirated.

Just a thought, but instead of using bucket seats, why not use a bench seat with the center folding section from a newer f-150?

I made a dodge pistol grip shift knob by buying the plastic handles then shaping a piece of aluminum

I did the same thing with an 8 ball. I did it in a lathe, excessive I know but smoke em if ya got em .

How do you make sure the "9" lines up perfectly once tightened down? I'm 3D printing a shift knob and using a nut for the threads but I want to make sure the design is oriented right once tightened down

Me taking metal machining in highschool it makes me cringe watching you tap that hole and not ever turn it backwards breaking off your chips. As your tapping the hole spinning clockwise every couple turns you should spin about half a turn counterclockwise and you’ll hear a bunch of cracking. That’s all the chips breaking off and it makes your hole two slot better because wits not so crowded
