I love that period furniture. I have a profound respect for this man’s workmanship . Beautiful !

When my dad was still teaching woodshop, (and was still sharp mentally) I saw him glue up a 6' diameter semi circle in a similar profile. He glued the whole thing up and rigged up some jig on the shaper, lined up the power feed and slammed it through. It was on a Saturday and a few students were still in the shop working on their projects when he ran it through the shaper. He picked up that whole arc and it just passed all the way through that feeder and came out perfect on the other end. I was too young to appreciate the thought that went into it, but I remember one of his students saying, "That's the coolest thing I've ever seen." My dad didn't admit it then in front of the students, but he later told me that he was shocked that it even worked.

Every time I push my luck making something beyond my skill level it takes me 4 times as long as I originally thought. Nice job, Thanks.

they turned out really well. i only ever did goose neck once when i was training and that was on a spindle moulder with the correct cutter. i admire your patience to do this with a router, but this is what makes a craftsman. knowing how to reach your goal using what you have at hand. well done matt. p.s. i no longer have access to a spindle moulder as my shop is to small for one. but i sure do miss it.

I doubt if I ever get this elaborate with woodwooking, but I sure enjoy watching you work. I did learn a tip on keeping the glue from oozing out the front, by the making of a glue well. Thanks!

Love the camera angles on this video, as well as the woodwork :) I was doing some chisel work today and it is so nice being able to just shave ribbons off the wood and I know they are not nearly as sharp as yours.

Great video Matt and the molding and the entire project turned out fantastic. I was watching another channel a couple of months ago and a gentleman suggested using wood rated cyanoacrylate in conjunction with wood glue for doing molding returns when they are large or difficult to clamp up. His suggestion was to apply wood glue on each miter but leave 2-3 small circular areas bare of wood glue on each side and apply cyanoacrylate in those circular areas and hold the molding in place for 30-60 seconds while the cyanoacrylate cured. He only suggested the tip but did not demonstrate it. I think I would want to try this a few times on some scrap before I committed to using it on something of such importance as your gooseneck molding. The tip sounding interesting so I thought I would pass it along but I have not tried it myself yet. Congrats on such a beautiful piece. Ron

I think I can safely say that is the tallest one I have ever seen. I was about to say you need to learn how to be ambidextrous during those weak side cuts. But you did during the next clip :) Who cares about the time it took to do that. You have total bragging rights. Big props.

You are thought of as an awesome, albeit underestimated woodworker in today's society. In previous generations, you would have been revered as a master. I am amazed at your talent and eager to watch as your talent grows and matures as time goes by. You say the first one with positive template was a mistake, but your master craftsman sub-conscience made you do it for practice since the negative ones needed to be perfect. Those are a beautiful addition to the piece and compliment its design. When your done and put it in the house, I would put those red ropes on posts around it to keep people away from touching it.

Hey Matt long time viewer, when you where using the router guide the height of the router didn’t change now did the pieces of wood outside. How where you able to get the bit so much lower? This is beautiful I’m about to embark on this task to build this seriously insanely ornate big king size bed out of some hardwood lol. Wish me luck! I need to know cause I have to make this stuff for it
