Lovely videos! Did you stitch the wire onto the brim edge by hand or with a machine? If you attached it with a machine, we'd love to see a video showing how.
@SHMillinery3 жыл бұрын
Hi There, yes it was stitched by machine. I will definitely add a video for that, many thanks for the suggestion

Thank you for sharing do you buy flat felt to do this or is it presented

I buy felt hoods, flat felt is not great for shaping large hats

Can you please tell me how to make a hat block. I’ve never made a hat and it will be on a very small scale. I’m making hats for antique dolls and I can’t find any blocks that are small enough. Thank you
@SHMillinery3 жыл бұрын
Hi, It is very difficult to make a block, and unless you commission a wooden one to size, it is probably not worth the time and money. Instead I would suggest you look in cupboards or go to charity/thrift shops to look for something you could use as a block. I use a lot of household items to make hats, including bowls, plates and others. This video shows me using household items kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nMCgfpWC27CWZ4U.html

Hi... Did you need to use stiffener in the crown to keep its shape.
@SHMillinery3 жыл бұрын
Hi Judith, I didn't with the blue felt, as I thought it would be stiff enough. If they don't do well I re wet and then stiffen. Felts can be so different

How do you make the hat from flat felt into a hood shape?
@SHMillinery5 ай бұрын
You cant, it has to be cut and sewn the same as any flat fabric

I have a lovely felt hat I cannot wear because it irritates my skin. I want to line it, but am not sure how to do so without the seam showing. Do you have any tips?
@SHMillinery2 жыл бұрын
hi, without knowing what style of hat it is hard to help. Most hats have a sweatband inside and you could sew the lining to that?
@BookhoardingCat2 жыл бұрын
@@SHMillinery ahh, that makes sense. This one is felt, and a witch's hat. But there is no band or lining inside. I have considered fabric glue, and perhaps a couple tiny stitches concealed with a hat pin of some sort, but I am just not sure what to do. Thank you for the reply, though. I really appreciate it

Could you do a video o how you cut out the embellishments that you added to end of video and explain the technique and machine cutter you use....thank you for showing us how to make blocking springs....things are a bit wonky here with trying to buy products so I keep thinking what dies my husband have in basement that I can use for a block headband what piping I can use to circle around to hold it tight....even tho I absolutely adore the wood forms I'm just not able to find anything like that here in usa that not already sold out, what's your opinion on cloth blocking heads?.... thank you for doing these videos....mikelle newyork strong mom....😷✌🦋.🕵️♀️🧵
@SHMillinery3 жыл бұрын
I use a brother cut n scan for the embellishments. Blocks can be found on ebay, but I am thinking of doing a short video with worldwide suppliers on it :)
@greeneyedsheshe3 жыл бұрын
Check Ebay for wood hat blocks. I just bought on via Ebay auction two weeks ago.
