The pure gray flame is the coolest flame color. You just need to take a couple mins to purify it. You can see it a little on the bottom and sides in your video. Swirl with some brine in the separatory funnel to remove excess alcohol and then add flakes of anhydrous CaCl2 to dry it in a flask. Decant it off the CaCl2, it shouldn't have the sodium/water/alcohol impurities and burn pure gray.

Hm, poppers... The synthesis always brings many views, but also causes a bad headache... 🤯 The i-propOH didn't run out of the pipette because of its density (that's lower than the one of water, so it should stay inside even better), but because of the low adherence forces on plastic surfaces - it wouldn't have happened using glassware. You need to purify the product if you want to see the white flame. Otherwise the yellow sodium flame is simply too dominant, if you don't wash all traces of salt out...

I thought of distilling the nitrite but i had such a small amount that it was not worth it. In the future i may make more of it and purify it, but as of now i don’t want to work with it anymore. Also, thank you very much for your corrections and suggestions, they really help me out :)

@@Amateur.Chemistry Maybe washing it in the sep funnel is already effective enough to get rid off most of the sodium salt.

My guess is 3 distinctions under cold temp vacuum 😅 not like I would really know yet... yet
